Do You Think We'll Not Have Abilities And Held Items Again?

Do you think in Pokémon Legends: Z-A we'll not have abilities and held items again, like we had in Pokémon Legends: Arceus? Why or why not?

I'm really hoping we have them- it seemed like a mistake in Legends: Arceus, especially since they had done that in Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee previously. I remember thinking, 'Ach, they did this again...?!' when I discovered it whilst playing Legends: Arceus.

I think it could be the case. It wouldn't bother me at all. I liked PLA playing style. Only thing that would make me think items are allowed are mega evolutions, but it looks like you didn't have items in PLGPE as well while megas were still available, so yeah it could be done.
The only reason I would give to not see items come back is if they want to change the playing style again, which is totally possible.

I think it's very unlikely that they add both Abilities and held items because of the ones that would need to be reworked and adapted to the somewhat different Legends battle rules. Abilities/Items that interact with Confusion, flinching, priority, or other mechanics not present in the game would need to be changed or removed.

I hope at least Abilities do come back, especially because some weaker Pokémon that have great Abilities to make up for their meh stats lose a lot without them.

They're clearly using the games as some kind of testing ground to see what might work in the battle system and what could go. I'm personally hoping we get held items again but some other clever spin on the abilities (or even special moves) we've already seen to date.

tbh I didn't miss them in Legends Arceus though

I doubt they would have Abilities and held items again in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The Pokémon Legends series seems to focus more on adventure, backstory, and partaking in quests more so than battling, which is mostly a feature of the mainline Pokémon games. Although I was initially disappointed that the Pokémon Legends: Arceus game lacked Abilities and held items, overtime, I grew to enjoy the game despite the lack of those features because I enjoyed everything else the game had to offer. Hopefully, Pokémon Legends: Z-A can deliver us an even better experience compared to the previous game.

I doubt it, Legends seems to be a series where GF experiments with the traditional Pokemon formula; and considering Z-A is supposed to only take place in one city instead of across the whole region, battles will probably not be a large focus similar to Legends Arceus with a simplified system used for the few battles that do occur.

Well think about it this way:
Most Megas are defined by their abilities. So they'll probably do some work programming abilities anyways...
Might as well give the other mons abilities too, right? GameFreak? Please? cmon

I mean new battle mechanics are cool and all, but making each pokémon as distinct as possible is imo one of the most important aspects of the series.

I don't know. In order for held items not to make a comeback, according to aromatisse and slurpuff making a return, would require a workaround to evolve these trade by even holding an item. Some Pokemon that evolve with evo stones and trade exclusive Pokemon started showing up in the wild in galar and the paldean over world, but this may go to the point where evolution may become nothing more than just an afterthought.

Expects neither to be present. Falls under the Legends umbrella. Ought to follow similar mechanics.

Creates an interesting situation for Aegislash. How do you convey Stance Change without abilities? Predicts some NPC (or location) to allow you to switch between Sword and Shield forms. Would be a big nerf.

A thought: Really upends some Pokemon, but not others. Reins in some of the nastier Megas. Does almost nothing to something like the elemental monkeys. Could be a halfway decent environment for them.

I'm not expecting them. Created various workarounds in PLA, most likely will just use similar workarounds again.

Handled trade evo Pokemon that require items like Slurpuff by making their trade item into the equivalent of an evolution stone that you could just use on them to have them evolve. Just grab a Protector from your inventory, click use and select Rhydon and you could evolve it to Rhyperior, for example.

Despite no abilities in PLA, Cherrim still was able to switch back and forth between forms based on it being sunny or not.
Regigigas was also kept crippled with the effects of Slow Start, displaying the message "Regigigas is slow to get going" at the start of a fight.
I assume a similar work around would be done for Aegislash where it can just switch back and forth despite not having an ability.
