Favorite NPC Trainer Classes

So, as you might know, there's a trainer protagonist poll going on, and there's been plenty of debate on the best Gym Leader, Elite Four member, Champion, team leader, etc. This isn't about them.

Instead, what about those unsung heroes of Pokemon games - the NPC trainers hanging out on routes and in caves? What are some of your favorites? Feel free to differentiate between different games/gens since the NPCs certainly do.

As for me:

5th gen Lady

Sinnoh Lass

4th gen Picnicker

3rd gen School Kid (girl)

Cannot think of too many.

• Medium for the goofy sprite in Generation 2.

Most of the Gen 3 sprites, especially the Hiker.

There are a lot of trainer classes I love based on their designs.

Gen 3 and 4 Ace Trainer.

Gens 3-6 Ranger Class.

Gens 5-6 Veteran Class.

Gens 3 and 6 Hex Maniac.

Gens 5 & 7 Dancer class.

Gen 3 breeder class.

And of course the clown (Harlequin) class from gen 5.

Probably the most weirdest trainer class is probably the rocker class from gen 3. What is this guy doing with those cables? What exactly makes him a rocker?

5th gen Lady as well! Love the sprite so much, she is so elegant.

I recently realized how iconic the 2nd gen Beauty is, too. Gorgeous pose and the colors work so well. Love it!

Oh, and I can't forget the 4th gen Lady either!! So much my style ~

I like the Aroma Lady from Sinnoh. Back when I first played Showdown, I had one of them as my trainer sprite.

I immediately think of XY's Hex Maniac because I like girls and ghost is my favourite type, but that feels like a kinda basic answer...

I've always considered my favourite to be DPPt's Lady:

but I've also always loved ORAS's Swimmer:

But of course, Platinum has maids and idols and obviously I love both of those as well.

Lorekeeper. While Zinnia is the only trainer you can battle of the Lorekeeper class, and she is not just an ordinary npc, but a pivotal character in the Delta episode, it is still technically a trainer class she is named as belonging to, and we know that she is not the only person in this ancient dragon pokemon-worshipping cult, it is suggested that there others that she learned from.


The Fairy Tale girl, I shouldn't like her since I am a dragon, and she is always toting fairies, but I like legend, myths, fables, and well, fairy tales, and she looks like a princess out of a storybook, one who has fallen under a spell with those big dreamy eyes. Some say this character is creepy, but I don't see it that way, I see a little blonde girl with a Sylveon pattern. She also seems awfully polite, is literally doing a curtsy to you.


Kimono girls. I think they look very dignified, and I like how each one is linked to a particular eeveelution. I enjoy the geisha teahouse ambiance of the dance theater where you can encounter them in, and I appreciated their increased role in HGSS with additional counters that increased the mystery around them, and the greater importance of their dance had for the story.


Channelers from Kanto, specifically the gen 1 channeler. I think the stancs she poses in looks the best. I am told that the hex maniac is meant to be the replacement of channelers, I prefer channelers tho. Hex maniacs are kinda fun, a goth girl with a voodoo doll, but the channelers intrigue me more because they seem to represent something sacred and powerful they are dressed like priestesses or Shinto shrine maids.

For me it's the sprite of Red from Pokemon Crystal. It's a very special battle.
