Hey guys, out of curiosity, What happened to the first Fan Fiction you ever wrote?
Mine, is probably 20 or more pages deep in the board. I started writing on it again after an eighteen month hiatus, but I am starting to loose interest in it again, rapidly. -_-

On the other hand I have another story idea that I started typing on, I only got about a hundred words before I though of this topic. So I wanted to ask you guys if you completed your first fic right away? Or did you comeback to it later?

MY first fanfic? I didn't even know what the "Enter" button did.. it was a wall of text. small though.

I posted it on Fanart Central.

This was 6 years ago.

One reason why I didn't use LMGTFY is because it forces the search history onto you. It's not bad if one is searching for the proper way to punctuate dialogue, but I do recall one time it would have resulted in porn. And I don't want that forced onto me or anyone.

Though a way to avoid that is by actually telling the person what it is that you're linking them to. The example I gave was just a random tinypic link without any explanation as to what it was.

Also, by directly linking someone to the results, I find that it causes less wandering around lost on the Internet. I mean, what if someone is wrong on the Internet!?

My first fanfic was actually never posted. I didn't post anything until last year-ish, when I had been writing for a while. My first fanfic is sitting on the floor of my old room, buried in a box. I wrote the entire five-notebook worth by hand.

What do you do if you loose interest in your current fic and have ideas for another?

I toss the new idea around in my head for a bit, to see if it has any worth. If it does, then I write it down somewhere and work on it for a bit before I lose my strong feelings to write it. But I keep my main focus on my current fic.

Then again, I don't actually focus on one fic at a time. Just yesterday alone I worked on two multi-chapter fics and wrote four one-shots.

Also, it's "lose", not "loose".

While writing, have you ever been hit with the sudden realization, "Woah, I'm controlling a Mini-Universe!"?

Not really. I don't control my characters. I act more like a god who writes down what they do. I sit back, watch to see how my characters make it through whatever situation I find them in, then write it down. Sometimes I might poke them to get a certain result, but generally I don't control them in any way.

When writing NE, I piratically have to deal with anime and game canon contradictions, so I thought about how I want the universe to be like first and then I have the characters figure out what the eff I was smoking :P beat the obstacles I have for them. With Heart of the Sea, it's easier because I don't deal with game or anime references that much like NE.

What do you do if you lose interest in your current fic and have ideas for another?
I usually try to have the ideas fit in one story, but if that doesn't work I would go ahead and do that other story. That works because usually the other ideas I get fit for one shots. The only time where I was going though both chaptered fics is when I was doing NE and Destiny's Tricks. However, I lost interest in Destiny's Tricks right away while at the same time got new ideas for NE.

As for the mini question about what happened to your first fic...I'm rewriting Heart of the Sea right now. :P

Oooh, man, how many times has that happened now? Three bajillion?

Ditch, or at least for a little bit. I can't write without interest.

Anyway, that leads me onto this.

How are you driven to write? Content-driven, inspiration-driven, or do you just want to torture your characters?
I can't write without inspiration or a plot to write with. That's generally what happens. I need something to inspire me.

Going back to a couple questions I want to answer but didn't because of midterms…

In what form do you visualize fanfiction? Anime, live-action, 3D, or something different altogether?

When writing out a Pokémon battle, do you take inspiration from the games, any of the manga, the anime, and/or put your own spin on it entirely?
These questions I'll kill two Starly with one stone. :P

With my Pokemon fics, I visualize it as an anime because half the time whenever I think about how the Pokemon and attacks will go, it would end up the way the anime does it. I can't imagine the events happening be the same like Avatar. XD

As for how I do the battles, I mostly go with anime because I think the show does better at representing how the attacks look like instead of the games. I would go to Bulbapedia to double check how the attacks are like. There might be a few times I put a different spin to the attacks if I feel the anime didn't do it too well or there are different representations, though.

Content and inspiration driven. Usually I get excited if I thought the content of my fic will be cool and also I get many ideas from being inspired.

Usually, I'd just drop it. But, that not being the case --I'm still interested in NG-137-- I write it down somewhere and start it later. Or else, I try to integrate it into the current fic.

Inspiration driven. I doubt I'd be writing at all if it weren't for the constant stream of inspiration that gets knocked into the front of my mind out from the eternal chaos of the deep subconscious.

