all is good my friend! :3 Zoey Winters is once again accepted!

    ~snippy snip~

always love the way you write up your chars :3 she and zoey can bond over their pink hair lol. Morgan Wilson is accepted!

also, after some thought i've decided to bring back miss plot point herself. this is alyssa, the playable npc. she is also a trainer, starting her journey alongside all of your characters. she's going to be playing a role in the overarching plot of the rp and i will occasionally posting as her, but she's not my character in the regular sense. all that being said, she will generally function as a rival for all of your chars. feel free to use her in posts and such unless she's involved w one of the missions in an area or another player is using her at the same time.

    RHLUBTW.png

    Name: Alyssa Hawkins
    Age: 18
    Gender: Female

Appearance: Standing at five-foot-ten, Alyssa is well above the average height of other young women. This paired with her long slender figure gives her the body type typical of a model. She may look delicate, but hours spent working out has provided her a deceptive strength that many wouldn't suspect. Her pale, unblemished skin gives her pearly white smile an extra glow that has entranced many of her peers. While she's a natural blonde, she recently decided to dye her shoulder-length hair black, but still leaving a streak of her original color behind in her hair.

As is common with someone who loves style, there is a wide assortment of clothing that makes up the young woman's wardrobe. It ranges from sporty to more chic, but her favorite outfit consists of light wash overalls, worn over a longsleeve white shirt, finished off with some hightop white sneakers. To her it expresses a recent modern twist on an old fashioned article of clothing, which she finds to be quite a statement.

Personality: Charismatic and kind, Alyssa seems to be without flaw to most people that meet her. Always able to strike up a conversation with even the most awkward of people, she's been a social butterfly since the day of her birth. And it's not as if she approaches interactions with any ulterior motives. She's just a kindhearted and compassionate individual, invariably considerate of others. Cool and collected, she's seemingly always calm and in control, and when conflicts arise she almost always plays the role of peacemaker. The young woman just has a calming presence about her that makes those around her feel at ease. On top of all this she's incredibly intelligent and athletic, making her seem nothing short of perfect. That all being said, as genuine as she seems to be most of the time, something about her whole demeanor feels slightly... forced.

Other: Alyssa didn't mention much about her past to Professor Roxanne, but it would be safe to assume that she's a native of the Hoenn Region.

  • Maxwell "Max" Klein
    16 / Male / From Rustboro City

Appearance: Max is on the shorter side for his age and sex, being about 5'6" and has a slim, but athletic build. His white skin generally sports a pale tan gained from spending a lot of time in the outdoors. His straight, platinum blonde hair is heavily styled and reaches mid way down his neck at the back with a long fringe partially obscuring the right half of his face. He has large brown eyes with notably long eyelashes.

For his attire, Max has a pretty specific style. He likes button up shirts with a larger-than-usual overlap and long but loose sleeves and prefers trousers or skinny jeans to cargoes or looser jeans. He will frequently don a long purple coat with only the top button done. He frequently is seen wearing gloves and always wears a dark cap. It is common to see him carrying around a magnifying glass.

Goals and Interests: Although he's only average in terms of intelligence, Max is an extremely curious individual with a broad catalogue of interests not limited to battling, contests, athletics, fashion, space, geology and, most of all, palaeontology. He is setting off on his journey with the intention of trying as many interesting things as possible, but a definite goal of his is to collect as many fossils/fossil Pokemon as he can.

    Strengths:

Knowledgeable: On account of his burning curiosity, Max has explored a great deal of different subjects hobbies and interests. This gives him quite an extensive base of knowledge to work from with at least rudimentary skills in most areas.

Determined: Once Max decides to do something, he does it. He will pursue a goal with single-minded determination until he has achieved it and will adamantly refuse to give up on something until it's completed. That being said, his goals tend to be short-term in nature such as "get that object" or "learn about that topic" as opposed to long-term.

Confident: One thing Max has never lacked in is confidence. He's charismatic and happy with who he is and isn't afraid to put himself out there. He's neither reserved nor easily embarrassed and as such finds it very easy to talk to people, even those who have greater authority or standing.

