Artie joined when he was 19 out of a sense of duty, and quickly realised he hated it. Four months in, while guarding a lab full of Pokemon being tested on, or waiting to be tested on, Artie made a drastic decision and released all of them, going against the beliefs of his entire family. Knowing that his father and brother would be furious, he ran away.

He stowed away on a boat at Snowpoint dock, which took him all the way to Vermillion, Kanto, where he almost got arrested for, well, stowing away. He hitchhiked with a truck driver all the way to Viridian forest, at which point he got kicked out. He is now lost in Viridian forest.

Strengths:

- Intelligent: Artie's parents were wealthy, thus he had quite a good education. He attended the prestigious Acuity Academy in Snowpoint, a private school. He got fairly average grades, but average grades there are better than average grades in the rest of Sinnoh's public schools. He's intelligent in that he knows a lot of information. He could tell you the names of most Pokemon on sight and probably what type it is. He could tell you what types are super or not very effective on whatever Pokemon you're battling. He knows the general geography and history of most Pokemon regions, simply because they were all taught at his school. He is very good with factual knowledge.

- Calm: Artie's quiet nature has lead to him having a very chilled out personality and as such he is very good in many pressured situations. He is usually able to make what he thinks is the best or most logical decision, whether it is or not is another question. Artie's emotions usually don't get the better of him as he is often able to control them. It takes a LOT to make him genuinely angry.

- Enthusiastic: Every now and again, something will catch Artie's imagination and he'll run with it for a while. During this, he'll become much more upbeat, active and energised for a while than he usually is. He calls these his 'moments of inspiration' and they usually last for a few hours to a day or so. He'll become very productive, more outspoken and ecstatic about whatever it is that has captured his attention. Although they don't last that long, it's moments like these that Artie lives for and he tries to embrace them whenever he can.

Weaknesses:

- Terrible at communication: It cannot be stressed enough at how bad Artie is at communication. He often makes what he believes to be logical leaps and bounds in his mind, and because he thinks they are obvious, has assumed that everyone else has come to the same conclusion, thus feels no reason to voice it to anyone. He also just genuinely forgets to tell people things that they should probably know, unless he makes a specific effort to do so. His communication problem leaves both him and whomever he's interacting with frustrated, as he thinks they should have come to the same conclusion as him and they're annoyed that he isn't actually telling them much, if anything.

- Cold: Artie's quiet, lone wolf exterior often puts people off him as he is seen as cold and emotionless or rude. It also doesn't help that he is usually very honest, often brutally so, when asked something. If Artie doesn't like something he probably won't voice it without prompt, but if he's asked he will not sugarcoat it. He's even been known to say quite insulting things to people's faces. In his mind, he's just being honest on his opinion and isn't doing it to be purposefully mean or anything. He doesn't get anything out of being rude, but that's how he can often come across, and a lot of people really don't like it.

- Inexperienced: Although Artie knows what trainers do and how battling works, he's never actually done it. His father despised league trainers, thus it was never on Artie's radar apart from TV and movies. When it comes to actually battling, he has a lot to learn.

However he was bred for battling and thus when attacked, his instincts kick in and he suddenly becomes a lot more quick, alert and pumped.

Ever since he was a little boy, Ross had been interested in fossils. Instead of playing outside, like most kids in Fallarbor did, he used to go to route 114 to look for fossils. His parents didn't let him go further than route 114, but curiosity sometimes led Ross (who was very obedient most of the times) to enter Meteor Falls.

Ross is now 21 and he has decided to travel to Kanto for a year, to learn as much as possible about fossils. His destination is Pewter City, but what he doesn't realize is that he can get a gym badge in that city. Together with fossils, Ross is also interested in pokémon battling, so taking on gyms is something he'd like.

Family: Ross grew up with his parents, who owned a farm a little outside of Fallardor Town. They worked very hard, 7 days a week, but they enjoyed it. They didn't really care for all the stuff Ross was interested in, they actually wanted him to play with the other kids in town, but they knew they couldn't force him.

