Is that really all you want to do- because I don't really see buying a game a goal if you're not technically using your own money.. but hey, that's just me and I'm super picky. I have to wonder.. Who's paying for you to stay alive, bro?
Perhaps I'm being judgemental but.. if playing games is what you love to do maybe you should look into being a games tester. You can't sit at home forever lol..
Cause I can't really see how these are accomplishments..

Different people have different goals I suppose, I never understood why people are so happy about achievements, such as post count goals or game time. Before becoming active in November or late October I had 300 something posts now I have almost 900 not counting all my posts in Pokemon Trading. My point is I got 600 posts without even thinking about getting them. I just got them along with conversing like I am now, general posting like in polls, and of course debating stuff in my favorite forum Pokemon Anime. And of course I got 999.99 maxium number of hours on Pearl through years of trading. Before you actually wish to become Moderator you may need to think what being a Staff Member especially one on a site of this magnitude entails. It's more of a job then anything believe me, yeah you may get recognized and all that good stuff with being a different color user group, but at the end of the day your doing and job dealing with members and all that jazz. I am sure there is even more work to be done behind the scenes on top of all the work you have to do in a section as it is. My point is as glamorous as it may seem you better be ready for what comes along with it.

Wise words. It's not all fun and games. It's a responsibility.

What Livewire said, but! I've found modding B/W to be lots of fun actually, because idk it motivates me to want to post more (well I do want to, but actually posting more as opposed to a member who might just lurk) and I find getting to know the regulars of B/W pretty fun too, even if it is only in Pokemon choices but idk, there's been a lot of awesome people I've seen who spend time in B/W that I've kinda gotten to know (through posts or otherwise). I guess I'm still yet to see where it can be hard work, since it really is just...fun I guess. XD; And B/W has been pretty active in the past, so meh, I probably just handle it well. XD Can't wait for English release to make it super active though.

...

In conclusion, being a mod is awesome but involves a lot of time if you want to reach...the maximum...enjoyment!

I guess some people do value post count. *shrug* Not me personally though - it's just a number to me.

And yes, being a mod is nice and all but it does come with responsibility. *nods sagely*

I personally think being a mod is a waste of time. You can still enjoy PC just as much as a regular member. Half the people around here want to be mods because the want to help out, and the other half want to be popular and want to gloat/ want others to look up to them. It's as simple as that. There are just way too many children here to take the concept of modding all that seriously.

The concept of pokemon forums is a waste of time, it's place most people go their for leisure time or when they have nothing better to do. As do many other forums and internet sites. So being a Mod isn't any less of a waste of a time then being a regular member. It may be more time consuming though, but not any less of a waste. LOL modding for glory, I guess that's what people that back seat mod, do so they think the mods see that as good do, when they could use the report system as it was intended for.

Exactly. So if the point of this place is for leisure.. then how is anything to do with this place a true accomplishment? I can understand saying stuff like "I want to blog on PC more often because that will make me a more open person." or "I want to befriend 203004 people on PC so I can be more sociable" or "I want to be a mod because I want to be responsible" because I can see that they're all goals at betterment.
But if someone says "I wanna post more and I want to be a mod" I don't see how I can relate to that.

I hope this is not offensive, really.. but I really just can't wrap my head around these statements.

Maybe in the process of posting the person thinks they will become more social able, recognized, think of themselves better, etc. How it translated to moderation my guess it that it shows the person is at the very least active. Albeit there may not be too much quality to the posts if the person is hell bent on getting to a X amount of posts.

It was really never stated like that. Usually concrete goals don't really have that intention. Wanting to "post 900 posts" is different than wanting to "post around more often and be active." so yes. I agree with you that there wouldn't be quality if the goal is the number and not the "value."

Modding to some can also be seen as being recongised for a positive contribution to the forums as well, and some just want to help out on a place they've come to enjoy visiting and so forth.

But hey, people have all sorts on opinions on post counts and moderating and so forth. I certainly have enjoyed it and wish to continue as one, personally, but that's me.

Well for me PC is like a place other than GPX where I can pass the time while having fun. I do care about my post count, but I do not post here to increase it. That is why I have started to care about it, it carries a sense of pride in a way because I know that I got to where it is by just posting for the sheer enjoyment of PC.

I have not Modded anything before, I have owned and Co-owned clubs and hosted some stuff before online, but from what I can tell is that Modding can be time consuming and a lot of hard work at a site of this size, but from the way the Mods here act it is obvious it is still a lot of fun and they receive a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Anyway for 2011 my hope I can get a job by the end of this year and ace Australia's final Year 10 certificate. I have a little advantage with the yr10 certificate as I was selected to be a scribe for the SpEd. students in English, so I hope I can do well in that.

Ah, good luck with with the School Certificate, although it is not that hard a set of tests to be honest - as long as you put in the study you'll be fine. Maths certainly is easy for instance (or leastways for me - I'm a Maths guy XD), and the 'computing' test is an absolute joke.

I've been one and I actually found that it had made me way way too obsessive at the time (For example, I'd be reading -every single post- that was made in my section to make sure I was doing a good job.)

Perhaps that's why I see it differently?

Um, I thought it was expected that we read every single post. o_O

Or I do, at least.
