Just playing Sun and Moon earlier and noticed the chance of encountering Pokemon when just walking through grass seems lower than usual. What do you guys think on the matter? And is the encounter rate statistically lower than previous Pokemon games?

I'm not sure if it's been confirmed but I personally didn't find it to be all that different to previous gens. If it has been lowered then I'd guess it's because of S.O.S encounters which would make wild battles tedious if they were more frequent.

Me, I feel the exact opposite, that I'm encountering Pokémon a lot when I'm in the grass. That's just me though. It felt significantly tamer in both B2W2 and XY, but this is crazy, at least from what I'm getting.

I didn't have this at all, I feel like I was always finding Pokemon when I didn't want to. What was lower, though, was encounter rate of new Pokemon... like what. Why was that a thing? Why was Pichu 5% when everybody and their mom wanted to use Alola Raichu?

If felt slightly slower than average for me. Although caves felt pretty much the same imo. And I agree that the rare encounters were a bit ridiculous for some (looking at you, Maeranie.)

Now that you mention it it doesn't feel like the encounter rate has been decreased...
But on another note, some encounter rates for some pok?mon are crazy!! For example, Bagon ( you can encounter it on a specific patch of grass on Route 3) & freaking Feebas (i swear it has like a 1% encounter rate)

There is a spot where the bubbles in one of the fishing spots will reset when you walk away. That increases the chance of Feebas to 5% if you farm that spot.

Not sure if was different compared to the previous games, or maybe I didn't really pay much mind to it? If anything, I think finishing for pokemon took a little bit more time? Or maybe it's because of my low luck in general. :B