Strengths & Weaknesses:

Ross is very smart and eager to learn. He knows a lot, about a lot of different subjects and if there's a subject he doesn't know much about, he immediately wants to know everything. He's also a very honest person, and a loyal friend. He's always there to help where he can.

Not a lot of people notice this last quality, because he's also very shy. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it did lead Ross to have very few friends. His social skills in general aren't great either. With people, he can at least have a normal conversation, but he doesn't really know how to talk to pokémon, which is why it takes him a lot of time to gain the trust of his new pokémon.

Helix was the first pokémon Ross owned. Ross found him as a Wooper near a river on route 114, when he was looking for fossils. He was looking for traces of a helix fossil when he found the Wooper, which is why he called decided to call the water fish pokémon Helix. After that, the habit of naming pokémon after fossils just kinda stuck. The Wooper was injured, so Ross took him home to take care of him. Immediately after this, Helix evolved into a Quagsire. So far, Helix has been the only pokémon to like Ross the moment they met.

Second pokémon: Plume (Farfetch'd, Male) | | Brave Bird; Sand Attack; Peck; Fury Cutter; Poison Jab; Aerial Ace

Ross found Plume when he was helping his parents at the farm. They had a problem with some bird pokémon and Ross had to help driving them away. Most pokémon actually left the farm, except for one rather stubborn Farfetch'd. Ross' father didn't see any other option than catching the bird. Since he didn't know what to do with it, he decided to give the Farfetch'd to Ross, who then gave Plume his nickname.

Thank you. I'll make my first post tomorrow. As for the 'strengths and weaknesses' part, I kinda had trouble writing that already, since I didn't really want him to be a 'stereotypical nerd' (I failed).

After going through two other ideas for characters, I settled on this one. She's a good deal simpler than Anselme, but maybe that's what I need. New SU officially up for review.

Name: Kiya Bonham
Age: 16
Gender: Female ♀
Hometown: Saffron City, Kanto

Appearance: Kiya has a good bit more muscle than the other girls her age (though she isn't anywhere near bodybuilder size) thanks to many years of practicing Karate. Aside from Karate, she also enjoys various outdoor activities like hiking and swimming along with occasionally fighting wild pokemon with her Hitmonchan. All the outdoor activity has tanned her skin a bit, but she still isn't quite as dark as her mother, having inherited her original color more from her pale father's side. She stands at a shorter 5'4" and weighs around 143 lbs, the weight coming mostly from muscle mass. Kiya prefers to keep her curly, dark brown hair short, but not too short so that she still has the ability to put it into her favored hairstyle, a ponytail (although without the ponytail, her hair looks awfully messy). Her eyes are the same dark brown color as her hair.

Concerning her clothing, Kiya proudly wears her karate gi regardless of the setting. The gi itself is white and loose-fitting, made of a light, canvas-style material that is durable in order to withstand the stresses put on it. She also wears her recently-acquired black belt around her waist, signifying her achievement of the 1st Dan rank. She owns other clothes, of course, but it is all sporty such as tank tops and shorts and even then she usually only wears them when her gi is dirty or torn (her pajamas being the only real exception) . Her concern for her overall appearance is minimal, from her unvaried and simple wardrobe to her uncared for hair. Makeup is also a no-go for her (a time waster) as is jewelry (which gets lost or caught on things easily).

Family: Kiya is the daughter of Black Belt Aaron Bonham, star pupil of the Saffron Fighting Dojo's master Kiyo (for whom she is actually named after), and a security guard for Silph Co. named Sylvia. The pair met when Sylvia came to the Fighting Dojo to learn martial arts in order to be better at her job, and they formed a natural bond over their passion for what they do. Kiya's birth did nothing to slow them down in their pursuits, and she spent most of her childhood training in the dojo with her father since her mother worked daytime security.

Kiya has a good relationship with her maternal grandparents who live in the Saffron City as well as her maternal aunt, although she has yet to meet any of her paternal relatives. Karate Master Kiyo is a lot like an uncle to her, though, and she is well-liked by the few remaining students and their pokemon. She does not have any brothers or sisters, although her parents are considering having another child.

The three of them live together in a small, two-bedroom apartment belonging to Kiya's mother, but none of them really spend much time there as Kiya's mother works long hours and her father spends all his time in the dojo, herself along with him.

