Favourite regional birds?

Every generation of Pokémon so far has had a first-route Flying-type that is often caught by beginning trainers. Which is your favourite of the regional birdies?

Staraptor since it's now the best regional bird in terms of competitive viability. Having a way to hit Rock and Steel Types outside of Steel Wing is nice. Reckless Choice Band Double Edge is underrated. Swellow and Toucannon are honorable mentions.

    Staraptor>Toucannon>Swellow>Unfezant>Talonflame>Noctowl>>>Dodrio Lite aka Pidgeot

    I think atm:
    1) Tie between Talonflame/Pidgeot. Both are good Pokemon.
    3) Corviknight. Cool metal birb that kicks butt.
    4) Unfezant. Good Pokemon, if you know how to use it.
    5) Swellow. Using one atm and it's just kicking butt. It's not even a Guts one either.
    6) Staraptor. Cool design, just never really used it all that much. Not as likeable to me as the ones above.
    7) Toucannon. Strong Pokemon, but just so dang slow... for a birb.

    8) Kilowattrel. Kinda just feels like gen 9 swellow to me. Never used it. Nice typing though.
    9) Noctowl. I don't dislike it, but it's been forever since I used one. Kinda like Kilowattrel's design more.

    • Fletchinder: Simply likes the design. Has nice colors.
    • Corviknight: A big armored bird. Wishes for more color. Feels a little blah at times. Likes the idea of it perhaps more than the execution. Trashed everything in the first playthrough of Sword.
    • Staraptor: Pretty much entirely for being amazing in the first playthrough of Diamond.
    • Noctowl: Likes owls. Was not very strong in its debut generation, but oh well.
    • Swellow: Used one in Hoenn. Handled pretty well. Decent colors too.
    • Toucannon: Likes the big, colorful beak. Enjoys the contrasting grumpy look.
    • Pidgeot: Eh. Is not a fan of the plumage. Does not really fit (much like female Pyroar, in thinking about it, but not as bad as that).
    • Unfezant: Super dull, if female. Middling on the male design.
    • Squawkabilly: Disapproves of the hair. Looks so out of place.

Complicated: Talonflame. Downgraded from Fletchinder in design. Hates the red spots. Performed really badly in the first playthrough of its generation too. Had poor Fire moves if you dislike it fainting to recoil. (Hid Flare Blitz behind the move relearner, which you might not have thought to check.) Combine that with bad stats and a probably bad nature, and yeah. Feels somewhat attached it to it because of it being the breeding Pokemon. Used it more than any other Pokemon by a huge margin, in terms of gameplay hours, due to all the breeding.

Corviknight, Swellow, Staraptor, and Talonflame are the best bird mons for me. Staraptor being my favorite without contest. Kilowattrel and Toucannon were decent enough but not as good as the 4 before it. Pidgeot, Noctowl, and Unfezant just suck in my opinion. Not just in their debut generation, but as the games progressed it seems they couldn't keep up. Noctowl at least has a good movepool but it lacks the stats to put it to use and Xatu is way better.

No doubts here: The kamikaze bird.

Great in-game Pokémon from start to end. Very easy to find, very easy to raise, learns good moves quite fast. Learns Close Combat when it evolves, and gets Brave Bird before the E4. Could also hit like a truck with Return in older games. Also guaranteed to have Intimidate.

Amazing stat distribution. Tired of those indecisive regional birds with like 10 points of difference between their Attack and Special Attack. Well, look no further, this guy cares about two things: Attack and Speed, he knows what he wants to be. How do you build Staraptor? just look at those stats and move pool and you don't need to be Einstein to know how to make this guy work.

Look at that face. He's not messing around, he's not here to make friends. He's here to smash that head against things and hit fast and hard with barbarian tactics. One-shot or get one-shot, that is Staraptor's way.

I think Toucannon is my favorite because sun and moon were the games that got me back into Pokémon! I also love how its beak lights up like a rainbow when it attacks (unless I'm misremembering that) and how grumpy it looks.

The only 2 that I've never used are Noctowl and Kilowattrel. Not sure why I've never used Noctowl—love Johto and Noctowl's design. I decided not to do a regional bird for my Violet play throughs because I wanted a change of pace though.

I don't love any of the lines as a whole, but Pidgeotto is pretty cool. I also enjoy Hoothoot for the nostalgia factor, being one of the promotional Gen. II 'mon.

In terms of fully-evolved birds, I'd probably have to go with Talonflame since it's the closest thing we've got to a non-Legendary phoenix (my favorite mythological creature).

Toucannon is my favorite! It's the only one I have used on an in-game team. It has 2 great abilities in Skill Link and Sheer Force, and Beak Blast has a cool, unique mechanic where it burns anything that makes contact with it before it executes the attack. Its shiny form is really nice as well. (I have a shiny Pikipek that I should really evolve tbh)

I have a personal draw to Staraptor. The design just screams "if you look at me wrong, i will dive bomb your face."
It has fantastic coverage, Intimidates on switch-in, and a very distinct Pokémon cry.

I actually really like Pelipper, there's something silly yet clean about its design and a Water/Flying regional bird is nice. Swellow is technically the bird but let's be real who are you seeing for 90% of the game Pelipper or Swellow?
Unfezant also deserves more credit it's not at all unique in terms of stats but it's a very nice design even if it's a bit too realistic for Pokemon and I like the sexual dimorphism.