Athletic: Given his interests, you might not expect Max to be the athletic type. However he has spent a lot of time over the years out climbing rocks or trees or exploring caverns in pursuit of fossils, rocks or anything else that may have caught his interest. He enjoys physical activity and has never been one to shy away from exercise.

Positive: Max is upbeat, friendly, outgoing and generally prefers not to look at the negative side of things for too long. He makes it his mission to find the positives in even the worst situations and tries to spread his good mood to others. Because of this and his confidence, Max has never had trouble finding friends.

    Weaknesses:

Shallow Knowledge Base: While it's true that Max knows a lot about a great deal of subjects, his knowledge base is far broader than it is deep and he often knows only the minimal essential information about a topic unless it is one he maintains a lasting interest in such as Pokemon or fossils/rocks.

Cocky: Part and parcel with his other traits, Max often overestimates his abilities or how much he knows about a subject. He often thinks he's better than he is and because of his natural confidence is a bit too open about this than he should be.

Short Attention Span: Part of the reason Max knows about so many different things is that bar the select few topics that hold his attention, he loses interest in things quickly. He's the sort to take up a hobby or research subject and pursue it with furious intensity until he becomes bored with it and then he simply moves on to the next thing to capture his imagination.

Single-minded: In combination with his short attention span, Max is very single minded. He will focus in on one task or objective and not think about anything else until he is done with that one thing. This means he can become obsessed with something to the extreme for short periods of time until his attention-span kicks in and he loses all interest.

Tactless: Max is the honest sort. Too honest. Honest to the point where he doesn't have a bad filter, he lacks one entirely. He's lucky his good-natured because he's the type to say exactly what he's thinking without considering the repercussions. If he thinks you're funny, pretty, interesting - he'll tell you... unfortunately he'll also tell you if you're a dork, boring or look a bit odd too.

Brief History: Max didn't grow up wealthy. His parents lived paycheck to paycheck and he could never really afford expensive clothes, hobbies or events. They were also always working to try and provide for Max and his sister, so the two of them had a lot of time to themselves where they had to find their own fun.

The one thing that Max's parents never held back money on however, was education. As such, Max learned to invest his time in learning to avoid boredom and quickly developed a thirst for learning. Whenever a cheap book became available, he was quick to buy it. When there was a documentary on TV, he watched it. Any chance he got to explore the city or the surrounding areas, he took it, often spending days just wandering about until he found something interesting. As long as he had something new to learn, Max was never bored. Of course, with his attention span, he ended up bouncing between interests a lot which only added to the vast number of topics he studied.

It was a trip to an open day at the Devon Corporation that forever changed things for Max though. Steven Stone gave a brief, child-friendly, lecture on stones and fossils and for some reason the passion that the man spoke on the subject with invigorated Max and stuck with him. He immediately checked out as many books on the subject as he could from the library on the subject as possible and since then it has been the one true constant in his ever changing list of interests.

Since then he as hunted for rocks and fossils as often as he can, building a small collection for himself although he rarely finds anything of any practical use or value. He did once donate a Thunder Stone to the museum (and later made his parents face-palm when they informed him he could have made money off of selling it instead). As time went by, his interest never faded so when given the chance to start his journey with a bone fide fossil Pokemon, Max jumped at the opportunity.

    Spoiler:

    S T E F F i
    Name:
    Stephani "Steffi" Bashira

    Age:
    16

    Gender:
    Female

    Appearance:
She is 167 cm tall, so of average height. Her above average weight make her curves more than a little pronounced - she's definitely a chubby girl. Her skin is dark, but in the middle of her round facial features sit two large, icy blue eyes which are probably the bodily features she is the most thankful for. She is not particularly athletic, not having moved much more than she needed to over the last three years in Rustboro. Her long hair being a natural dark brown, she dyes it regularly to match her eyes in a bright blue flavor.

