  • Map Name: Cave-O (Level 1)
    Map Game: Ruby
Comments: Sort of an experiment. The cave's entrance is at the end of a lake. It leads up to the top of a cliff. The spotlight on the top ladder indicates that it leads up to a brighter level that, in turn, leads to open air.
This is the only map that stood out to me, so I had to rate it. :P

Comments: Personally, I love the Ruby cave tiles, but not too much other than that, but that has nothing to do with your map, so bleh. The addition of the spotlight is really cool, it gives the cave a really nice touch, great idea! Not sure if the sand around the edges of the mountains down on the waterline was intentional, but it just looks off to me for some reason. The form of the map makes it feel as you are climbing up in the cave as you get to the ladder, which gives it a good feel. The entire shape and feel of the map gives it a windy-climbing feel to it, so kudos for that.

Suggestions: I'm not sure, but it kind of feels too empty, I mean, look at a cave in real life, is it going to have a big open area for you to walk in? No. It is going to have a small path for you to travel on, but that is just my opinion I guess.

    Rating: 8/10, great job!

That's not really true... I went spelunking last year and half of the caves had large rooms here and there, and some had large paths all the way through.

The thing about those caves is that they had a lot of human activity. They go in there and clean out boulders and the such for you to go around in. I've been spelunking myself. Great time.

  • I love that word. Spelunking....

About the cave, if the player's going through, it's likely that the cave has some level of human activity, leading to wider caverns.

So they dug into the ceiling until it was over 100ft high? I don't think so. These caves have been preserved as much as possible afaik. They even cut off part of the caves due to human damage.

  • Thanks for your comments, guys! I wasn't expecting it. xD Yes, there are border problems. It didn't really occur to me. I expanded the edges to take care of it. Does the entrance looks funny because the glow is yellow/brown instead of blue? I touched it up. The sand around the bottom of the cliffs is gone.

It is a rather 'easy' level, but there is a second level above it that I can fiddle with to thoroughly exhaust the player. I also added a boulder puzzle to the 'stairs down' area.

As for the size of the space...I guess you're right, it's pretty roomy. I've never been in a cave myself but, from what I've read of them, they tend to form vertically when water seeps through and dissolves the limestone. That's why the path goes up, and the way caves are mapped, it looks like the ceiling is very high all throughout the cave. That might not be so obvious when you play through it, though.

Wow, this is quite possibly one of the best maps I've seen here! The concept is awesome and the mapping looks pretty official. I really like the detail put into it and the boulder puzzle is a nice touch too! I saw 2 tile errors on near the top of the map, though. Other than that, it's flawless. Keep up the excellent work!

Yes, I see them too. There's two spots there the corner tile is repeated when it should just be a wall.

    Hmm...
I don't like it. The placement of things really isn't that good. And some of the stuffs in it are mucked up especially the Poké Center.

Well a few things bug me with this map. Why are the doors of some houses randomly different? And what bugs me the most is why is there aload of bikes in the middle of the map. I understand a couple if there is a bike shop but 18 is a bit too many xD

I actually really like the look of this a lot. It gives the feel of being in the middle of a dense forest, and finding this clearing with a small pond. It's really cool.

Unfortunately the grass doesn't seem to look very good when right next to a flower or tall grass. You can see a line where it suddenly changes color and everything. I'll still give you an 9/10 though.

    Rating: 5/10.

Reason: The pallettes could be toned down a little bit. The map is too square, the Gym too big width ways. Visible Tile Errors in the trees (Look far Left and Far Right Bottom Corners!) The mountain and pond aren't natural looking and are too square. In gact, the whol map is too square. You have potential talent, but it isn't there yet. The building in the Top Right corner has Tile Errors (check the windows...)
