A blonde walks into a bar... (combined hairstyle thread)

I've dyed my hair four different times.

The first was the longest. It was the fashion at the time (the time being 2002, when I was 11) for guys to get blonde put through their hair in a salt-and-peppery sort of way. It started out as salt-and-pepper, then as I grew more and more comfortable with it I got the hairdresser to put in more and more bleach until the final time I did it in 2004 (yes, I did this for two whole years) when it came out like this:

Spoiler:

I laugh my ass off looking at this now lol, but at the time it was perfectly normal. So there wasn't really a whole lot of reaction... at least not to my face :P. Shortly after the trend turned to bleaching a blob of hair at a random spot on your head. I had wisened up by then and decided against continuing with that :P

The next time was in 2009 when I decided to go as a goth to a Halloween party. Much to my mother's dismay (who, even though I was 19, was worried about me entering an 'emo' or 'goth' phase if I dyed my hair black for a costume). It looked something like this:

Spoiler:

That was me at the party, nomming on my crucifix for a poser shot lmao. The reviews I got for this were pretty much all positive, my hairdresser (who didn't even do this, my mother did it out of a packet dye) being the most positive of all. She thought black suited me more than my actual hair colour, and I was tempted to just keep dying it black to spite my mother, who was the only person who saw it negatively.

In her defence, the dye was called "blue black" and as such when I went out into the sun it was black but it shone blue lmao. She even told me I had to get it stripped out of my hair, at which point I told her to get bent. According to my hairdresser, if I had let her have her way and had it stripped out, it would have just become blue rather than blue black, which would have been even more hilarious. It didn't fully grow out for two months. There was still a little bit of black at the tips of my hair in the Christmas photos for that year :P

The third and fourth times were last year. I went to Supanova (smaller Australian Comic-Con) and decided to be funny and go cosplaying as my friend Ben, who does to his hair voluntarily:

Spoiler:

I found out after the fact that he does this to look like some anime character I've never heard of because I'm not a weeaboo, but that doesn't matter. Also, the photo makes it look toned down somehow, but it was essentially the left side bleached totally white. My friend dyes the other half of his head black, but that seemed like too much effort to go to for something like Supanova :P.

I got mixed reviews on this colouring. Some absolutely loved it, others absolutely hated it, but most of my customers took the attitude of "hey, you're young, this is the time you should be doing crazy **** to your hair" which was rather refreshing.

This was never going to be something I left in there until it grew out, because my experience with the black hair dye two years previously taught me that that would take two months and that was too long to be going around half-n-half. So I went to the hairdresser six days later and had her dye my hair back to brown. But since she couldn't find the exact colour the other half of my head was, she had to dye my whole head a darker brown than my original to compensate. I also decided I wanted a warmer brown because my natural hair colour looks dull as hell to me, so long story short my hair ended up looking like this:

Spoiler:

Not the best picture I'll grant, but whatever. This was easily my favourite of the dye jobs because although it looked closer to black than brown when I stepped out from having it dyed, over the coming days it settled on a nice warm rich brown and it looked freaking amazing in the sunlight. Everybody else loved it, too. Everybody.

...except once again, my mother. She blew like a volcano when she first saw it because she thought it was too dark and was ONCE AGAIN scared that I was going goth on her lmao. By this point I've learned to disregard her opinion anyway though, since it's wrong in 99% of occasions.

And that's the history of my hair dying adventures! I never fear when I dye my hair, because I always have a backup plan for if a dye job goes terribly wrong:

Spoiler:

I've never dyed my hair and don't plan on it. Dyed streaks are nice - probably the only exception if I ever decided to dye my hair - but even then, I'd prefer not to. I like my natural hair color and want to stick with it. :3 Though if I hadddd to, I guess I'd go for a bit lighter brown since my hair is decently dark.

Never dyed my hair, ain't thinking of it. Love my hair just the way it is~
(In a dream, it would be either light purple streaks, or simply purple bangs.)

