You see, the thing is: while that may be very interesting and cool to have, there's only so much gold that exists in the world. Of course, you could make the same argument for the actual materials of coins, like copper, nickel and zinc, but those are much more common to find in nature than gold. Also, gold is expensive. I highly doubt that anyone would scrap their reliable copper or nickel coins to produce other coins made of a much rarer and more expensive material. What happens to the old coins then?? Where do they get sent? They could be recycled by melting them and using them for other stuff, yes, but that's a whole new long and expensive process that needs to include EVERY coin in the world.
Basically, it's not really worth it. Disagree.
