I am all for animal based pokemon, but I really wish they would show something that really isn't an animal. We haven't gotten any plants, ghosts, objects or anything. Other than Topu Koko and Magerena.

If there seriously really is only 90 new pokemon, which would be dumb, based on 'leaks', we have already seen or know over a third of the pokemon.

A third of what could be 90 new Pokemon? We've already been getting a lot of new Pokemon this month and it's likely we may be getting more by this time next week. It's insane how it was only two months ago we had the starters and mascots revealed and now we've been getting huge info dumps like everywhere.

It kinda does worry me a little bit about too much being revealed, to be honest. Counting all of Zygarde's Formes, I've counted 24 Pokemon on the SM website. Amoung that 24 is the complete evolution line of Grubbin. That's a butt-ton of Pokemon within a short period of time if you ask me.

I'm certain that whatever we're getting next week between CoroCoro, Pokenchi, and whatever the Japanese website was talking about for the 16th is all going to be a repeat of what we've already gotten this month. But still, I think there is a very small chance we might get a little bit more, it's hard to say.

Why would the Japanese website go over what it already has? Unless if it's to reveal new info about what we already know, like a bit more lore to Tapu Koko and what not.

90 new Pokemon definitely seems plausible at this stage considering how many have already been revealed. It would take the total up to 811 but I do think 90 is a nice amount for a new generation.

Well in the lead up to X&Y I think we had 45 out of the 72 Pokemon revealed before release. So it seems likely that we'll know over half of the new Pokemon by the time these games are released.

If getting 8 new Pokemon in one month is any indication of what we're going to see going forward, I could see us getting 100+ new Pokemon. I think it'll depend on how many Pokemon we get in the next update, will it be another big amount or will the amount of new Pokemon go down in favour of news for other things like gym leaders or evil teams? (or whatever the new diamond stone mechanic is)

90 seems kind of low to me, if I'm going to be really honest. How many did Kalos introduce? Around 72? And that was crazy low to me...I'd be okay with probably about 100 at the lowest but I don't see why GF needs to go any lower than that. .__.

I think Game Freak wanted to focus on developing other features and wanted to cut back on the number of new Pokemon as a result, and I think it's definitely a case of quality over quantity since I think the 6th Gen Pokemon had decently well-thought designs, and it appears 7th Gen is going down the well-thought designs route as well.

90 also isn't too low but not too high either, it's like in the middle of what this generation needs in regards to new Pokemon.

Anyways, it's already the 11th for me so CoroCoro should leak soon, if not a day later.

90 is also low for me. I don't like fewer than 100 pokemon period, even if 10 mroe are legends, I would rather have 100 than 90.

But yeah, Corocoro should leak soon. Hopefully 1 or 2 new pokemon and then features and the Evil team. Still waiting on screenshots. Would love to see what the top of the mountain looks like on big island.

If only Unova had introduced 130 and Kalos had introduced 90 Pokemon, then I would be more confident on the kinds of numbers to expect. Gen V and VI were extremes imo, hopefully we'll get the average of 110 or so for Gen VII.

New Pokemon rosters' total numbers by generation if anyone's wondering, with the total number of Pokemon altogether in brackets:

1st Gen (Kanto) - 151 (151)
2nd Gen (Johto) - 100 (251)
3rd Gen (Hoenn) - 135 (386)
4th Gen (Sinnoh) - 107 (493)
5th Gen (Unova) - 156 (649)
6th Gen (Kalos) - 72 (721)

If the rumored 90 new Pokemon for 7th Gen in that latest leak is true, then that will take the total number of Pokemon altogether to 811.

I dunno about that. Every odd numbered generation typically has more than 100 Pokemon as we've seen, and every even numbered generation introduced ~100 or less than that in Kalos' case. I'd be pretty surprised if they changed course on this.

That's what I'm hoping for, and why I think that SM could end up with 110ish new Pokemon.

Someone earlier mentioned legends. Legends and mythicals made a pretty decent chuck of DP's new Pokemon, not counting them gets one a number pretty close to Johto's 100 (yes counting Johto's legends and Celebi, without them it's 94). It's pretty interesting how Kalos mythicals plus legends also added up to six like Johto's, plus Gen VI was nearly as long as Gen II...

