  • Whoops, sorry for misspelling that. I just woke up. ^^; And I know Emerald is a she because I've seen her at a couple other forums (one of the forums she puts her gender).

  • What/where was the strangest place/thing you've written on when you thought of an idea that you could not lose?

I have been known to write on desks, hands etc, though my best place was the back of a friend's jumper in eyeliner. He wasn't impressed, and I could barely decipher what I'd written for three reasons - 1) I was rather inebriated, 2) It was a knitted jumper, 3) Eyeliner apparently runs in the rain.

  • Are you paranoid with your writing?(i.e. don't like other people to know what you're writing until you're done or forever) If so, have you ever written in a cryptic code or any variation thereof?
Never in code, although I am fairly secretive, ie nobody in real life knows I write fanfiction, except one friend who also does. So I keep it all on a flash drive and hide it. I'm actually horribly easy to crack when it comes to spoilers, though. I can think of at least one person who knows the key plotty secret behind Shattered.

When you're writing and releasing a fanfic/story, do you usually post your current finished chapter and then start writing, or wait a couple days before the release to start writing the next?

I wait a couple days. I posted the last chapter of Shattered on Tuesday, and I'm just beginning the next one now. I hope to have it up by tomorrow night.

Hmm. Usually I have a pretty good memory when it comes to fanfiction ideas, but even so I always have a notebook on my bedside table just in case. So yeah, I don't think I've written strange things on anything out of the ordinary... except school notes/papers.

I follow the first idea. Sometimes I'm just in a groove after proofreading a chapter one last time before posting it, and that's a nice way to feel when you're starting the next.

Somewhat. A lot of people will walk up to me at camp or school saying, "What are you writing?" "A story." "What's it about?" "Hard to describe." "Will you put it on Kindle or something?" "No." And that's usually the end of it. Most of the friends I have in real life know little to nothing about Pokémon, and those who do still don't know much about it at this time of writing. I really don't share stuff about my stories with anybody unless I know them well and it's private.

Since I write the whole fic before I post any parts of it, I would say the latter. This way, if I make any changes to the plot, I can go back and easily change things without readers getting confused.

I really don't talk about my writing at all to anyone, so I guess I do keep it to myself. I don't have a cryptic code to write in, though. But writing just isn't something that comes up in conversations for me.

I do acknowledge the fact that the more I tell someone about what I'm writing before it's actually posted, the more likely it's going to end up completely changed or unfinished

I wait a couple of days so I can make a good start on my next chapter, with the exception being my last one, which was written up so I could post it after my holiday.

I'm probably the most paranoid person ever with my writing. I don't think anyone knows any of my future plot elements, except one of my good friends who doesn't care a lick for fanfiction. Lolsauce.

In that vein, I actually do have a cryptic language. It's so cryptic that it can't be deciphered. It works off of the principle of vision-memory correlation: i.e. I'll see the writing and remember the words I was thinking of as I drew them.

The previous paragraph is complete b.s.

  • What is it with you and 'lolsauce', txty? It's getting kind of disturbing. roflcream I actually tried to write in code once. It took ages, as it was really complex, and I had to go through and work it out one letter at a time. It was something like 'take the original letter, go forward in the alphabet by the number of letters after it in the word, and then find the resulting letter's number value (eg A=1, B=2 etc) and then go forward that many letters in the alphabet. Go back 5 and there's your letter.'

Needless to say, I got sick of it pretty fast. I recently found a couple of paragraphs written in this code, but I couldn't remember the effing formula, so no dice.

Yup, I did create a code, unfortunately, it can't be written in the computer unless I create the font for it. It consists of 26 circular symbols that resemble the original alphabet in some way and if that wasn't enough the code is also mixed a certain way so even if you crack it, you'll still be reading gibberish. I do use this code sometimes but it takes so long to write. Still, no one has cracked it yet. On the computer however, I just use my 'shorten the word until it's not really understandable' code.

    That's what programming is for, S.D.! ;)

It's been a long time since I last used a ciphertext alphabet of sorts but yeah, I grew bored of paper translation and wrote a program to do the deconding/encoding for me.

Then I found about ROT13 and berated myself for takin so much time and effort for nothing...

That sounds like a job for Aquaman SVG and Python to me! :cheeky:

Nah, today if I want to write something cryptical I take one of two choices: I either do it handwritten (my handwritting is difficult enough for Med students) or scramble the words on each sentence by combining with math symbols that determine the order.

I always have some things written beforehand. Never release the "last" release, that's my policy an aftereffect of my backstory addiction.

I'm paranoid enough, thanks. There's the ccasional friend who knows I write FF but they don't know what fandoms I write in and they never will. With Pokémon being seen as a childish matter and a mark of social outcasts plus Final Fantasy being somewhat confused with D&D and its related geekiness where I live, it's difficult enough that if people startes questioning me more often I'd rather let them think I'm all into the Narutard fad.

Or... BIG No, I have to pick something not that low.

Anyways, I don't like my family knowing about some things I do, either. Or anyone for that matter. I save my fics, as well as those that I like to read, and my development database in an encripted flash drive. The key to that flash drive is hidden in another flash frive, my normal one, disguised as a file with topographical data. So not only an intruder needs to get both of my drives to access the files, but they need to have earlier knowledge about my development work to pinpoint the correct key file.

So yeah, I'd say I'm a bit paranoid. Then again, even if I weren't there would be some nasty people hunting me.

And then... why did I post the whole thing about the keys above.....?????????

    Oh and hi.

I always have the next chapter written before the prior is released. So, when I release chapter one, I'll already have chapter two done. Then I'll write chapter three, before releasing chapter two. Etc.

Ah yes, that's also true for most if not all Pokemon FF writers, about the fandom thing. It sure has gotten less popular over the years.
Encrypted flash drive, can you tell me how to do that? I wanted to find away to keep my writing out of prying eyes in an encrypted folder, it's just I don't know how. So now, I save it in a folder deep inside my computer where no one looks.

On a side note, Has anyone seen the Ash's comma theory? If so, what do you think of it?

I like it. It allows you to twist the rules of canon while using a canon character in a much darker way. It's a brillant idea. ^^

I was actually planning to write a oneshot about this. The major difference is that it wasn't a comma, it was all just a game. I won't reveal further till it's done but it will have nintendo somewhere in the fic.
edit: I just answered my own question....Lulz XD.

Yeah I have too. We had been discussing it in a philosophical sense (to the dismay of the OP, who had intended it to be parody), nonetheless, I guess the person whoever thought of it, wanted to have fun.

Yeah, I'd guess that goes for most fandoms (at least the animated or videogame ones). The problem comes when one lives ina culture where the term "Pokémon" itself has come to be associated with an urban tribe of lazy, amoral, delinquent and parasitic mutation of emos.

Encrypted flash drive, can you tell me how to do that? I wanted to find away to keep my writing out of prying eyes in an encrypted folder, it's just I don't know how. So now, I save it in a folder deep inside my computer where no one looks.
I'll be sending you a PM with suggestions, tomorrow I hope. Then again, if the day comes I'll write a FAQ (most people comments me stuff about privacy and jealous girlfriends when I explain why I encrypt my flash drives).

...The Ash comma theory? The one that was linked to Neon Genesis Evangelion? Or a whole new theory? *goes to look*...
