Challenges for Newcomers?

Mmm, when I had the idea to revamp the Adoption program thread on the Welcome Lounge, some interesting ideas popped up, like, what if there was something like the "Around PC in 7 Days" event from PC's Get Together 11.

Which by the way, if you don't know, or don't remember what that was, basically there were 'posting challenges', like, "Make a thread in 7 sections on PC" or "Welcome 3 people" that was part of a grand checklist to complete, and let's say.. there was about 25 things that we could of done in order to complete it. Something like that!

Do you guys think that this can work for newcomers coming in PC? Like a challenge for them to post in this "new world of the PC forums", to try and make themselves more comfy, like venturing into the unknown seas! If you guys think this could work, what sorts of challenges would you recommend the newbies to try and do as part of the checklist? Love to hear your ideas!

i think it could work,

That is a splendid idea, Shawn! This is a perfect way to encourage new members to explore PC with or without assistance. It's like we're giving them a theme park map explaining a little about every section of PC and what's in store once they arrive inside a certain section (like what FC&G has to offer, what ORAS/XY has in store as well as what kinds of discussions are there, etc).

28 sections in total...I'd downsize it to 20 or 25 to accommodate most if not all sections.

I'll expand this a little more as I'm about to leave for the day. But agh, I'd love to see this happen. <3

You know, I'm actually liking these suggestions so far and it could serve as a great way to help boost activity in the section, and even though the last event within the section (The Welcome Quarter) was not very successful, it was at least a good experiment though.

Hopefully this kind of event will be successful, because it'd be really awesome for newcomers to see what's hot and happening around the forums. Never hurts to try new things, as they say!

^ Even 14/15 things sounds like quite a lot.

10 starting things?

[ ] Make an introduction thread
[ ] Upload an avatar

As starting points and gradually getting harder. However, you've got to be realistic - making threads in seven sections is not likely to happen, unless they're spamming up the joint. The aim should get them comfortable, not doing things just to get an emblem or whatever.

etc.

[ ] Make an introduction thread
[ ] Upload an avatar
[ ] Create a Signature
[ ] Welcome one other new member to the forums
[ ] Create 1 thread in a desired section
[ ] Make a total of 3 posts in any desired section(s)
[ ] Make a comment on a blog entry
[ ] Send a friend Request to anyone on PC
[ ] Send a vistor message to anyone on PC
[ ] Give staff feedback (?)

That's what I was thinking. xD Of course, I'll provide mini guides on where to go and how to do certain things like VMing people, but yeah. I'm a little iffy on the last one, buuuut, I dunno, I was stumped!

Keep this in mind, this challenge will be forever-open to anyone~ And of course I will be keeping track of their posts so, I can outright deny their posts if they're not within the rules.

I agree abt the staff feedback one because I don't think new members will end up with any particularly useful feedback. Just spending a few days here won't really give them much of an idea of staff I don't think. Maybe have "join a club" on there instead? Clubs are really nice to get to know people with similar interests and make friends~

alrighty!

It's definitely good to me! Simple and easy to follow for the newcomers' convenience.

To those of you that were in the GT11 back in July, remember the Around PC in 7 Days event that Oryx hosted? Most of the things that were on it could make for nice ways for people to get to check out the various aspects of PC as opposed to just being attached to a couple forums.

To avoid confusion for newer members, I'd like to recommend expanding on first and last options to something along the lines of "create an introduction thread in The Welcome Lounge" and "join one group at either Pokémon Clubs or Fan Clubs & Groups." Though, if there are already plans to cover these sort of stuff in guidelines (e.g., where to go for certain things, how to get them done, and so forth), this might not be necessary, haha.

Well, bear this in mind, this is all just a rough draft to gather ideas, soooo, of course I'll do that in the final~!

Maybe get rid of "Give staff feedback."
I can already see the "you're great!!!!!11!" "feedback" that you would be inundated with.

I disagree with getting rid of it completely, but Shawn could make this an optional choice. I've seen new members in the past that have actually given feedback in the staff thread. If the member doesn't have anything to say to us staffers, then they don't have to post in that thread at all. We don't have to pressure them.

Some people would be way out of their comfort zone having to interact so much. Perhaps having 3 required tasks and 22 additional optional tasks? This would also help avoid spam coming from members obligated to do things they don't care about.