Her usual attire on the road will consist of dark leggings or occasionally jeans, and wide necked t-shirts over spaghetti tops in various color combinations. If there's a chill in the air, she has a blue hooded jacket she likes to put on. She wears two special trinkets around her neck. One, she got together with her bffs Alma and Dora. It is a silver chain holding a shiny pink glass pendant, and it signifies "her" color in their trio, while Alma's is blue and Dora's is green. The other is a golden-colored chain with a yellow star, while her little brother Jed has a moon and her big brother Philip has a sun - although she doubts Philip wears it at all. On her feet, Steffi prefers to wear some kind of stylish sneakers, even on the journey. Her items are carried around in a black backpack, but a special belt sits loosely over her wide hips, featuring six magnetic slots for pokéballs.

    Brief History:
Steffi grew up with her parents and two brothers. One older named Philip, one younger named Jed. As a middle child (and also as a bridge between Alma and Dora) she has mastered diplomacy where others would deem it hopeless. She has also had to learn ways to get on by and thrive without getting too much attention - creating her own, or pretending she has attention in some ways. There is only a year between each of the siblings, and she is the only daughter, but Jed is girlish enough to make that title redundant, and Philip is doing the most in his role on the other side of the spectrum.

Mrs and Mr Hummel are modern Mareep herders, living in a small ranch on the outskirts of Rustboro, but they know that only possibly Philip would want to follow in their footsteps. Jed is way too artistic to take care of a farm all day long, and Steffi... Well, she sure doesn't get out into nature a lot. She mostly hangs out with those two friends of hers. But the parents are convinced that Steffi is a lot wiser than she takes credit for.

A couple of months ago, Garen - one of the hottest seniors - suddenly asked her out! That day was the best day of her life. He saw her, not the coolkids, not the smartkids - but small unspecial, fat Steffi. She never reflected much on his reasons behind dating her, but for some reason Alma and Dora were always skeptical. She figured they were just jealous! So she had a boyfriend suddenly, which Dora and Alma didn't, and it was so cool. He was talking about the fancy college he was going to attend soon... But then he suddenly dumped her, just before he left for his new endeavors. How could he? She loved him! It shattered her world. But instead of doing her best to get over him, as her friends tried to convince her to do, she started making a grand plan of how to get him back. It was the only part of her life during which she had been feeling cool, and she refused to let that go so easily...

    Goals and Interests:
Garen loved pokémon. Steffi didn't even own a pokémon of her own. So that must be it! In order to become cool again, in Garen's eyes, she needed to become a pokémon trainer. As such, her main goal and purpose of the journey is to gather a team of the toughest, coolest pokémon out there and win as many battles as she possibly can. So that her ex will finally take her back when he sees what he lost. Question is... Will that goal last throughout the journey, or will she discover new purposes and goals in life along the way? (spoilers: duh)

Her usual interests include reading, watching movies, playing video games with friends, painting nails, trying out make-up, eating very sweet things - a lot of typical indoor activities. She was never much for the outdoor life, which could become a challenge on this journey. She has a love for the internet and will likely feel alone and disconnected whenever she's out of data or range for her smartphone.

    Strengths:
    BFFs
Having two best friends rooting for you on your journey and doing their best to keep in touch on a daily basis is nice. When these friends also have particularly useful talents to lend you, it's just amazing. The energetic Alma is a know-it-all when it comes to Hoenn's geography and biology. She's always gained the highest grades in pokémon care and history and such courses, also. The sarcastic and seemingly lax girl Dora hates those subjects but is instead a technical genius, along with being a huge fan of pokémon strategy and battles on TV. Whenever there is some worldly knowledge Steffi lacks, she can give Alma a call. When there is some tricky problem that needs to be solved, she can call Dora up.

    Attitude Fortitude
Up until the Garen-indicent, Steffi had learned to basically never take anything seriously. Due to her chubbiness or laziness or weirdness or something else, she got bullied a lot in school until she learned to shrug it off, and before she met Dora and Alma in high school - who really didn't care about her shape or size and were weird and half shunned in their own ways. Steffi still laughs anything off if she can, and will never visibly feel bad about being insulted or shamed, as she simply handles it by makes fun of the situation, the insulter, or herself.