Another Bold topic!
In regards to writing fiction --only fiction, would you rather lose your creativity or your grammar skills? Assuming they were of equal value and it only applies to fiction writing.

I suppose one could clear the search history, but some people either forget or don't know how to. And yeah, I know what you mean. Twas humorous though...

That's a tough one, but since it only applies to writing, I'd have to go with creativity. At least with grammar I can still write a story, even if it's a boring one. With only creatively, there's really no point of writing if no one can read it.

Curiosity-driven. I'm a collector of stories, and with my characters, I "picked" interesting characters that I want to watch and see how their lives act out.

In the case of one canon character, my main reason to write is to get to know him better.

Grammar. *ducks* I've already pretty much have imperfect grammar with my writing style, where I tend to abuse the poor comma and combine way too many sentences. But I like the writing and how different it is.

Grammar, definitely. I can go back and re-learn my grammatical skills later, and my stories might even improve if I learned to put narration in a more formal manner. I can't, however, go and learn how to churn out such crazy creative fodder. It just doesn't work that way.

What little I have: Grammar, like everybody else.

Apparently I'm with the majority so far. :D
You can't relearn Creativity. So I choose to dump Grammar.

In other news, I managed to write 2000 words today. Hooray me! :D

*DEFIES YOUR QUESTION* I'll never give up either! NEVER! You can torture me until my toes fall off and my head splits, but I'll never give up my grammar skills or my creativittttyyyy! >:C

I have a question...

Is it fictional-canon-taboo to claim that "Starter" Pokemon and their evos can be caught in the wild?

I would think not, I mean Ash has caught just about every starter in the wild. I know that Cyndaquill was completely wild. Bulbasaur lived with humans, so I would not call that 100% wild.

Imo, starters are used for beginning Pokemon because they are hearty Pokemon who can take the abuse that a new trainer will deal them accidentally. (not realizing a Pokemon is poised or something of the sort.) Although rare, they are probably the easiest to come by than others who are as tough.

Take away my grammar skills, please. I learned English as my second language once, so I can certainly do it again. :p Beside, there are guides and lesson on grammar, but creativity isn't something you can necessarily learn.

I guess it depends on what you're basing your fan fic on: the games or the anime. In the anime, there have been Bulbsaur, Ivysaur, Vensaur, Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise, and so on seen in the wild. In the games, though, the only way to obtain Starter Pokemon is through the game's professor, breeding, or trading. The credibility of your claim or the likelihood of finding the starters in the wild will depend on what universe you choose. Some people, when they read a fan fic, automatically think of one or the other, so it's always better to specify rather than risk geting comments like, "Why did he catch a (insert Starter Pokemon here) if they are so rare?" 'Course, some people won't be satisfy by any explanation, and for that, just go along with your own judgment.

Often. It's somewhat difficult to avoid, at least for me.

The quality of this post is astounding.

They may take our grammar/creativity, but they will never take our GRAMMAR/CREATIVITY![/melgibson]

I have a question...

Pretty much what Phantom Kat said. Wild "starter" Pokemon being found in the wild depends on what canon you're following. In the anime, according to the episode "A Mudkip Mission", starter Pokemon are generally bred by specialized breeders, but I think there's an instance of a wild Ivysaur running around that's caught by my second favorite human character. (Unfortunately, I tend to like the unknown characters, so I don't have a copy of his episode on hand.) And isn't there an island of wild Wartortle?

So it really depends on what canon you're following. If following the main game canon, then there are no wild starters at all. If following the anime, then go for it.

Hmmm a bit of a stupid question, as it probably comes more for preference than any sort of story element (seeing as it would all be read at the time anyway), but I was wondering what order I should have for the 'present' portion of my fic. That is to say, there will be two settings in the scene. One will be of Ash and the bad guys (enter plot elements that would explain the reasoning for the capture). The other scene is his friends wondering where he is, with an [inevitable] encounter with Team Rocket, then they head forth etc.

So far I've been writing it with Ash's friends as beginning off the present timeline. In my previous chapter, I ended on Ash being captured. The subsequent chapter being in the past again.

Any thoughts?

I am writing it now, which to me is pretty shocking, as I never feel in the mood to do so. XD

Thanks for your answers, folks-- I think that gives me an idea. *toddles off to brainstorm*
