I chose them as pets since I had just kept mice as pets for a long time, and was starting to get antsy for a new pet (my parents said I could only keep one type of small pet at a time), so I waited for them to eventually pass away naturally (I know this sounds mean, but I really did love them! I had just kept them as pets for years and decided it was time for a change, if you know what I mean). I then went to a sleepover at a friend's house who I had never been to before, and they had hermit crabs there (in horrible conditions, yes, but they were hermies nonetheless). ;) I then became very attached to them, and grew to love them. After my last, and oldest, mouse finally passed away (she live for around three years I think!) I got my hermies. :) And how I do love them...they can live up to around 30 years if kept in ideal conditions, so I will definitely have them for a LONGGGGG time, and I don't think I will ever want to get rid of them regardless! XD Just some of their antics are climbing upside down on the screen lid that covers their "crabitat", spilling all of their water and food dishes so I have to clean them up in the morning (they are mostly nocturnal, although they do still come out during the daytime. Nightime is their "party" time, and is usually the time these antics come in place!), making gopher "holes" in the thick substrate they have (six inches of Eco Earth, which is a special dirt like substrate for them!), and more...they really are fascinating, even if they are little buggers sometimes. ;)