Never dyed my hair before, but I've been thinking about dying my hair to a darker shade of brown, maybe a chestnut-brown color. However, I'm volunteering at a hospital soon and they have a policy against dyed hair because the chemicals could make sensitive patients worse, not to mention those that are allergic to certain hair dyes. My hair right now is black, so I've always wanted to get it to a lighter shade.

I occasionally get blond streaks in my hair, because I love them in brown / black hair shades.

The first time it was through-out, when my hair was a bit longer.

Recently it was just through out the front of my hair, which is what bangs I actually have left, due to how short it is.

I dyed my entire head green once. It was really fun! I would do it again, but professionally because my sister kind of sucked at doing it so there were spots that weren't bleached and therefore didn't turn green. I would like to do a purple tbh, haha.

I'd like to do some funky color like pink or purple sometime, but where I work, I can't do any weird colors. Oh well.

I've had my hair dyed purple, just because I thought it would look good on me, and it did. I was pleased with it, and the dye lasted a long time.

I would love to dye my hair blue, but the thing is, they don't have blue dyes.

I once change my hair to blue to be a prank. I was blue. Another was red. And we chase each other around streets. It was more funny if you saw it yourself.

I'm blonde, but usually I don't get crap about it because people think I'm smart. (I mean, I am a little smart, but some people think I'm like a genius or something, just because I don't study and make good grades.)

I died in black a couple of years ago. It was black black, not just black.

I'm naturally brown. People seem to like it? At least they always laughed when i was around!

Highlights count? I decided to get some blonde ones a few years ago. When they were finished, I was so disappointed because my hair didn't look any different.

Then I spent a week out in the sun and my hair practically turned blonde... it was a little scary.

I never have, but I want to. I have auburn hair (more brown actually) but I want to see how black hair would look on me.

Never have, though I have sometimes thought about dyeing the part of my fauxhawk that goes up blonde. Not a bright blonde, maybe dirty. One day.

What kind of hairstyle do you guys have? And what do you use on your hair? That means shampoo, straightener, hair spray, anything! Do you like to change it up often? How fussy are you when it comes to your hair? Is your hair dyed? Literally anything hair related, you can talk about here. Enjoy!

Personally, my hairstyle varies a lot. If I feel like putting a lot of time, I'll do a fauxhawk that never comes out the way I want it. Lesser time means I'll do a spikes up front, and if I'm in a rush, I'll just do a combed to the side. My hairs wavy, though, so doing my hair can be a real pain sometimes. And I use gel for the fauxhawk, only, usually never anytime else. Shampoo wise, gotta go with Pantene or Head and Shoulders. They work.

By the way, anyone know where the quote up top comes from? Hint: They're lyrics.

I just wake up and am happy with my hair. I like having messed up hair because combing it down makes me look too snobby.

i'm weird.

Type of shampoo varies, but moisturizing is a must. Same with conditioner. After showering, I let it air dry for about an hour, then blow dry. Half an hour before bed, I use a leave in treatment.

As far as how I wear my hair, I mostly tie it back if I'm doing things, but I'll leave it to flow free when I'm going out or whatever. I have a lot of pink and purple hair ties. I wear them proudly.

Lyrics are from Zebrahead - Playmate of the Year. totally didn't google the lyrics

I have African hair, so I can just let it grow into an afro and bam, instant hair style. If I want to take my hair seriously, though, I can blow dry and brush it after a shower to get a way bigger and neater afro. If I want to take it further, I can apply relaxer (this stuff which softens my hair and makes it dead straight when wet) to make it appear even bigger when blow-dried and brushed. But if my hair isn't in an afro, it's cut short. :3

Well, I just got a haircut, and, while still trying to keep my hair short, I wanted to try something a little different: Cut the sides and back short while just keeping the top and my bangs the way they are; however, I didn't have a picture for and example and I had trouble trying to explain what I wanted, so it's kind of messed up... :\
