AMA 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

what's your current creative outlet?
Mostly gaming, especially ones where I can create my own characters/worlds.
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

I also dabble in photography, even if most of it is pictures of the hotels where I stay lol. Not that's it's the only thing I focus on...

And of course, coming up with sick playlists for our QueUp sessions :)
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

Haven't done much writing since my hotel essay (except for a couple restaurant/hotel reviews from my recent trip) and I haven't drawn anything since my masterpiece, "Map and Directions to the Quality Inn, Harrisonburg, Virginia" that I drew for my dad back in 2021.
Okay LeSabre. What are the five more anime series? ^^

Magical Stage Fancy Lala
(which is probably the #1 series I would recommend showing to younger kids)
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

I've still got even more anime recommendations, haha
And what are your favorite books?
Some of these are childhood favorites :)

Haynes Automotive Repair Manual series
Although not as detailed as the official shop manuals published by carmakers, these manuals were sold at retail and enabled the car owner to perform somewhat complex DIY repairs on their cars, with step by step instructions for removing, disassembling, and replacing key components like brake systems, transmissions, and engine components. Published for a wide variety of vehicles.

Quality International/Choice Hotels Travel & Vacation Directory series
Listed locations for Sleep, Comfort, Quality, and Clarion brand hotels, including contact information, amenity lists, and nearby attraction lists for each hotel, including maps and driving directions. This book series jump-started my hotel fascination that continues to this day, even if the directories themselves are no longer being published...

Interstate Exit Authority
Very useful resource for anyone traveling the US Interstate Highway System, this book lists traveler-oriented businesses (truck stops, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, etc.) in the vicinity of every freeway exit on every major Interstate highway, along with a good number of minor routes as well.

2000 Buick LeSabre Owner's Manual
The book that came in the glove compartment of the car with basic operating instructions and details about the various controls, displays, and gauges in the car.

The Fugitive's Sister, by Linda L. Case
The true story of healthcare executive Rebecca Parrett's flight from the law after her $2 billion fraud conviction, as told by her sister who helped in her run from the law - and ultimately went to prison herself for aiding and abetting her fugitive sibling. Rebecca herself was arrested in Mexico after over two years on the run, and remains in custody to this day.

I'm not including manga among these books since I figure that's gonna be another question that deserves its own top 5 list, lol

Okay, in the event this hasn't been asked yet, have you ever (or ever wanted to write) written up a non-fiction article about any of your favorite cars before?

What are your favorite manga?
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

Bloom Into You

Whisper Me A Love Song

Girl Friends

Our Wonderful Days

Arisa

(and yes, I realize that most of these are yuri titles, but hey, I like what I like :)
do you work on cars at all or just find the mechanics of them interesting in a theoretical sense?
More or less it's an interest in how they work. Plus, I starting buying the auto repair books when I was about 7 or 8 years old, so there's no way my parents would let me perform repairs at that age lol

They weren't specifically about my favorite cars but they were mentioned to some degree in both of these...

For my senior year in high school, I wrote a paper about automobile safety for our required senior research project.

And for a paper in college, I wrote about the trends of naming automobiles and how some carmakers were shooting themselves in the foot by.applying iconic names to inferior vehicles...

...a practice that's still going on, witness that Ford "Mustang" crossover, the Mitsubishi Eclipse which is another sports car name turned crossover, and the Chevy Blazer which is a crossver that is clearly not the rugged off-road 4x4 that the original Blazer was.

Whisper Me A Love Song

Favourite character, and general thoughts on the series?

Besides that:
What's your favourite Nijigasaki solo?
What's your favourite LL sub-unit?
Did you play SIFAS and (regardless of yes or no) do you have any thoughts/opinions of it?
Do you own any nesoberis? Which ones?
What do you consider your writing process to be like? Do you take notes, write things in any particular order, or decide what or when to write in any particular way? Are there any ways you find yourself falling into or out of writer's block?

Yori's my fave, she just has the cutest embarrased/nervous reactions :)

I picked up the manga to fill the void left behind by Bloom Into You coming to a conclusion, and so far it's at least as good, if not slighly better. I was beyond excited when I heard it was receiving an anime adaptation, but the fact that it's been in development hell since June has put a damper on things, and I hope they get it straightened out soon...