It's hard to call with this one. Considering how they already have the 721 sprites from X/Y, that gives them plenty more free time to either spend on making the storyline work or adding a higher amount of new Pokemon. From the trailers/screenshots it appears they are reusing most of the sprites and animations from X/Y indicating that they don't have to spend anywhere near as much time dedicated to that part of the game. That would definitely support a higher number of Pokemon but as others have said, it is coming to a point now where the total number is becoming exceedingly high?

Considering the 5th gen is one of my favourite for Pokemon designs I can never buy into the whole "quality over quantity" argument at all. Sure in theory it makes sense but in practice it hasn't been the case for me at all. So I have to say it's more than a little jarring when people keep rabbiting on about quality over quantity when it's largely meaningless to me as a concept....at least in regards to Pokemon.

It doesn't seem like an even remotely good argument for having less new Pokemon to me. :/

That's just my take on it anyway.

I'm not sure I follow, here. Since when is the acutal number of Pokemon introduced becoming a legitimate concern? The most Pokemon that we've ever had added to a generation was Unova, and is it really unreasonble to add around anywhere between 100-130 new Pokemon, perhaps? I think that's a rather reasonable amount to expect given the apparent "trends" of the generations. Even if the total amount added was 90, as suggested by the leak, which would bring the amount to 811 (not counting additional legendaries that may be introduced afterwards to expand upon this), isn't this in itself exceedingly high, or is that the very point you were making?

The way I see it is that the question of whether or not a total number of Pokemon added to a generation became too much kind of went out the window as soon as Gen V was a thing, and even before that with Gen III. Even if, by some low chance we've gotten something that would be perceived as extraordinarily high, such as say, 150-170, this still wouldn't be a problem in my eyes, because that means that much more Pokemon to explore and capture in the region, right?

I was actually talking about the total number of Pokemon of all the generations becoming exceedingy high, not just for one single generation. I would like to see a higher amount of new Pokemon introduced this time around, a figure of 90 or even 100 would be a good thing. The main reason why I wouldn't expect the total number to be as high as the likes of Unova is because of the drastic decrease of new Pokemon Kalos introduced. Not only that but it seems as though Alola will consist of past generarion Pokemon to make up some of the Pokedex, similarly to how Kalos did?

I do have a good feeling that we will see a higher number of Pokemon than we did in X/Y, but in my way of thinking it could be a little lower than previous gens due to the fact that we are edging closer to a figure of 800. I don't have anything against a large amount, Hoenn and Unova are the two Regions that brought about the highest number of new Pokemon which both happened to have the most unique and creative designs imo.

Ah, fair enough point. I just...generally feel really mixed about the whole "bringing in some of the old Pokedex to make up for the new Pokemon deficit" logic that GameFreak followed in X/Y. As I mentioned previously, I have no issues with old Pokemon being present, but not to such an extent that it comprises of most of the Pokedex, y'know?

Yeah, at most it should be half like with B2W2 having half Gen V and half pre-Gen V. I think Hoenn had a good mix ~ new Pokemon and around 70 old Pokemon return...haha, Seventy, the same number of new Pokemon in the Kalos dex...

Anyways, I think the trailer coming out on Saturday might cover the news that CoroCoro reveals the day before, assuming if CoroCoro does share S/M-related news that is. Pokenchi will likely just be another recap again.

" It has been confirmed that next month's issue of CoroCoro, due for release on August 12th, will have a special "Southern Island Alola Guide" which is said to give all the important information that you need for your journey."

Now this should be interesting. We haven't really had all that much detail on any of the other islands yet, I'm hoping we can get a better understanding of how they are made up and what Pokemon can be found on them.

Key word being "important information" in that...I hope it's going to be important, anyway. Probably something plot-related, would be my guess?

I'm thinking that too, possibly the evil team because I remember the Galactic Commander Mars being revealed in August for DP. We might also get a couple Gym Leaders and a tidbit about the new mechanic with the bracelets. It's also interesting that they're putting emphasis on the southern island, which would be the Big Island.

It says Southern Islands, I wonder if I am correct and there is indeed one other island to the south of Alola. Most islands have a spot from hawaii, but one island was missing in the Alola map, if you count the cloud veiled one that was in the northeast.

This island is the long island and would go perfectly to the south of Alola to complete the circle. Or whatever shape you want to call it. But it would completely surrond the artificial island if the long island is to the south.

Anyway, according to what I have seen June 16th did not have anything at all and it looks like we only got the 2 new pokemon from Corocoro.

I have a feeling we might be hitting a slow new period soon, other than with Corocoro and the trailers we get sometimes. Maybe sometime at the Worlds, but I have no idea when those are.
