Then I think I read a book just some days ago.

Y'all damn kids with yer fancy readin' machines. When I was a boy we read from books. Big thick ones with racism in 'em.

Is it bad that I actually never read aside from novels and sci-fi? I see many people reading books on Politics, Economy but I just find them boring...

I am like the exact opposite of you. Except I read non-books of politics and economics. Or try to.

Uh, no? Book preferences are part of your personality and interests, if you're brain is hardwired to like a certain genre of storytelling then I don't see why its wrong. Its like when my friend tells me I have no taste or class whatsoever cause I read stuff like the Alex Cross series or the Nic Costa novels, which he considers American sub-culture. I'm like all, okay dude, you keep reading your politics and whatnot, and I'll enjoy my books, k?

I prefer reading on screens, whether it be via tablet, phone, computer, or anything else. Reading on paper is just… I don't know how to explain it. A little boring, maybe? xD" As for genres, I don't really have a favorite. Aside from romance and horror, I read all kind of genres.

So long as it catches my interest, I'll read almost anything that's Fantasy / Sci-Fi, Murder Mystery, or your basic young adult literature that takes place in high school. Nonfiction and political books really aren't my thing though. I typically tend to get bored when reading those. Then there are classical books which really depends. Sometimes I can find them too wordy or metaphorical ("Fahrenheit 451") that they become a chore to read, but then sometimes they have a good balance between the metaphors and getting the point across where I can't put it down ("The Count of Monte Cristo").

Oh, and I'll take a good old fashioned book over a book you can read on a tablet or an audio recording any day. Reading off a screen doesn't compare to holding a book, smelling its pages, and watching as you get near and nearer to the end of the story with your bookmark.

For the readings I've done for class this year, I can see your point. It's nice, quick and easy to read PDFs.

Yeah, I need the book to be a bit straightforward when it comes to the narration, but not necessarily simple in its structure. For example, I'm reading Armadale right now, and its great. Collins has a simple, Victorian writing style, but my god does that book go to town with the plot.

I'm the exact opposite! I can't stand reading 50 page papers on my laptop anymore - I need a physical copy to grasp and place to my forehead or maybe my laptop screen just sucks. And scrolling on a screen gaaaah so discontinuous compared to page flipping.

I love a good book with a complex plot that can really drive the story. It makes the book itself more enjoyable and engaging as it becomes harder to predict the outcome. Like watching television, some of my most favorite moments when reading are the times when I'm caught completely off guard by a plot twist I didn't see coming and am left in surprise. It's such an exciting feeling!

Its my one defacto quality a book needs to have, unpredictability. If I can't start at A and end at Z by way of X then I just won't enjoy it. Not too much mind you, sometimes plot set ups get too convoluted. My one gripe with ASOIAF. That series' chess masters must have the Seven, the Old Gods, and R'hllor backing em at once for their plans to go so freaking well.

I'm with bis. I need a physical book where I can read until my eyes get tired. And reading with an actual book is less tiresome than reading on computer screens.

I do all my reading at night, and having a light next to me bugs me, so I have to read on my phone. Which by the way, is a huge pain because my phone's screen is tiny (iPhone 4S, 3.5" screen). Being able to read on a larger screen is actually a big part of why I want a tablet :P

I read books, and I like to read a lot of them, but I don't read as much as I would like. And I'm not as dedicated to books than I am with something like a television show. When I watch a television show, I have to watch it to the end. I'm a completionist. But when it comes to books, it has to hold my interest and continue to be a page turner. Naturally, I can continue to read for a chapter or two from when it starts to get boring, but any longer than that, or if it starts to become predictable and I know for a fact what's going to happen, then I'll put it down for good. I've only had that happen to me with one book, though. For the most part, I can find any book enjoyable. I love reading. But I have to be in the right mood to actually read.
