Thanks everyone for the advice. I am now doing my fanfic solo... It will be better that way. I now realize that group writing would be hard to do, so thanks you guys. I hope you will still be interested in my fanfic...

As writers, do you proofread after or during your writing?
I edit just a couple of hours before I post the chapter. So, my answer is after.

Can you write something sad? On that note, is it possible to write something that would make anyone cry (even the supposedly tough ones)? How would you go about doing it, do you have any examples of fics that have made you cry?
I've never really tried writing anything sad, though I doubt I could, even if I wanted to. No fic as ever made me cry before (I think), but I sometimes will get a little teary eyed, especially if it's the story's last chapter.

If you were to give a theme song to your story(ies), what theme song(s) would you use? Do you usually associate songs to certain parts of the story itself (besides a possible theme song)?
I have two 'theme songs' for the entire story, both Japanese: Life Goes On (by Mika Arisaka) and Mosaic Kakera (by SunSet Swish).

A bit of both. I go back and read what I've written after every couple of pages, then after the chapter's done I'll proofread the entire thing.

No. My attorneys, the IRS, and my parole officer prohibit me from doing so. Besides, reading doesn't make me cry. Sustaining painful injuries does.

A large piece of one of my later chapters revolves around the "At the Beginning" song from the Anastasia soundtrack. As for an overall theme song? I really can't say for sure...

During, because I don't like to waste time. (And yes, I wrote 4 new chapters which I was going to release... then I scrapped them... then I moped)

Can you write something sad? On that note, is it possible to write something that would make anyone cry (even the supposedly tough ones)? How would you go about doing it, do you have any examples of fics that have made you cry?

Just when Neo leaves Sarina 2 years ago is the sad part. Other than that, it's nothing. Besides, the law told me not to make anyone cry, because people can die from sadness... I heard. Meh, I'll look it up.

If you were to give a theme song to your story(ies), what theme song(s) would you use? Do you usually associate songs to certain parts of the story itself (besides a possible theme song)?

I'd do the following themes for these characters (all from HGSS)-

    Guardians:
Neo - VS. Kanto Gym Leader/Red
    Astinus - VS. Frontier Brain
    Erif - VS. Champion
Sarina - VS. Johto Gym Leader/E4
    Haruko - VS. Suicune
    Exis - VS. Raikou
    Arlan - VS. Entei

    The rest are unreleased characters-
    Spoiler:

Thanks for Dagzar for the font and so on as I'm too lazy to copy and paste it. :P

During. It sucks, but I can't help it.
It sucks? If you'll pardon my language, Au contraire!

I think the ability to proofread while writing something is a very valuable skill, especially when you're writing an English paper the morning it's due (which, since I'm on the forums right now, I might end up having to do tomorrow morning).

Those are a lot of questions.

I can write sad stuff, but it doesn't come naturally for me. Even when I'm writing something sad, there will almost invariably be some sort of tongue-in-cheek humor at some point because that's just how I write.

I don't think there's really any specific way to make someone cry. Different people react differently to different situations. Some people handle fictional death well, but start crying when something touchingly happy happens.

I personally haven't read any fics that made me cry, but I don't cry easily. I've only cried during a few films (Das Leben der Anderen comes to mind), much less while reading stories.

Lol, that's what I am notorious for XD I edit while I write, because I don't bother rereading afterwards. XD

Doing this style though I have ended up with a couple of awkward sentences.

Same here. It's almost impossible to try and suppress that habit, but at least now I reread my chapters(that I'll get around to soon) before posting them.XD

Now this is interesting. Do you guys find that it totally interrupts your creative flow to go back and correct a mistake, or does it not affect how fast or well you can write?

Also, I now am running Windows 7 flawlessly on my netbook. Who'da thunk?

    It should be bolded.

Occasionally when I'm on a roll and ideas are flowing out like mad, yes. But for the most part, I don't think it disturbs me that much because I work on ideas at the same time.

    Also,
What do you as a veteran of the FFL(as in active in Fanfiction, has a lot of posts in the FFL, is generally regarded to be a veteran by the rest of the FFL community) think is the most popular genre that keeps popping up in the Fanfiction area no matter how well or badly it's written?

I suppose I should answer my own question, neh? When I'm writing and I have to correct a mistake, I come to a complete standstill. Sometimes I stop writing for the day, depending on how big of a correction I make. I've even thrown out the whole chapter on occasion.

By far, the most common thing that pops up here are OT fics. Second is probably shipping...after that I don't know. There's an amalgamation of a lot of different genres.

I still go through a regular flow, whilst editing on the spot; so it's not too bad. XD

Not too terribly much, Then again, I usually never did write more than 2-3 pages per sitting, so I never really developed a creative flow in the first place :P

To answer my question, I've been seeing a lot of sci-fi lately. And OT fics of course.

My mistakes disrupt the flow, so I have to actually go back and correct a mistake to have the stories flow more. :P

Definitely OT fics. Also, I've been seeing PMD fics here lately.

Not really a veteran of the FFL, but I noticed a lot of OT fics laying in this place. The genre's extremely tired, and I think it should be laid to rest, to be honest. I'm even wary of the good OT fics because it's so overdone.

Honestly, I don't mind an OT fic as long as it not a badge hunting one. I came from FF.net in which they never reviewed OT fan fictions no matter how good it is. They are so wrapped up in shipping, that it is almost sickening. If it is good enough with a solid storyline other than just getting badges or training pokemon to just battle, I'm fine.

Anyway, to answer the question, I think it has been a lot of OT stories but Sci-fi has been making a push however. I'm truly liking the different views. I wouldn't consider myself a veteran XD.

EDIT: Let me be clear on something. What I consider an OT is a having an original character as the main character who happens to train pokemon. That doesn't mean they have to be "pokemon trainers" out to go get badges, become champion, etc. I've seen tons of good original trainer fan fiction that has nothing to do with badge collecting (same for coordinators and ribbon collecting). Just wanted to make that clear.

Sorry, but I am sick of people saying, "NO BADGE COLLECTING IN OT FICS!" What, is badge collecting that bad? I think badge collecting is part of the journey experience. Heck, I'm okay with a fic just badge collecting because those stories can bring out character development a million times better than an epic story filled with prophecies and such.

Agreeing with Bay. I've seen plenty of Trainer Quest stories done wonderfully well (no, not including my own, that would just be ego-stroking), and to be honest people who are perfectly fine with Trainer stories as long as the standard plot isn't being utilized are seriously limiting them to a lot of stories that are epic and prophecy-tastic in their own right.

Don't get me wrong. I was more so saying that people doesn't give the other fan fiction that doesn't have Badge Collection/Ribbon Collection a chance. :D I agree there are plenty of good badge collecting with a great plot. I was saying that people put that as a requirement when writing a OT fan fiction. In all honesty, I'm not against writing badge/ribbon collecting. But try to give people a chance that doesn't have it in there, just using the pokemon region as a basis.

I think I did not write it clearly enough in my last post however. There are people that write just about the badge collection, no plot what-so-ever between it. If badge collecting is your character's passion, I'm fine with it. Just have a back story behind your character, that is what I am trying to say.

Remember, I'm not against badge collecting. A friend of mine is writing a fan fiction with badge collecting, ribbon collecting, and ranger duties all in one fan fiction with three different characters. I love her story to death.
