Genwunners?

Indifference. Cannot help what you like. Feels a bit sad they do not enjoy the newer games, though.

I agree with Devalue. I love Generation III in part because I get to experience the original Kanto games with mechanics that aren't bugged out the wazoo (on top of my nostalgia for Sapphire). That said, there's nothing wrong with only liking the original 151 Pokémon as long as they're not harassing people over liking games that came out later. I'm not sure how the terms Genwunner, Johtoddler, Hoennbaby, and Sinnohfetus came about, but I hope we move past the need to shame people for preferring a certain era of the games (though I do describe myself as a Hoennbaby because it and especially Sinnohfetus are hilariously over-the-top childish insults). Sometimes I don't try more obscure RPGs (or games in general) because it would be a bit out of my comfort zone, and of course, there's nothing wrong with wanting to get out of one's comfort zone and try something new, but video games really should be about having fun. I'm sorry if this came off as me preaching; I have some very strong opinions on the subject.

Excuse me, WHAT

this is the most hilarious bunch of names I've come across in a long time - I didn't even know these were a part of actual internet lingo among pokémon fans

Sinnoh fetus ??
I'm dead

I don't think I've ever met a Genwunner now that I think about it, and I don't mean in real life. The closest thing to an honest Genwunner I've ever seen was the Honest Game Trailers videos that say only Gen I and II were good, and everything after that sucked. I tipped my hat in regards to the Gen III video because there were good jokes, but by the time they got to Gen V, it was super obvious they weren't doing it out of love or because they had funny material. Aside from that, I've only ever talked to people who were either A) respectful about only liking old Pokémon games or B) liked another older generation in addition to Gen I. I think this "Genwunner" term might be a relic from a very different time.

My sister's boyfriend is a Genwunner, but I really don't care if you are a Genwunner as long as you aren't rude and outright saying everything beyond Kanto is bad for no apparent reason. You can like what you want, but you don't have to be rude and think everyone else opinion should be your own and try to force it on someone or attack someone for liking something else.

However, I've seen a large amount online. But they've faded over the last few years with the constant Kanto stuff going on. It also seemed like it died down after Virtual Console came out and people realized how bad the games used to be.

I know some people who like gen 1 the best and stopped playing the games around then but they're never obnoxious about it or anything?? Not sure I've ever seen that, especially lately. Thank goodness. I like Kanto as much as the next person but it doesn't bother me as long as people stay respectful like others said.

As long as they aren't toxic about it they can like whatever the heck they want imo.

Imo you're missing out on a lot of good mons if you restrict yourself to any single generation.

I don't really care what they do, as long as they don't decide to be toxic or enforce their opinion as an objective fact.

I only grew up with gen 4 and gen 5 and they were the most hated because of the designs. And only play black and diamond and platinum and that's it.

They're okay as long as they don't force their opinions onto others. Everyone has their favorite gen and for some people it's the first. Honestly I think people overestimate the influence of genwunners these days. They haven't been a major part of the online fandom since like 2014

As someone who played since Gen1, I suppose I fit into this category a bit. The first two generations were my favorite to play. I'm sure a lot of that is nostalgia and having played them when they first came out. They were brand new and, at the time, seemed like the best thing that could ever be made. Even as I continued to play the main storylines through later generations [I stopped prior to the Switch games], I never found myself enjoying any of them as much as I did the originals.

That being said, I can see the quality of life updates that have been implemented in each generation. Some I think have been really good for the games, some not so much, but I can understand people enjoying the newer ones more as well, especially if they don't have the fog of nostalgia hovering over them. I think many people who played the old gens feel the same, but as others have posted here, so long as they're not belittling you for liking what you like, I don't see a problem with them.

the only games i own and lost is gen 4 and 5 not six so im not a genwunner and hate genwunners and i hate digimon

I may be called a "Genwunner" but I don't get toxic about it. I haaaaaaate that. Like, I get it that the original 151 is the best and nothing can top them but I still like other generations like Gen 2 and Gen 5.

I do agree with @CabaiaJ that there is a lot of nostalgia and having played the games when they first came out. I remember that way when I was gifted a Game Boy with Red. THat was one of the big highlights of my childhood. While I will always cherish the moment, I still have some love to the generations after Gen 1.

Plus, if you're only sticking with the original 151 and say screw all other gens --- you're not really a true pokefan AT ALL.

I see nothing wrong with genwunners. No matter what, things change in life, including brand identity so their behaviour is justified

There's a huge difference between a Genwunner and someone who's favourite gen is the first one.
Genwunners are people who literally say "any Pokemon past the first gen isn't a Pokemon" or something like "only the original 151 Pokemon are real, everything else is a Digimon, etc." or literally trash any new Pokemon for a reason that's it's not from the first gen. It's more of an extreme view of a Gen 1 fan. However, Gen 1 fans aren't like this, they acknowledge the other gens of Pokemon but say Gen 1 is their favourite due to reasons like nostalgia, simple designs, or whatever. While people can have their opinions and enjoy what they want, I do feel Genwunners are stubborn about this opinion and hard to talk with about Pokemon, which is why I rarely bring up Pokemon when chatting with them :coolrim:.

I almost never see this attitude anymore.

With so many different generations and many new fans growing up with different preferences, it's caused a large divide. (not in a bad way).

Rather than Gen 5 existing and the only set of older fans had been the ones who had grown up with Gen 1. Pokemon has been around longer now and the fanbase is getting too widespread to have one extremely vocal group such as that.