Of course, Dream With You :)
What's your favourite LL sub-unit?
Hopefully this provides a suitable answer:
Did you play SIFAS and (regardless of yes or no) do you have any thoughts/opinions of it?
I've made it a point to live out my entire life without owning a smart phone (yeah, I'm both old and stubborn lol) so I never got a chance to play it. Which is why I'm looking forward to the Niji visual novel release on Switch.
Do you own any nesoberis? Which ones?
Sadly, no, most of my merch funds have gone to figurines and other collectibles. I actually own very few plushies in general.

I... just write and let the ideas come to me? For my recent hotel report, I mostly had ideas form in my head, then started writing about them, consulting outside resources when necessary. It was a bit more involved with my old fan fictions, as I'd have a friend who would proofread my chapters and provide feedback, but they've been inactive on the site for a number of years, sadly.

[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING
My hotel reviews, however, do follow a specific order for the most part. First I go over the reason for my trip and why I picked that hotel, then I cover the room itself - the amenities, how clean it was, if anything wasn't working, the wi-fi quality. Afterward, I go into other aspects of the property, like the breakfast/restaurant, pool, staff service, etc. I close them out with a general overview of the hotel and whether I recommend it or not.
There is a desert island nearby. You can swim there, but you can only take one bag with you that can fit 4 things in. What 4 things do you put in the bag?
Nah, I ain't doing that. I can't swim in the first place so yeah, guess I'll die lol

Besides, nobody ever asks, "What would you take to a heavily developed and commercialized popular resort island like Hilton Head Island or Key West?" Odds are, I'll be MUCH more likely to end up someplace like that. In fact, I've been to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina before. Very nice place, though a bit confusing to get around, so one of the things I'd definitely bring is a travel guide with a detailed map of the island.

Yeah, the last few aren't even cars, but...

The Prevost is probably at the top of the list since they cost around $3 million and are basically luxury mansions on wheels.

[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

Depends on how intensely I "get into" the task. If it's something that's interesting, or something I urgently need to get done, I can spend hours on end devoted to it. For more mundane things, though, I can get distracted and need to get up, stretch, grab a drink/snacks, and walk around the room/office.

What got you into anime in general?
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy and unusually sleepy the past few days...

Anyway, I'm gonna skip past the whole "Sailor Moon was technically my first anime but I was too young to know what anime was" stage.

Instead, let's fast forward to college, I want to say my second or third year. This was after I stopped giving a damn about my grades and took on a more "minimum I have to do to pass" attitude. I began to pull more all-nighters that had nothing to do with studying, and flipping through TV channels late at night in my dorm room, I happened across the late night anime block on Cartoon Network/Adult Swim/Toonami (I'm not sure what programming "branding" they were using for that particular block.) I continued to watch the late night anime after graduating and returning home, since by then my parents were much less strict about bedtime (as long as I didn't disturb them lol.)

Some of the anime I remember from that time period that aired on TV were Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, s-CRY-ed, Case Closed, and the original Fullmetal Alchemist.

My first anime DVD purchase was a random volume of Ah My Goddess that I found in the local Wal-Mart in the small town my parents still lived in. I think it was volume 3 or something, but it was definitely midway through the show, and this was back when anime series were released with 4-5 episodes per volume instead of the full-season Blu-Rays we have today.

Wow, that trip through history went a lot longer than I thought it would, lol

I've finally returned from the long weekend and can start replying!
Top 3 colours and why?
In no particular order:
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING
Dark Cherry Metallic

[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING
Adriatic Blue Metallic
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING
Emerald Green Metallic

As for why, all three of these colors look classy and elegant on a vehicle, without being the generic black/random shade of gray/random shade of beige. Dark Cherry Metallic particularly stands out to me since it appears as a beautiful shade of dark purple from certain lighting/viewing angles.

(I couldn't find a good stock photo of a Buick in Emerald Green Metallic, but our family did own a 1995 Chevy Van in that color - similar to the pictured van, but ours was an aftermarket luxury conversion.)
Favourite scene from Robocop (1987)?
"Just give me my f**king phone call" is a classic line, especially since Clarence coughs up blood on the counter like he doesn't give a damn.

Special mention goes to the 6000 SUX ad, though :) I'd buy a car that only gets 8.2 MPG just as a middle finger to the environmentalists lol
You can bring back one Buick model, which one is it and why?
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING
The Roadmaster, since it was the last of the traditionally designed large Buick sedans - with rear-wheel drive, V-8 power, and the smooth, quiet ride that's only possible with body-on-frame design. It represents how big American cars had been built for decades. It's a massive car, and feels solid and substantial. Plus, it had a station wagon version, complete with the woodgrain exterior.

