[GT Challenge] • Baton Pass 2.0

Completed the GT challenge by entering the hall of fame in my own save, it's the most suitable and epic way to finish this kind of challenge. Thanks to the hosts for good event once again!

Team: Aqua
Class: Psychic
Restriction: Must have 2 Ghost or Psychic type pokémon in your party at all times.
Save: kpac_xjinx's Fire Red save
Segment: 4/13 Pewter City -> Cerulean City

Another segment completed! Hoping to grind out a few today. Picking up in Pewter I realised I needed some psychics before the gym and thankfully this was achievable! Catching 2 Abra, Cherry and Blossom, I was able to fulfil my restriction. I've not gone to see Bill so Route 23 is available to train up on. I don't think it was possible to complete my task here, I thought about it for a while but couldn't find anything that was immune to the rival or Misty.

Segment 4
Devalues Crystal save

It's been a long time since I played Pokemon Crystal and the game loadup screen was so nice and nostalgic😄 I beat Chuck but didn't earn any task points because I wasn't confident I could beat him handily with just two pokemon. I still have lots of opportunity to get my last set of task points though. On to segment 5!

2nd Segment
My own Fire Red save

Cleared Route twenty-whatever is, north of Cerulean. Basically met Bill and had a kiss or two with his pokemon, until I realised it's Bill himself:p Caught a lot of Pokemon, traded Spearow for Farfetch'd, got a Bicycle. Cleared SS Anne thoroughly, as well as the route between underground terminal and vermilion. Didn't touch the route east of Vermillion, though. Only entered the Diglett cave for pokemon catching(damn that Dugtrio ate 10 pokeballs!). Got HM, sweeped with Dugtrio. Saved some snacks for Ivysaur, in the form of trainers in gym. Badge earned.

3rd Segment
CoolKid575's Crystal save

Boxed Kanto pokemons and withdrew Furret. Went all the way back to New Bark, caught two Sentrets at Route 29. Caught a Zubat at Route 30 after waiting a bit for night. Realised Route 30 pokemon are usable for my task so boxed one Sentret and kept the other along with Zubat (3rd pokemon? Thankfully, there already was a Furret caught at the same aforementioned route, when I opened the save :p).
Pfft, no Town Map on PokeGear? Beat up the old man with a straw for the Map Card or whatever. Killed a gang of Unowns with Zubat. Came back to Ecruteak and destroyed all the girls, their Kimonos and eeveelutions. Got HM. Walked for Olivine. Cleared the city, including Light Tower. Pfft, weak gym trainer, asking me for help. The ferry people told me I might fall, so no boat for me. The irony? Riding on my Croconaw. As if it's safer. Defeated every swimmer in reach and reached Chuck's hideout. Checked at the Pokemaniac to make sure Furret is from Route 29. Saw a Suicune! Well who cares, lmao. Went inside the gym, Wing Attack spam. Bs Boulder puzzle. Now comes Chuck. Arceus. Jesus Christ. Trained Golbat for Chuck, and it actually One hit KO'd whatever the first pokemon Chuck sent in. The second Pokemon, Poliwrath if I remember well, almost got one hit KOd too. Stuck on like ten hp. Made my Golbat sleep to death :// pathetic. Quagsire finished it off. Jama suru na! Oh right, now that I remember, a lady outside the gym told me to visit her after defeating Chuck. Forgot to visit here, do check on her. And also check the Suicune if ya want, or ignore it lmao. Felt longer than Rock tunnel. Oh well, got a task done. The save had 4 badges and I used 3 pokemon from first five accessible routes (Furret and Sentret from Route 29, err Golbat from Route 30) for battle against Chuck.

(BADENCNTER is the Furret. And don't ask me why, I didn't nickname it)

Segment: 6/13
Save: Janp's Fire Red file
Objective: Badge 6

Wanted to come back to this file post-Celadon because of buyable evolution stones. Happened to have two stone evolutions on hand (Pikachu and Eevee). Decided to make that three. Returned to Mt Moon to catch Clefairy. Evolved all three for the task, then leveled them.

Hates Koga so much. Specifically, Muk. Spams Minimize, Acid Armor, and Hyper Potions on it while poisoning you. Definitely had all three stone evolution Pokemon participate in the battle. Won without using any items. (Not for a task. Just because.) Resulted in...quite the battle. Bonus screenshot:

GT 2024 Koga Bonus Screenshot.png

(Hates letting Pokemon faint, okay? Cannot do Nuzlockes because of it.)