Interests and goals: Martial arts is Kiya's life. She's practiced it ever since she could walk, and is determined to continue doing so for a long time. Unfortunately, the Fighting Dojo has been facing dire straits and it is possible that the master will need to close the dojo in the near future. Kiya's father does all he can to get new students for the dojo, but it never seems to be enough. It doesn't help that its master is known across the region as a former gym leader who was completely crushed by Sabrina in a battle for his title.

Not wanting to lose the place that means so much to her and the people she cares about, Kiya dreams of becoming a powerful trainer as well and challenging Sabrina for her title as gym leader to bring honor back to the Fighting Dojo. Unfortunately, while she is a skilled fighter, her pokemon battling skills are average at best. She knows that she needs more than just the dojo if she wants her pokemon to become strong enough to destroy Sabrina at her full strength, and she also knows that she doesn't have too long to do it if she wants to save the dojo in time, so she decided that taking on the pokemon league challenge would be the best way to get stronger sooner. Instead of getting stronger through years of training, her pokemon would become strong by fighting strong opponents.

On an unrelated note, Kiya happens to have quite the sweet tooth.

Strengths:
Being raised in a Karate dojo has made Kiya into a hard-working individual, and the many years of training have made her physically strong. Her skills are her pride and allow her to walk with great self-confidence. This confidence has translated into what some would call bravery, facing obstacles without fear regardless of they are, although it could just as easily be called arrogance.

This lack of fear applies to social settings as well, as Kiya cares little of whether or not others like her, only that they respect her as a martial artist (though she doesn't react well to disrespect for her art). This allows her to speak her mind to whoever she wants, whenever and wherever she may be, regardless of the consequences. Although there isn't much one could do if she upsets them given that their words mean little to her and that they probably don't want to try physically harming her lest they end up with a broken bone or two.

That being said, Kiya isn't inherently mean, though she probably won't go out of her way to befriend people or, more importantly, help them when they're in trouble. She believes that everyone should be able to become strong, and that overcoming their own challenges will help them do that. She herself does not like accepting help for that reason, though teaching someone so they can do something themselves is acceptable help in her opinion.

Weaknesses:
One of Kiya's greatest weaknesses is her simple mind. This covers many things, such as her sub-par academics, her lack of creativity, and her short-sightedness. The latter is probably the biggest consequence of it, since she often bites off more than she can chew thanks to not thinking things through.

Kiya's life has been dedicated to martial arts, and as such she has virtually no other interests. Other things will easily bore her unless she can find some way to associate them back to martial arts. Because of this, people tend to find her dull and she finds it difficult to make friends (other than the guys at the dojo). On the other hand, she doesn't usually feel like spending time with people who have no interest in at least some sort of athletic activity as she quickly finds herself without things to talk about an becomes bored.

Uncharacteristically for her age, Kiya seems to possess a childlike innocence in the way she views the world from not having been exposed to very much of it, even from TV or radio. She seems to believe that everything has a simple solution. Thanks to her parents, she also sees no fault in putting all aside to pursue one's passion, unaware of worldly restrictions like money and sometimes even family preventing some people from doing so. Her morality is also a bit skewed, seeing nothing wrong with the idea of fighting her own pokemon or refusing to help an injured person.

Starter pokémon: Champion the Hitmonchan ♂
Ability: Iron Fist
Nature: Naughty
Moves: Bullet Punch, Comet Punch, Mach Punch, Pursuit, Fake Out, Endure
Bio: Champion has been with Kiya since she was a little girl, given to her as a Tyrogue by the Karate Master. The two have practiced martial arts together, sparred together, and even fought wild pokemon together every once in a while for over a decade, and eventually the little Tyrogue evolved into a Hitmonchan.

Champion was rather bratty in his childhood, and his fights with Kiya were not always friendly bouts. At first, it was the Tyrogue that always won, but after a year of fighting, the little girl finally got her first victory. She earned the pokemon's respect and they became friendly rivals, something that helped the pokemon on his way to evolution. When he did finally evolve it became clear that Kiya was no longer any match for Champion, but out of respect and friendship he still spars with his trainer so she can become stronger, hoping that someday he will be able to go all-out against her like he used to.

