Well, I guess it's not that bad per se, it's just not as good as it used to be with a lot of the old regulars not being around anymore :P I guess it's a matter of nostalgia.
I was personally a bit surprised by Sun and Moon cuz I thought that Gen 6 had gone by too quickly but that just might be because there was no Pokemon Z and I had the idea in my head that we would all be ready to move on to Gen 7 once the third version came out. Gen 5 had third versions but no remakes so I guess there's a precedent that a generation can have just one of either a third version game or a remake since having both cases in one generation has been possible starting Gen 3. Temporally it makes sense - Gen 6 will have been 3 years old come the release of Sun and Moon so I don't have a case there. I guess the reason it feels so fast for me is because I've only played Gen 6 up to a couple months after OR/SS came out, so it feels like it's only been one and a half years since Gen 6 started. I don't know how I feel about Sun and Moon yet. I hope there'll be more than 70 Pokemon.
As for the election, my favourite by far is Sanders, but he just got trounced in South Carolina and my doubts are setting in and it's gloomy. A Trump presidency would be very interesting for the historian in me, so at least I'll get some entertainment value out of it should it happen.
