  • About time we see the VC of Pok?mon Gold and Silver. I was wondering when will it get released after Red, Blue and Yellow came out.

I'm actually so happy and literally can't wait to play these. My favourite childhood games! I was just getting all nostalgic over them the other day. :)

RBY on VC didn't matter much to me but this is SO exciting!

  • Been waiting for this for ages, very excited for it. My cartridges stopped saving properly a while ago so excited to be able to relive my childhood on my 3DS <3

Shame it isn't Crystal too, but sure, I'll at least buy Gold when these release. Can't wait to hear that glorious music again.

  • Insta-buy for me. Here's hoping for a Crystal release, though. That'd be the icing on the cake.

  • As someone who regrets selling his copy of SoulSilver a few years ago and doesn't want to pay the extortionate price to get it back, this is perfect. I genuinely can't wait to download a copy of Gold.

I assume they're avoiding Crystal for now because if they released it with G&S, everyone would buy Crystal instead of the original two.

  • It was definitely expected.

The main thing that irks me though is that it's only Gold & Silver getting the VC release and not Crystal. Maybe Game Freak thought Crystal was redundant considering some elements of it were adapted into HG/SS.

  • Is it bad that I'm as excited for this as I am for Ultra Sun and Moon??? I haven't been able to play Gen 2 for years ever since my battery run dry on Crystal, speaking of Crystal, it's a shame it isn't getting a release.

  • So looking forward to replaying these! While it's a shame that it doesn't look like Crystal will be released on the eShop, I'll still pick up Silver for sure. 8)

I don't really want to use my 3ds blocks for Gold and Silver so I'll probably hold off and wait for Crystal. And if it doesn't release oh well.

  • Really excited for this rerelease of Pok?mon Gold and Silver; it's nice to see these games get a new lease on life, even though they're outclassed by Pok?mon Crystal Version and utterly outclassed by Pok?mon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions..

I hope that Pok?mon Crystal Version gets announced for a re-release at some point soon; the only things I can see preventing/hindering/delaying the release are the extra features, the cell-phone feature/facility thing, and possibly more tinkering being needed due to Crystal's release for Game Boy Color rather than Game Boy. I mean, Crystal/Kris has been shafted enough! XD ;_; Honestly, if it's just because of the extra features, just release all 3 of the Generation 2 games at the same time - most people will likely only get 1 version anyway; no need to make them wait. At the very least, I like how the Gold/Silver re-release acts as a precedent for a potential Pok?mon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald re-release (even though we just got Hoenn-based remakes ~2-3 years ago.. XD)

Crystal will probably be my choice if the rerelease comes to fruition, simply due to being enhanced (and it sounds pretty!). Otherwise, Gold is my choice out of the Gold/Silver pair, although I might go with Silver for the opposite paired version's experience since I already have HeartGold.

I am really hoping that the complete soundtrack for Pok?mon Gold, Silver, and Crystal can get a proper release; the GB Sounds recreations, although nice I imagine, just don't cut it..

As someone who regrets selling his copy of SoulSilver a few years ago and doesn't want to pay the extortionate price to get it back, this is perfect. I genuinely can't wait to download a copy of Gold.

I assume they're avoiding Crystal for now because if they released it with G&S, everyone would buy Crystal instead of the original two.

*gasps* Ouch.. :x. This contrasts my scenario; I haven't even opened HeartGold yet.. Hopefully, I can get a Nintendo DS and/or Nintendo 3DS at some point.. >_>

Forgive me because I started with Silver and haven't played Crystal, but isn't Crystal essentially the same thing as GS except with Eusine and better graphics? I'd argue there was probably more of a difference between Yellow and Red and Blue if that's the case.

From my memory, Crystal has Johto's Battle Tower (first incarnation ever), an expanded Ruins of Alph from what I heard, the option for Kris (being the first female playable character), and some extra music (notably, the battle theme for the Crown Beasts/Legendary Beasts (or Legendary Dogs/Cats/Gerbils). The opening video of Crystal also features different scenes and a different musical introductory portion into the Generation 2 remix of the "Pok?mon Main Theme". I think some Pok?mon sprites were changed, too.

I don't really want to use my 3ds blocks for Gold and Silver so I'll probably hold off and wait for Crystal. And if it doesn't release oh well.

Can the RBGY re-releases be saved on an SD memory card? I'd hope that the GSC rereleases would be the same..

I wonder if they, much like gen 1, left the glitches untouched. That could be a good source for more Celebis. Unless, of course, they not only decide to add Crystal as well, but also include that event that made it available.

  • As someone who played the cartridge version of Pokemon Silver, seeing as Pokemon Gold and Silver are getting eShop releases I am really happy. Course now I need to figure out which Pokemon I will be using for my team and the theme of the nicknames. I also have to make sure I follow my two rules for nicknames.

I've been wanting a Generation II VC re-release almost from the time that the re-release of R/G/B/Y was announced.

Kind of sad, though that Crystal isn't included in the re-release list, though from what the Daily article about Crystal says, it could be entirely plausible that a certain Japan-only feature needs considerable re-work for a re-release, or otherwise Crystal would have to be shipped to Japan in an 'incomplete' form (though I believe it would end up being similar to the versions the rest of the world got.)

Plus, given how ridiculously expensive used copies of HeartGold/SoulSilver are these days, I can imagine that an eShop release of the original Game Boy Color Johto games will make playing that region more accessible to players.

Another advantage to G/S being re-released for the 3DS should be quite obvious: No more save battery running out and wiping out your saved progress as a result (I know Generation I is susceptible to this issue as well, but it's especially bad on Gold/Silver due to the save battery also running the real-time clock.)

Another possible reason for Crystal's omission, I think, is because the gameplay of that version, despite the added features and different wild Pok?mon encounter lists and the centering around Suicune, is not all that much different to that of Gold/Silver, whereas Yellow had much more significant changes to its gameplay that greatly affected the story from the start vs. Red/Green/Blue (including being forced to take Pikachu as your starter, and most of the Gym Leaders having completely different teams and higher levels.)

My Pok?mon fandom life will essentially be complete once Gold and Silver come out to the eShop, considering that I traded in my Game Boy Game Pak copies of the Generation I and II games that I had in January 2006 (and thus, never got to witness for myself the game cartridges losing their ability to save). :p

    Same!

I love G/S/C. With the battery problems of the old cartridges, am glad to see a way where I can play those games again, not on an emulator, and where I can be sure that I will have the day and night times)

I literally can't wait and was sad to see that we'll only get it at the end of summer D:

I think this is the case, too. Or at least, I hope it is, and not that the Goldenrod PCC causes complications for an international release... So while it's disappointing that we don't get Crystal right away, I hope we'll see it eventually.

Either way, I'm very excited for this. It's definitely my favorite news from today!
