Because it turns out you've been walking all over shiny stones as you explore caves and now they're dirty stones!

Why can't I beat the Elite Four with a level 5 starter?
 
Because Level 5 starters only know how to rick-roll, while the Elite Four are tap-dancing.

Why can't I find a male Chansey?
 
Because it's when your Pokemon's attack becomes Quicker than the other Pokemon's attack. :0