    Diplomat
She can often sense a brewing fight and instinctively act to calm things down before the storm is let loose. She got plenty of practice keeping her brothers at bay through the years, as well as bullies. At the very least, she will not be the one to start arguments or take the bait from someone who tries to make her angry. It makes her feel somewhat useful in the world, to see people calm down or avert arguments.

    Weaknesses:
    Uncertain Dreams
With two skilled and knowledgeable friends, one brother who knew more about make-up than she did and one that could probably build a house or a car from scratch if he wanted to, what was left for Steffi to be good at? She really hasn't figured it out yet, and it stresses her up. She doesn't reveal this fear to anyone, though - 90% of time she keeps up her self-secure facade. But deep down, she really isn't sure of what her own identity truly revolves around.

    Dependent Extrovert
An extrovert to a fault and needing her friends around to feel capable, Steffi can't stand being alone. Expect her to feel quite lost and alone if she loses her smartphone or has bad connection, and nobody else is around.

    Fear of pointy things
You heard me. She fell on top of a pitchfork at the age of 6 and punctured a lung. Luckily she fully recovered, but was sort of traumatized and now gets nauseous from being too close to pointy items or looking at them for too long. It's been a decade so she has managed to work through the worst part of the fear itself, but she's still hugely uncomfortable with pointy things. For example, she only eats with spoons. Forks or knives are a no go. So, about that starter the professor gave her...

    Chosen Starter:
    SNEASEL // f // Keen Eye
Scratch - Taunt - Quick Attack - Feint Attack - Icy Wind - Icicle Crash

  • Hi, this is your friendly neighbour worldbuilding consultant Venia from FF&W and I was asked by @adventure to take a look at the character profile posted above and provide some feedback. All on the interest of the player's interest in making sure the character is believable for the adventure that y'all have posted here and that hopefully goes well because Hoenn is best region fight me.

    S T E F F i
    Name:
    Stephani "Steffi" Bashira

First, we see that Steffi is a person who has a degree of discomfort with their own personal appearance. While the Pokémon world has a wide array of hair and eye colour choices compared to our world, it is still interesting to see that a character would want to regularly dye their hair an entire different colour even if specifically to match another physical aspect of their personality. This is of course not counting the "ugly, fat Steffi" aspect, but I feel the hair-dyeing specifically adds interesting potential for character development hooks because, among other things, fits well with the aspect described of the character about wanting to appear as if she has more attention.

We are not told of Steffi's ethnicity though darker skin tone is mentioned and the fact that parents are Mareep herders suggests at least inner continental Hoenn procedence, should give her character lots of places to "fall back to" during her adventure. Mareep herding sounds like a beautiful line of work by the way.

Personality-wise the main source of potential problems I see is that Steffi has built herself into a mediator, standing on the crossroads and swirling around in attention for a number of elements that will tug her attention into different directions (sibling v sibling; Alma v Dora; Garen v her Pokémon) and mediation is a very energically taxing activity on most people's personalities. As such, she might develop a number of coping mechanisms if she hasn't already - there is mention of the activities she likes being such as watching TV or eating sweet food, the kind of activities that while you can do with other people you still do essentially by yourself: they are not collaborative or competitive activities. And as she can't stand being alone, what she basically looks for is for the kind of people who can be "alone together".

Speaking of coping mechanisms, there is the potential that she has built Pokémon Training as one as well: by her own admission of sorts Pokémon Training starts as a way to "get back" on a wrong done to her which while being among the ISO Standard Procedures to start up a hero™, here does not look like it'd lead to anything strong enough that would focus and release that emotional energy. Alternatively, she would would build up Training as a means of gauging people to meet her expectations - to not be disappointed again, to not demand outwardly activity and interaction, etc; leading to conflict-oriented estimations and approaches to meet new people when combined with her dependency on Alma and Dora to, in general, approach (not just solve) problems out of her comfort zone.