And the Hall of Fame screenshot:
GT 2024 Janp Fire Red 6 Badges.png

Grabs 15 points (5x3) for evolving and using three stone evolutions. Maxed out that task. No longer needs to worry about stone evolutions.

Save: Explorer of Time's X save
Segment: 5/13 Shalour City -> Courmaline City

This was a very quick segment. I originally had no idea what to do, the NPC at the start of the route I needed to go kept telling me I had unfinished business. I eventually found them at the top of Mont-Saint-Michel and stole her Lucario. I taught surf to Bill the Snorlax and used it to cross the 2-tile wide river. After that it was some rope climbing to get to the leader who I was able to swap Honedge into Gogoat's Take Down and secure some more task points!

4th Segment
Arcaneum's Soul Silver save

This was pretty fun because I picked up Soul Silver from the same place where I left Crystal, so it felt like playing the same game but with better eyes/resolution lol. Complained about having to box Kanto Pokemon last time, this is what happened this time:
Spoiler:

Lmao, two pokemon out of which one is an HM slave. Thank ARCeus, the pokemon were kinda overleveled so Feraligatr solo carried till I accomplished my tasks. Grabbed the Shuckle from Chuck's island for fun. Also put back the egg in party. One can use fly at this point but thank the "Native-only" rule: I didn't have a single birb left that I could use to fly. Force to surf, which I hate. Well atleast, I had some repels thankfully. Travelled all the way down New Bark Town. Yes, the same as last time- 2 pokemon from first 5 routes. The third? Again a Ferret already there! Though of course, the former 2 were both Hoothoot this time.
Spoiler:

Hatched the egg. Time to box it back LOL
Spoiler:

Time to go back. Grabbed a Quagsire on my way back to Olivine. Massacred every fit trainer around the Whirl Islands. Also respectfully put some dirt in Tentacruel eyes. All good. Time to give her the medicine...oh no, we met last time but I didn't press A button facing her...so she forgot to order Medicine...now I will have to surf back...no Johto birds to use Fly ;-; wiped out every trainer in the Lighthouse in anger. When my anger calmed down, I did a crazy thing - HM FLY on Hoothoot. LMAO I was surprised. Well who cares, I don't have time to surf. Taught Fly to both Hoothoot, so one doesn't get too burdened :) came back with drugs meds. Woah, she left her Ampharos and went to the gym? Was it even hers? Ah screw it. Rushed to the gym.... pretty wholesome :o first time, gym trainers wishing ya best, instead of talking shet. Lol. Quagsire wiped easily. Jasmine got that introvert feeling though, so a bow to her in respect. Oh well, whatever.

Segment 5
LeGoldenWolf's Sapphire Save

This was a rough one. Tate and Liza were the next leaders and so I chose to level up a Marill I caught (now Poutine, the Azumarill) and Breloom (AppleSlice). I would have vastly preferred Ludicolo but couldn't easily get a water stone and didn't want to go in with a Lombre. Also caught an Absol (Li'L Donut) but didn't level it as much as I should have... I may have spaced out and forgotten about Breloom's weakness to psychic moves which was very dumb of me. Then came a bunch of plot and what felt like endless grinding. In any case, the only losses were a couple fodder pokemon I brought for clean switches/baiting... and also the Absol I just caught 😬 At least I only lost my own pokemon and not a higher level one. Alas, no task points here but I'll keep trying to get my final 8 task points soon!

(Editing to add another segment rather than double posting)

Segment 6
tenthcompanion's OR Save

I didn't really have to do any plot stuff so I was able to go fight Norman right away. I mostly used Graveler and Combusken for this fight and unfortunately didn't nab my last task points. Graveller was already overleveled, Combusken was ~lv.31 and the rest of the team was in their mid 20s so I decided not to grind other pokemon up to a higher level. (I'm a bit grinded out today after leveling for Tate and Liza in segment 5 tbh.) Assuming I receive my save back after the feather badge, I... look forward... to fighting Tate and Liza again :cry:

Happens to be late here. Will keep this brief. Grinded up the team, plus some others, 8+ levels. Was way more than necessary for Wallace.

Dove into the underwater cavern. Beat Archie easily. Did not face too much difficulty against Wallace. Had one faint, due to trying to finish it quickly.

Save: CoolKid575's Crystal save
Segment: 5/13 Cianwood City -> Olivine City

After a quick stop at the pokemon center to pick up MOVIETHREE the Unown and PROF X the Abra from the PC, I taugh Fly to the Hoothoot who took me back to Olivine.

