For my 10th blog entry, I'm going to share the memories of my favorite Pokemon games ever.
Who could ever remember that day back in April 2010, Pokemon Black and White Versions were revealed to the Japanese public. The moment when the boxart, Zorua, Zoroark, the Legendary duo (Reshiram and Zekrom) and the starters (Snivy/Tsutarja, Tepig/Pokabu and Oshawott/Mijumaru) were revealed.
When I saw every new detail being revealed, such as the new attacks, abilities, Gym Leaders, Elite Four, items, features and other characters being revealed I was expecting something awesome to come out of this game.
The history of Black and White:
April 2010 - Pokemon Black and White were announced via Pokemon Sunday. The next week, CoroCoro revealed the first screenshots of the in-game footage, as well as revealing the game's overworld will be in full 3D.
May 2010 - The region in Black and White was revealed as Isshu and the first city revealed was Hiun City (Castelia City). The starters, Tsutarja, Pokabu and Mijumaru were revealed along with the protagonists Touya (Hilbert) and Touko (Hilda). The two Legendary Pokemon and the boxarts were also revealed: Reshiram is the mascot of Black and Zekrom is the mascot for White.
June 2010 - Another set of new Pokemon were revealed to the public. The regional professor, Dr. Araragi (Professor Juniper) was revealed, along with the C-Gear and new-look Pokedex.
July 2010 - More Unova Pokemon were revealed along with the first version exclusives Gochiruzeru (Gothitelle) and Rankurusu (Reuniclus). Black City and White Forest were revealed, along with some characters: Makomo (Fennel), Bel (Bianca), Cheren and N. The PokeShifter feature (Poke Transfer) was also revealed.
August 2010 - Details from Junichi Masuda revealed that only Unova Pokemon were to be available prior to the National Pokedex. Masuda mentioned the reason behind this was to treat the games as a reboot of the Pokemon franchise. More new Pokemon were revealed as well. Japanese Black and White pre-orders reached 1 million.
September 2010 - Pokemon Black and White Versions were released in Japan and all the 156 new Pokemon were revealed. The Gym Leaders, Elite Four and Champion were also all fully revealed. Late in the month, the Best Wishes series of the Pokemon anime premieres in Japan, following Ash's new quest through Unova alongside Dent (Cilan) and Iris. The 4th Generation GTS website also closes down to make way for the new Pokemon Global Link website to accompany Black and White's release.
November 2010 - Pokemon Black and White starts English localization process, starting with the new Legendaries, Zorua, Zoroark and the starters. Reshiram, Zekrom, Zorua and Zoroark all kept their Japanese names while Tsutarja, Pokabu and Mijumaru became Snivy, Tepig and Oshawott respectively. Isshu got localized as Unova.
December 2010 - The US release date for Black and White was announced to be March 6th, 2011.
January 2011 - English localizations continue to emerge.
February 2011 - More localizations for several Pokemon, features, locations and characters were revealed. The Best Wishes anime series also premieres in the US.
March 4th, 2011 - Pokemon Black and White get released in Europe, starting the Generation V era for outside of Japan.
March 6th, 2011 - Pokemon Black and White get released in the United States.
March 10th, 2011 - Pokemon Black and White get released in Australia.
And that's how the amazing era of Pokemon Black and White began, and then in 2012 the countdown to Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 began. And that's why Generation 5 will forever be my fave generation of Pokemon (no puns intended).
Share your fave memories of Black and White in the comments, and look back on what was my favorite moment in Pokemon history.