When it comes to others, though, Champion tends to view them with contempt as weaklings until proven otherwise. He does not know that it is not normal for a trainer to fight their pokemon, so he applies this thinking to other humans as well as pokemon.

Kiya gave him his name with the words, "Because you're going to be a champion one day!", although she never actually specified what it was he would be champion of.

Second pokémon: Rival the Mankey ♀
Ability: Anger Point
Nature: Bold
Moves: Low Kick, Scratch, Frustration
Bio: Rival is a rather weak member of her species, something that doesn't go together well with her temper, which matches, if not exceeds, that of her peers. She would often get into fights and be unable to follow through, losing the majority of them. Her intelligence is rather low, being a Mankey, and as such she doesn't learn much from her losses, but her body has built up a strong resistance to pain thanks to the beatings. Pain tolerance and perseverance make her tough to keep down. Fortunately for her, though, she does have a way to fight back in the form of her ability: Anger Point. If she can hold out enough to take and survive a critical hit, she becomes quite the formidable foe.

Rival encountered Kiya after the latter crashed into her when she was crossing the road of Route 3. Naturally, she challenged the martial artist, but her wild attacks were no match for years of training in Karate. Champion was her next opponent, but the powerful veteran made short work of her. Without the strength to fight back, Kiya caught her easily. She's been traveling with them since.

Rex's travel outfit consists mostly of plain, nondescript attire. He sports a short-sleeve green blue t-shirt, and long cargo pants with plenty of pockets for supplies. Over these he dons a lightweight black hooded jacket, which he uses to shield himself from the elements. As mentioned above, Rex prefers to wear dark sunglasses during the daytime, only taking them off when it
becomes too dark to see. Hiking boots, a knapsack, and his pokegear (a gift from his father's employer in Goldenrod; worn as a watch) complete the rest of his typical ensemble.

Rex's introduction to Pokemon was rather different than it most people's: at the age of 14 he was offered a scholarship to go study Pokemon over in the Kanto region, partly because of his high exam scores. Rex then moved to Kanto to pursue this unique opportunity, leaving his hometown and everything he knew. He spent the next few years studying to become a pokemon researcher; one of the youngest trainees by far. After four years had passed, Rex finished his research training. However, something did not feel right. He was finally finished, could pursue a promising scientific
career, but Rex wasn't as excited or content as he expected to be. After a brief trip home, Rex learned that his father had previously been a pokemon trainer back in his day, which sparked a new idea in Rex. He decided, with much encouragement from his parents, that he should take a break from his studies and try his hand at raising a pokemon and taking on the Kanto league. It doesn't exactly seem like the most logical course of action to Rex, but maybe, just maybe that's a good thing...

(Now, here are the actual interests and goals...)

- Learning about Pokemon: Pokemon are fascinating creatures, and Rex makes every effort to remember all he can about them. He prides himself on having the Kanto pokedex down by heart, and thus not needing to carry one around with him. He believes this knowledge will come in useful someday, at times other than annoying those around him with his useless facts. On the other hand, Rex's fixation with pokemon knowledge might go a little deeper than that. It might just be that he hopes that if he can learn enough about pokemon maybe one day he one might actually befriend one himself....

- Reading: A complete bibliophile, when Rex is not working, eating, or sleeping, there's a good chance he's reading a book. Books provide Rex with a convenient escape from the monotony and boredom that comes with transferring from a busy lifestyle to one of free-spirited wandering. It doesn't matter what the subject is, if it's inscribed on paper, he will lose himself in it,
much to the dismay of those around him wanting to socialize.

- Becoming a capable pokemon trainer: Rex has never handled a Pokemon prior to receiving Mudkip, and it's not something that makes him entirely comfortable. In his mind, he can't wait until he finally finds the key to becoming a proficient trainer, despite his parents advising him to be patient, since becoming a good trainer is not something that happens overnight. Until he finally comes to terms with that, though, he is anxious to improve his novice trainer skills.

Family:

Rex has family back in Goldenrod City in Johto, where he was born and raised.