Battling Jasmine was very straightforward with BOG WITCH the Quagsire swapping into a baited Thunderbolt from the first Magnemite which proc'd my Task yet again!
This brings the number of badges on the save to 6 and my task points to 20!

Chapter 6 - Don't go Jason Waterfalls...

Doctor Rules:
Spoiler:

Reunited with my original besties yayyyyyy. I've missed you TSUNAMI!

After another round of around $7,800 to get my supplies stocked up, it was time to tear through this short segment.

First thing was to get our HM03 from the (thankfully easier) Kimono Girls segment, followed by a quick detour to the Burned Tower, just 'cause. After that, we had a bit of a blitz through the next route, securing CREAM the Meowth and ORVILLE the Magnemite, who was this segment's MVP.

We bump into your Rival at Olivine City, before taking a dip in the water and making our way to Cianwood City. LOTS of levelling up for Orville here, managing to evolve them into a Magneton!

We make our way into the coastal dojo gym and STARSCREAM the Pidgeotto just decimates the Trainers, before we're up against Chuck himself. Now I forgot his Primeape learned Double Team and that made things TOUGH. STARSCREAM had to be retired and instead TSUNAMI essentially muscled its way through, before we change to ORVILLE to take on Poliwrath. Which was a lot easier. Like, OHKO easier.

As a result, we obtain one (1) Storm Badge!

And with that, our segment ends! Stats for the segment:

Badges: 6 (Zephyr, Knuckle, Plain, Hive, Heat, Storm)
Next player: kpac_xjinx

This segment started off with me catching another Drowzee (Snout) who hopped into the party alongside PILLOW the other Drowzee caught previously by someone else.
I went to Lake of Rage and caught a SHINY Gyarados! Who'd have imagined?!
I then went and beat up some guys doing pirate radio and then off to the gym for badge 7 of the game! I don't think I could have easily done my task on this one so I've passed it by.

Segment 1/13
Restriction: Only 1 pokémon of each colour!

The first footstone within sinnoh was honestly quite a tough one, it's kinda funny how many times Bidoof can miss a tackle haha!
I was thinking of catching an Abra, afterall, the Hidden Power TM given to me was quite cool looking, however, turns out Abra is Brown, and Bernadette is such a honey muffin, I couldn't leave her so soon!

After a quick and easy fight with my rival, my kricketot caught upon ray of moonlight evolved into the speedy Kricketune! Sure to do as much damage as it can!
As Muffin the Onix and Grand Duke the Piplup take on the first gym leader, Roark.
Muffin takes a nasty Headbutt from their Cranidos; however, not without having heavily lowered it's defense and HP beforehand, therefore letting Piplup finish Cranidos off with a coup de grâce!

Due to a lack of weather, my task wasn't exactly accomplished, but it'll be in due time! afterall, how will the flowers grow if Rain and Sunlight don't work together?

This entire region is quite beautiful, yet shrowded in mysteries, I hope whoever follows my footstep discovers the secrets of Sinnoh for me!

Two quick updates!

First I beat Blaine in Janp's FireRed save. I got a Selfdestruct kill with Graveler on his ace Arcanine so that's 6 more points for my task, and I only need to explode one more time with my Pokémon to get all 30! Hopefully that happens soon :)

The main thing I did there however, was catch a crazy amount of Pokémon just to get an Exp. Share, then level up a Gloom with it, and then not using it. I guess it's a nice gesture for whoever goes against Giovanni, at least.

The other segment I completed was Gardenia's stretch in StarstruckFlora's Pearl save. Kinda frustrating at first, I admit I didn't like the team I was given that much... but Kricketune of all things was a hero during the fight against the Gym Leader, getting a Fury Cutter sweep going up until max power. It wasn't enough to win against Roserade as well, but that's where a puny Zubat came in, tanked all of the opposing hits, and finished it off with Wing Attack. I really didn't have many options there, I didn't want to test my luck with a -Spd nature Ponyta that I couldn't have used anyways after its evolution, so I just went with Zubat and that was it (funnily enough, Golbat is already a 90 Spd Pokémon, which meant I couldn't use it without a speed reducing nature, that I also didn't look for).

The Onix in the team was doing absolutely pitiful damage during the segment (even a simple Geodude has literally double the attack stat of an Onix) but at least its defensive prowess helped me out a lot against Mars. All well what ends well :woop:

Both saves are on Discord!
