Forum Games and Pokémon Trivia

These are two sections that are mostly unproductive posts after unproductive posts, although with Pokémon Trivia sometimes they're more formal. For a while, they used to not count towards your post count at all, and understandably so - because most of the time the posts were little beyond spam, although eventually the no post count thing was removed. Many forums out there have boards like this, some of which let the post count go up with it, others don't. Even before then we had quite a few people who were insanely active in those two forums, and some that still are today.

How active in these two forums do you tend to be? Do you go on mad posting sprees in them? Do you try not to spend too much time in them? Or do you avoid them completely because you don't think they're very productive (if at all)? Discuss.

I find them productive actually. It's a fun place to hang out and just relax while at the same time being creative. Just because they aren't sections that require lengthy posts don't require a lot of thinking to say doesn't mean it's an unproductive or spammy forum.

Anyways, I post in PT a lot nowadays. I probably have over 1000 posts there in the past month or so and that is because I keep coming back to post all day long! Not because I want more posts but because I genuinely enjoy the forum and playing the games [: Try out PT if you haven't, it's a blast!

I absolutely adore Pokemon Trivia and have for ages. It's a cute forum with a lot of fun games encompassing my favorite franchise so a good chunk of my forum time is spent there.. I have at least 1,000+ posts in the section by now. Hardly ever check Forum Games since it can't seem to keep my interest as much as PT but overall these two places are fun even if PT is the only cup of tea for me out of these two. Not that Forum Games is bad but it just doesn't reel me in as much (though I do love some of the game ideas there).

To me they're great ways to kick back and take a breather from more discussion-heavy topics. There are times I enjoy not needing to think very much and just have a good time posting with others, especially on certain days after work when I'm more mentally-exhausted.

I actually avoided those two places for years because of the exact thought of "eh, spam." But then I decided to venture into there because "why not?" and...okay, still not anywhere near the biggest poster in either, but there is something about just going into there and finding a game to post in. It's fun. I will take fun. :>

And when I say not the biggest poster, I'm talking I maybe have like a handful of posts per day in each forum at the most. Still more than I used to post in there, ah ha.

My activity in those sections have dwindled lately, since I still can't recall the last time I even posted in Pokemon Trivia. But maybe I guess I was trying to focus on other areas for the time being, but I have actually been considering getting active in Pokemon Trivia again thanks to the new fresh air that has been brought to the section thanks to Squirrel on becoming the first new mod for the section in what has been close to 5 years.

well I generally just visit FG (never Pokemon Trivia) and occasionally post in a few of the threads. but as for recent events? all I can say is:

I find myself being active at Pokémon Trivia nowadays, even though initially I just want to post there to make sure that I'm active while I'm busy working as a video editor for months. However, I'm starting to enjoy it a lot because it's enjoyable.

Meanwhile, I find myself away from the Forum Games lately, I have no idea being busy at video work makes me forgot some sections that I used to active at.

I usually post two to five times a day in Forum Games in two specific threads: DLTMS0 and TCTI. They're basically chat threads, but we have some pretty fun or even intellectual conversations there. when it's not just mindless random junk

Some staff go on there a lot too. In fact, it's mostly PC oldies.

I don't go to Trivia, so I don't really have anything to say about that.

I used to post in Pokemon Trivia, it's kind of fun. :P I don't find any of the Forum Games particularly entertaining though, it's looks like it's just a lot of counting and rating and that's not my idea of fun, lol. I get that it's more about the chatting, but I'd prefer using something like Skype for that instead of FG, personally.

I've been there a lot more since Mafia games have been a thing though! Those I find a lot more interesting.

Having been an active user of Forum Games for roughly 6 years (and having been in and out of Other Chat and OVP and their successors over the years), I can tell you that it wasn't really any spammier than OVP or Other Chat. The 4/25 helped keep post quality up quite a bit, and now people deliberately stay above the now eliminated 4/25 rule most of the time by choice.

Granted, it's not like there weren't ways in the past to pull spammy shenanigans (my spamming methods in The One Above in 2010 are part of the reason that copy/paste replies are no longer allowed in there, haha), but generally people had to talk with each other to reach the minimum character limit.

It's also not all counting games and rating games. There have been a few creative games in the past.

So we have a good mix of people that enjoy them a lot but some that don't really care for it. Myself, I try not to make it a diehard habit on the forum - at least not to the point where a massive majority of my posts are in those sections, but there are days where i'll make a burst of posts in one of them. Sometimes they'll take up half my posts in one day (usually when I feel really lazy to post in other areas), others so much as 1/4 or even 1/6. I just don't want my post count to look too lazy. (No offense to people who spend most of their time there, though.)

I used to be hella active years ago, but that was before I quit uni for a bit. Only time I'll probably be in that section now will be during uni breaks since I can barely stay on PC long during Uni like now.

well now that The Underground is active, I'm sure that's where I'll be spending half my time here on PC, haha

I'm very active there. It's like a fun place to be and let down your hair. Anyone who thinks that those two boards are "unproductive" clearly need to get out of their shell and spend some time in them. Some of the games require more thinking of them to be deemed as "mindless spam" (e.g. Mafia, plus there have been more innovative games in PT as of late).
