IBO - more like IBS. It's awful.

Most of the seasonals seem to be magical girls. I'm okay with this.
I have never seen a full gundam season from the golden age, so I dunno maybe its why I like it. Speaking of magical girls and mechs, I am also 3 episodes into Macross Delta ALSO never having seen any previous incarnation, and I have no odea what the fuck is going on.

  • I wouldn't say that me being fond of other Gundam series has anything to do with why I dislike IBO.

Macross was always the wacky sibling. Most of it is great fun.

Some.......interesting series this season. Spent the last few hours watching a load of first episodes.

  • I"d still rate IBO high having seen many of the gundams.
Zeta and 08th ms team are my top 2 though.
For more recent gundam series definitely check out Origins OVA/Movies and thunderbolt.

Anyone else seen episode one of drifters yet?
MC is badass af. Loving the animation and the characters so far. I think there was some censoring done? but it looked pretty clean.

  • Drifters was okay, but I really dislike those random comical chibi moments that even Hellsing had.

Anyone seen AOTS yet? Got me interested in the manga as well, it's so batshit, best sports series in the last few years haha.

  • Better op coming through.

    BORN TO MAKE HISTORY

Hellsing without the silly comedy bits would way too edgy4me, I imagine Drifters will be the same. Okay first ep, not really sure what to think yet. It's not exactly like it's an uncommon setting. Can anything beat Nobunagun when it comes to these sort of shows? well, maybe that one good Samurai series where they're all cute girls.

Nobody wants to talk Dragon Ball Super, but I really want to hype about it.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good, lighthearted anime, preferably with an all girl cast OR no romance/overly perverted male characters? I just finished YuruYuri and my heart is like totally shattered cause it was exactly the kind of anime I love but now it's over for good. *cries*

  • An all female cast? Did you finish Strike Witches already? Isn't there a new cast of Witches? What about Girls Und Panzer or Arpeggio of Blue Steel was decent as well. I don't really have lighthearted on the list of common themes, but it is what it is I guess.

I finished watching Attack on Titan a few weeks ago. I was pretty disappointed. I heard lots of great things about it but it wound up, to me, being such a drone fest. A lot of really great animes can do in 12 or even 6 episodes that Attack on Titan didn't complete in 22. A lot of people are quick to criticize animes such as Dragon Ball Z for their extremely and unnecessary long fight sequences, but Attack on Titan did a whole lot of standing around and not explaining anything. Am I alone on this? I wanted to like it, because the game tie in looked decent enough, so I started watching the Anime, but after finishing it I felt like Clint Eastwood after reading the horoscope.

No, actually. That's a lot of why I couldn't get into the anime and opted for the manga instead. There was a lot of padding despite the books having enough material and dialogue to easily span the amount of time the series' 2 arcs spanned. And the padding wasn't really that substantial.

...Well...not really. I do hope they make better use of the time with the second season, anyway.

Thank goodness. I was worried for a bit there. I tried talking to a friend about it and he was all like "Yeah. that sounds like a really long episode of Seinfeld" I mean, I couldn't find fault in his statement there. My friend being, well, me. I did tell my brother about it though who had originally suggested it to me, and he conceded that yes, it had bits and pieces interspersed throughout, but it took a long time to get anywhere.

I think my favorite thing about romance in anime is that if a boy has a crush on a boy, or a girl has a crush on a girl (in all the animes that I've watched, anyways) it's not some big deal where the character with the crush then has to question their entire sexuality, come out to everybody, struggle with accepting the fact that they have a crush on someone of the same gender - etc. It's just a crush, like it would be for a boy and a girl. I just wish more movies/tv shows/books would adopt that approach. It makes the story so much easier to fall into, IMO. Plus it helps encourage normalizing all sexualities and helping people understand that it's literally no different than a boy and a girl.

Sorry, just something I've been thinking about

Did you watch the OVAs for it yet?

    As for recommendations:

    Yuyushiki maybe?

Also Non Non Biyori and its second season, Repeat.

Azumangah Daioh as well, though that's more Nichijou than YRYR.

Lucky Star, Love Live!, Little Witch Academia, and K-On! are also series extremely lacking in male characters (I think each has maybe 5 male characters and I think they're pretty much all background characters) if you haven't seen those yet.

Oh and then there's the Mangirl! short, which is, in fact, not actually about a man who is a girl or a girl who is a man, but about girls trying to run a manga magazine.

And here's a list of stuff that sort of fits:
Pan de Peace (totally fits, but the animation might bug people as there are spots where you can tell it was done on the cheap)
    Ai Mai Mii (slapstick comedy)
Wakaba Girl (might have a bit of drama in it)
Sakura Trick (all-girl, but has intense romantic overtones for someone not expecting them)
Teekyu (slapstick comedy with intentional frenetic pacing rapid-fire pacing, not purely an all-girl cast)
Takamiya Nasuno Desu!: Teekyuu Spin-off (Teekyu spin-off)
Usakame (spin-off of Teekyu with a more normal pace)
    Aiura

Love Live! and Little Witch Academia both have an actual end goal with the plot so it may not fit what you're looking for, while the others I've mentioned just laze their way through time.

Also, though I haven't seen it all the way through yet because I kinda just got too busy to keep up, Flying Witch was comfy as hell up to the point I was at in it.

I'm still trying to search for more in this comfy genre, myself, and I know there are shows out there that fit which I just simply haven't had the time to get to (for instance, I'm pretty sure A-Channel also meets your criteria, but I haven't watched it yet so I can't confirm or deny).

  • So maybe I'm too pessimistic/cynical (or too much of an insane idealist), but all IBO has done is piss me off with its stuff. Especially in the last handful of episodes (I'm watching episode 16 right now).

Spoiler: Gundam IBO Season 1 Spoilers
YOU MORONS, ARMED UPRISINGS LIKE YOURS IN POLICE STATES ARE DOOMED TO FAIL. Also damn near everyone of the antagonists is portrayed as a heaping pile of shit.

EDIT: It may also be because I can see every goddamn "twist" coming for miles and I genuinely do not enjoy that if it's leading to an outcome that is pissing me off.
