    [PokeCommunity.com] 2020 Reading Challenge

This thread was inspired by an exchange between Cherrim and me on the Bird Website. The idea is - we pledge to read a certain number of books in 2020, and try to keep each other accountable! One issue of a comic book series counts as a book, and one volume of manga counts as a book as well.

For example - I plan to read a minimum of twenty books in 2020! As you finish one book and start another, post in here!

I read a grand total of 4 books in 2019 which was slightly shy of my prediction that I would read 42 books so.....

I'll try for 20 books this year. We'll see if I fail spectacularly again or go over by 400% like I did in 2018 hahaha.

This sounds like an amazing idea. I have so many I want to read and never get around to doing so. Ok I'll go for 24 I was going to do 12, but two a month sounds better.

Well, this year I read 31 books (I'm a third into a further two, but chances are I won't finish them tomorrow, though I did manage to read You look like a thing and I love you just over the past three days). Can I hit 35 next year?

Put me down forrrr.....25, since comic issues count!

(do the two i read late this month already count? it'd be nice if it did just because they're the first 2 in a series I'm reading)

no, you have to have finished the book in 2020 for it to count :(

OK, put me down for 100 books. This will motivate me to clear my backlog of comics. xD

Let's do it! I'm gonna try and do a whopping, 30 BOOKS! WOO let's get it!

Just finished: - Alien Worlds: Encounters with the unknown, by the Gamereport staff, an interesting analysis of the greatest videogames set outside planet Earth and/or starring aliens, with a special focus on the failed and revived No Man's Sky (180 pages)

    - Bad Blood by John Carreyrou. A book that starts slow but becomes a detective story by the midway point and has a pretty fantastic final crescendo (352 pages).

Next up, one about economics and a videogame art/info book :o

I finished my first book back on the 6th - The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell. I enjoyed it well enough. The first 2/3 was solid, but the ending felt a smidge rushed. I think it could've benefited from another 50 pages or so.
Brief summary from GoodReads for those interested:
Soon after her twenty-fifth birthday, Libby Jones returns home from work to find the letter she's been waiting for her entire life. She rips it open with one driving thought: I am finally going to know who I am.

She soon learns not only the identity of her birth parents, but also that she is the sole inheritor of their abandoned mansion on the banks of the Thames in London's fashionable Chelsea neighborhood, worth millions. Everything in Libby's life is about to change. But what she can't possibly know is that others have been waiting for this day as well—and she is on a collision course to meet them.

Twenty-five years ago, police were called to 16 Cheyne Walk with reports of a baby crying. When they arrived, they found a healthy ten-month-old happily cooing in her crib in the bedroom. Downstairs in the kitchen lay three dead bodies, all dressed in black, next to a hastily scrawled note. And the four other children reported to live at Cheyne Walk were gone.
I rated it 4/5 Stars on GoodReads but - were the option available - I'd really give it 3.5/5 Stars.

I started reading The Passage by Justin Cronin but couldn't get into it after about 60 pages. I downloaded it to my iPad a while back, and started reading it on the Airplane without remembering what it was about... Turns out it's kind of a weird Apocalypse story. I'm not too interested, so I removed it from my device.

I've started reading The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow. Seems p interesting so far.

Also - I've updated the first post with the new people + updated progress of others. Thank y'all for participating :sloheart:

    Personal Progress: 1/20 Books Completed