His father, an engineer working for the resident radio company, was Rex's inspiration to take his journey. Rex looks to his dad, who was a talented trainer back in his day, before he settled down.

Rex's mother played an important role in motivating Rex to follow his aspirations of becoming a trainer and challenging the Pokemon League. As a mother of four children, she is always busy, but always finds the time to encourage Rex when he needs it.

Rex has three younger siblings, a two sisters and a brother. They were all very close when they were younger, but as they grew older they began to drift in different directions due to their different personalities. This is not something Rex chooses to dwell on very much, making it sort of a vague topic.

Strengths:

- Intelligence: Rex is very knowledgeable about Pokemon and other topics relating to science, history, and technology (these being his favorite things to study). This has much to do with his love of learning, reading, and also his time spent training as a researcher trainee.

- Logic/Problem solving: Rex actually enjoys solving puzzles and problems as long as they are the kind that can be solved logically. He thinks very rationally, and looks forward to challenges. He tends to view raising a pokemon as just another puzzle to crack (which is not a strength, believe me, I know). The advantage to this is that he has an easy time with the strategic aspects of planning a pokemon battle, having done so frequently in simulations back at the lab.

- Loyal: Rex doesn't make many friends (or make them quickly for that matter), but when he does, he's committed to them. He would never stop to question whether to help a friend in need, because in his mind they would do the same for him.

Weaknesses:

- Lack of creativity: Rex is very much a by-the-book person. When he is presented with a problem, he approaches it with the most logical solution and carries on from there. When faced with a problem that cannot be solved by conventional methods, (which happens to be pretty common when battling competitively), Rex panics. He often cannot think outside the box fast enough to deal with the problem that he is dealing with. This also tends to put him at odds with highly emotional or irrational people, since he cannot understand why they act the way they do.

- Fear of failure: Rex is plagued by the uncertainty of the task set before him. He is a perfectionist, and cannot stand the thought of failing something, much less what he has set out to do- which is to go head-to-head with professional Pokemon trainers. He feels an overwhelming burden to impress his father, and to prove to himself that he is indeed good enough to make it in the pokemon league.

- Loner: Rex tends to find himself doing most things alone, and likes it that way. He doesn't avoid people, but he definitely doesn't make any moves toward them either. This often comes across as cold or stoic, which is sometimes amplified by his almost mechanical rationality. This can present a lone wolf appearance to those who may come observe him, which actually belies a generally warm personality (to those he knows).

Rex recieved Mudkip from Prof. Oak, who happened to be giving out starter Pokemon to new trainers when Rex arrived back in Kanto to begin his journey. The "Pokemon Professor" was providing new
pokemon from many of the surrounding regions, something that Rex had been told was still relatively new. Rex, not knowing which small pokemon to take with him, was handed a friendly looking
Mudkip by the aging Professor, who made sure to congratulate the trainer, telling him that looked forward to hearing the great stories Mudkip and he would have to tell him when they returned from
the Pokemon league. He also made sure to warn Rex that pokemon need love and care, just like a human being. Rex, half exciting, half rolling his eyes at the professor's speech, received the
long-awaited poke ball from Oak, and then set out, headed for Pewter City, and his first

Not long after he began his journey, Rex recieved a poketech message from his parents. Eager to see how their son was, they chatted for a bit, after which Rex's father mentioned that one of the
magnemites that he worked with out on the radio tower in Goldenrod had been acting strange, and therefore coulnd't be used for maintainance anymore. Jumping at the chance, he offered to take
the pokemon for a while, seeing it as a great opportunity to help his son out with another pokemon companion. Thus, Rex's pokemon party doubled in size, even before he'd had his first battle.

So how long do I have to wait before making my first IC post?

When you sign up for a RP, you need the GM to accept you first. Your SU looks great, except for one thing. I don't want professor Oak to be handing out pokemon to new trainers just like that. The games don't work like that (in every game the player only gets a pokemon from the professor because of special circumstances) and the anime is silly 8) so you should get your pokemon from somewhere else or have a specific reason for getting a pokemon from the most famous pokemon researcher in the world.