Her one advantage in the way she builds the world around her is that, the combination of the societal approach of getting to know each other and solving problems via card battles on motorcycles Pokémon battles on Mach bikes and her mediation expertise teaching her over time to judge people, she might grow up to be very good at making mid-battle judgments and evaluations of opponents, and depending on the team she builds she might be good to work on forcing opponent trainers to "show their hand", expose and weaken their own strategies and generally holding her own in a disadvantageous battle for long enough that the opponent might tire out into a forced mistake.

With all that, Sneasel is an interesting choice for a Starter Pokémon - is it given to her, assigned or does she obtain it somehow on her own? I see Sneasel as primarily colonial predators, heavily relying on there being good number of them in an area that no good hunt goes to waste: alone by themselves they would not be very efficient and this also doubles with the consideration that a Sneasel's strongest morphological asset, clawing attacks, would require them to actively chase their opponents or to bide for taking a close range hit. Working with a Sneasel could teach Steffi the marvels (and wrongdoings) of goading people into doing what you want, providing an eventual reflection and contrast with her focus on mediating.

Of Hoenn mons, would recommend Swablu, Whismur and Poochyena as potential captures - in particular the former because of 1.- fitting colour scheme and 2.- techniques geared towards "pausing" an incoming strategy and breaking opponent's dependency on factors such as timing and precision (such as Sing, Cotton Guard).

tl;dr: Steffi looks like an all around sensible and believable character. I see indications that over time she could go the wrong way, maybe not "join the local Team Blank" tier but at least not a welcome person to have to sustain conflict with. Could do well heading towards the Breeder or Ace Trainer occupation spectrum. Don't let her stay in one single town for too long, or she might start instinctively catching up on the "venues of conflict" the local population has, which would keep her mediation self on edge and distract her from some of the most critical aspects of Pokémon training - that is, keeping an eye on what your Pokémon are perceiving. Towards adulthood might pick up traits from archetypes such as The Drifter and The Power Broker.

I hope this has been useful and I am wishing Steffi, and this RP in general, a good go.

Thank you, Venia!! So very insightful.

As such, she might develop a number of coping mechanisms if she hasn't already - there is mention of the activities she likes being such as watching TV or eating sweet food, the kind of activities that while you can do with other people you still do essentially by yourself: they are not collaborative or competitive activities. Hmm, you're right in that if I claim she hates being alone, watching TV etc might not be typical activities she seeks to do. Or perhaps she ideally wants that comfortable "alone together" companionship, but hasn't really analyzed it herself much. I might change her interests a bit, or think about this a bit differently.

Am I understanding you correctly here where you say becoming a great pokémon trainer to get back at a wrongdoer wouldn't be enough, really, but if she instead saw it as a way to make pokémon training her forte to stand out? Because that does sound like a more realistic approach ahha.

  • Re the latter: It's more about the energy spent than how it's spent. As I mentioned, stuff like mediating is taxing on personality and emotion, she will need an emotional "refill" at times. "Getting back at a wrongdoers by being someone good" is highly relatable and provides lots of initial momentum, but it becomes harder to sustain the more you become a good person because you need spite less and instead you have to rely more on comparing yourself to other people -and she probably won't want to be close to them for that.

Basically if she can find a new fuel as she grows, something that goes with her initial goals growing more mature and practised from "I'll make you fall for me again", she'll have energy to go around quite a few rounds (in between emotional lulls). My personal take is growing from that one-person attachment to "I'll become a better Trainer so that people don't have to feel awkward around me" because of the whole learning to read people and learning diplomacy thing going on, but I'll leave you to explore any other viable alternatives.

Oh, that's what you meant! Yes, that was the plan :)

The energy thinking makes sense too. Thank you again, Venia, for the wise insights.

Can I lay claim to Mission 5? I think Kimberly and Ivy beating the snot out of Jimmy's Loudred would be real fun.
