PC: Get-Together 2024

Get-Together 2024

Every four years, the "evil teams" of the Pokemon world gather together in one place. There they engage in an assortment of activities and games, each designed to hone their talents and refine their skills in order to strike down their enemies and defeat the children that keep foiling their schemes. At least, that's what the Villain Olympics says in its brochure. Anyone who has actually been to one of the events knows its really just an excuse for a bunch of washed up teams to mess around.

Except for the bitter rivals of Team Aqua and Team Magma. They would be horribly offended if you told them this was just messing about. No! This is deeply important. With both their plans thoroughly unravelled and Hoenn's landscape remaining completely unchanged, the Villain Olympics remains the only forum for Aqua and Magma to compete and determine which one of them is truly the superior team. Never mind that neither group has ever actually won the Olympics.

This year, the various nefarious organisations that compete in this "prestigious" event find themselves arriving in the Kalos region where hosts Team Flare await with smug smirks, suave suits and a desire to watch the world burn they've never been able to realise. The stage has been set for the next chapter in Team Aqua and Team Magma's never-ending rivalry. Who will come on top? Will a Hoenn team finally win the Villain Olympics? Why are the police allowing this to happen?

What Is This?

The Get-Together - GT in short - is a huge annual event we hold across PokeCommunity. Everyone comes together on the forums and in the PC Discord to enjoy two weeks of hanging out, various events and games and even a little friendly competition. It's a great way to spend time with friends new and old while celebrating our shared community. Typically, each GT has a theme and/or lore. This year, we're embracing the upcoming real world Olympics by setting Pokemons various villainous teams against each other in our very own Villain Olympics. As a participant, you will be a member of either Team Aqua or Team Magma competing for those delicious bragging rights. Keep an eye out though, some of the other villainous teams from across the franchise might also make an appearance.

This year the Get-Together will be running from July 14 until July 28.

Events and Event Organisers

With the GT being such a huge event, made up of numerous mini-events, competitions and games, each year the GT Management Team asks you guys to help us out by putting together some of these and running them. The people who volunteer for this role are what we call Event Organisers (EOs). Event Organisers are given access to a special planning section where they can figure out the specifics of their events and put them together. To volunteer to be an Event Organiser, simply comment below with the general gist of the event or events you would like to run and let us know who, if anyone, will be running them with you. The Management Team will look over the submissions and approve them as quickly as we can. As always, we greatly appreciate everyone who helps out with the Get-Together and look forward to seeing a nice mix of daily, shortform and longform events.

All event submissions need to be completed by June 30 to allow plenty of time for approval and set-up.

I would like to run Pokemon Trivia, Video Game Trivia and the Writing Competition with similar rules to last year if possible.

Plans to run the same events as last year.

1. Mind Read the Room. Answer some Pokemon-related questions. Earn points based on how you think others answered.

May not have as many questions as last year. Becomes harder and harder to think up questions every year. Should be able to pull together one round, at minimum.

2. PokeCommunity Stadium 2. Asks players to create a team of Pokemon Stadium 2 rental Pokemon. Pits these teams against trainers from Pokemon Stadium 2. Will not let players battle the trainers directly, however. Selects all the moves semi-randomly. Carries out the battles in Pokemon Showdown. Does not require the players to use Pokemon Showdown at all.
______

Should actually be available, barring any more unforeseen surprises.

I wouldn't mind helping with the art swap this year! And I'd also like to be a judge if we end up doing any art contests! Also, don't know if this should be put in this thread or not, but i plan on maybe doing some of the art streams in the discord if I have time for them.

Typically I run the SWC with bobandbill and Bay, but I'd be okay with having you involved if they are. You might want to talk to Arcaneum about the trivia stuff too because that has been his baby for years.

Damn, has it been a year already? >_<

I would be up for taking Pokémon Movie Night and Egg Swap again.

I think the latter will be quiet based on last year, but if we run it as a slow burn through the whole GT we should get some participation. Plus, I'd actually be able to join this time!

I will host 1) Bingo again, and I am reworking Escape Room into a different form of game, but it'll retain the puzzles and riddles and stuff - calling it 2) The Hideout for now. I hope the changes somewhat alleviate the issue of teams needing me to be online for them to make progress :)

I'll get back to you about VGT in terms of co-hosting; Pokémon Trivia preparation is kinda already underway between myself and 5qwerty, so just confirming what is happening there!
Gonna host Gartic and possibly the FF14 glam event if no one else will do it.

(prolly no Jack in the Box this year for me, sorry!)
I can co-host the glam event if you want to!

In terms of events I'm planning on hosting:

Video Games Trivia
Video Games Music Trivia
Pokémon Trivia (with 5qwerty)
Create-a-Pokémon (ideally want 2 people to help with this one, primarily as judges but also themes etc!)
Jackbox (a co-host would be nice to help cover timezones)
DJ Battles

Just responding to say that am happy for you to help co-host for both trivia events, if that's ok with you just let me know (mostly so we can get you in the loop for pokemon trivia!)

That's OK with me.

Hi, this will be one hectic month for me, hopefully more time next month... I'd like to do something relatively easier to organize as my first.
An event I thought would be great to try things out is a Pokemon GO event:
- Longform event: Participants sign up with a screenshot of their profile page, points are calculated from the change of numbers between the start and end of the event: distance walked and pokemon caught
- Daily event: A Pokemon is chosen at random, participants can earn personal points by catching the biggest/smallest/heaviest/lightest of that species during that day.
- Achievements: Team points given for meeting thresholds: x km walked, x pokemon caught, x exp earned, x pokestops spun, taking part every day.

I've never done an event before so this'll be a test run.
I'm also willing to help with other events that require minimal attention during the GT but somehow noone else is willing to organize, I have a few of these on my list so may make another post later

Hello! I am here for the challenges event of course ✨ the Olympics sound like a great occasion to try the save swap challenge again!

If nobody else is planning on hosting it I'd like to try hosting a Create a custom Pokemon TCG card event. I don't see it mentioned (yet).
Fairy hosted it a couple years ago and I quite liked doing it. Main difference(s) will be actual judge(s) instead of a public vote and I'm gonna emphasize the word 'custom'.
Could potentially do the judging by myself (as Serebii has a TCG dex for the sake of comparing move damage/hp etc.), but would like 1 or 2 co-hosts/co-judges if possible.

Was also contemplating an art based game where I provide a starting image and 5 or 7 empty areas and people would have 48 hours to draw a panel for a short Pokemon themed comic page. There seem to already be a bunch of art events though so if there's too many I'm leaving that out.

I can probably do some Jackbox.

GP I can host some Pictionary if you want to lessen the burden on yourself (I almost got scared that no one remembered but good thing you did).

I'll also do the VGM Sharing (revamped) again if no one else minds. I checked and last year I had people try to identify 100 songs and rank 50 so yeah I've learned my lesson.

Can also do Jackbox if you guys want to share burden.

I'll host the Battle Bash again (battling tournament with team-building formats weighted a bit more than random battles). Could also split up the team-building and random formats into separate events, but I'd be concerned about the former being too inactive. I'm also open to co-hosts!