You can only save three LL characters. Who are they and why?
WHY MUST I CHOOSE BETWEEN BY FAVORITE WAIFUS?
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

Maki gets an obvious place on my list by virtue of being my first favorite Love Live girl. I typically don't favor the "tsundere-type" characters, but Maki is an exception. She's also the one to keep the rest of the LLSIP team under control and on task, which is really admirable IMO

[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

Kanon from Superstar is the "orange-haired leader" character that I can most closely relate to. She's more level-headed and down to earth than Honoka and Chika, yet she still has her cute, silly side (the whole "Kanon-Senpai" scene with Kinako, for example)

For further evidence, someone else summed it up better in this video than I could have:

[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

My third pick would be Hanamaru. And yes, I know a certain someone reading this is screaming "WHY NOT AYUMU?!" but honestly it was a tough choice between the two of them. But ultimately, "Mirai Zura!", her associated confusion and fascination with all things modern and technological, and her uncanny ability to eat copious amounts of food without affecting her figure in the least were too much for my heart to overcome, lol
Your FAVOURITE 80s band/artist?
Honestly, this is a question whose answer can change from day to day depending on my mood and what I feel like listening to. But as I type this, I'm in a Richard Marx kind of mood. Though he's best known for his ballads, his work in the '80's and early '90's was actually quite diverse, ranging from more rock-like songs to a haunting murder mystery set to music.
I still say that sheriff seems super sus.

Any particular LL solo song you think deserves more attention?
Do you have any thoughts on Nijigasaki's L! L! L! album?
Is there anything in particular you want to see from LL's content in the near future (things like Nijigasaki's movie trilogy or Superstar Season 3)?

I don't have a specific question for you at the moment, but I wanted to say that I genuinely enjoy reading your responses. The way you take the time to add imagery and go into detail is really impressive. You have great taste. Actually, that brings a question to mind: You've mentioned being a fan of Buick and have shared examples of cars you like—what's your opinion on electric cars?

What are your favorite Love Live series?
[PokeCommunity.com] 10,000 POSTS ASK ME ANYTHING

Maybe it's recency bias, maybe it's that Kanon is my spirit animal, but right now Superstar has the slight edge. But I've given all the main Love Live series a 10/10 on MyAnimeList, so you can't really go wrong with any of the seasons.
Any particular LL solo song you think deserves more attention?
I'm not sure how much attention it's getting in the greater fandom but I'm partial to Kanon's Kokoro Kirarara.

I didn't say "Dream With You" since I figured it's pretty popular within the fandom, though it's probably my favorite solo song in general.
Do you have any thoughts on Nijigasaki's L! L! L! album?
Pretty good album, I think my favorite tracks are the title track, Itsu datte for you!, and First Love Again. (Like my tastes with 80's music, I tend to gravitate toward the slower, softer, and more relaxing songs even when it comes to my jpop/idol song preferences.)
Is there anything in particular you want to see from LL's content in the near future (things like Nijigasaki's movie trilogy or Superstar Season 3)?
I'm trying not to build up expectations so I can be surprised at what they do bring to the table. However, I'm actually hoping that they don't introduce even more members. The original formula of 9 members worked well since it brought a diverse group of personalities, vocals, and abilities (like composing, lyrics, costume design, choeography, etc) to the group, while still keeping it fairly easy to keep track of everyone. For anime in general, about 12 "main" characters is my limit before I start losing track of who's who, and Niji is already at that number.

With that said, Wien is a very, shall we say, interesting individual, and I'm equal parts excited and nervous to discover what she brings to Liella :)

And llike I mentioned above, I hope the song list for the next season include some really great bouncy cute songs and relaxing ballads among them.

Thanks! I always try to add some creativity to things :)

As for the electric car thing, I'm not opposed to them in theory - as vehicles that are driven to and from work and can be charged up every night, I think they're fine. I don't think they're ready for long distance road trips though - the charging infrastructure isn't that well developed yet, especially in rural areas.

But honestly, my biggest issue with electric cars is the same one I have for pretty much every modern car - they're unattractive and have way more technology than they need. Cybertruck terrifies me. But hey, maybe someday someone will decide to stick an electric motor system in the body of an '82 Buick or something and I'd actually be tempted to buy an EV, lol
