Has Another Forum Ever Been WAY too strict

Yeah, PC is being pretty strict. Every controversial thread that gets into a heated discussion gets locked, but not before a mod gets to voice his angry opinion. Oh, and some of the members are being pretty strict on people who differ in opinions.

*waits for negative rep for having a "bad" opinion*
Please take it to a higher staff member if mods (or any staff members) are tossing in last words as they close the thread. :/ We don't condone that in the least.

But lol, we've never had ANY luck with heated threads. It's a Pokemon forum and too many people are, unsurprisingly, immature about current issues.

I actually love it here. I mean sure, I find a few times where I get attacked by people I won't name but I don't hate the forums because of that.

Anyway, sPPf is very strict. Why else do you think I stayed here at PC? Also, appearantly they are strict with images for avatars and sigs because they have a very sucky server, unlike PC.

As for the way the handle things well...it is pretty overreacting. Anyway, a good friend of mine is a mod there now.

But one reason I hate it there was because I asked if we could have avatars after a certain amount of posts or if it was a high staff thing. A mod comes in and very rudely tells me to read other topics about it and that it gets asked too many times.

I SPECIFICALLY said that I had never seen anything staying it and she rudely told me to read next time...well, where am I supposed to go to read about it? D:<

Penguin: I agree with Erica. It's not the fault of the staff for closing the threads. The only reason why the close them is because people get way too into it or because they whine about something that was misinterpreted. PC really is a bit more immature when it comes to debate.

Why else do you think they got rid of their debate forum? It was getting too heated because people were having huge problems with accepting opinions and ended up tearing each other's throats for saying something the wrong way.

Oh man, it seems like I missed the action with Serebii. Oh well, I've never really had a problem with them anyway, except maybe in their debate forum.

I've never really had a problem with PC, either. The only other forum I've been a member of is PE2K and they've been pretty cool as well. You can't blame the strict mods entirely though. If you take away all the moderation what do you have? 4chan. So at least you know they are taking their jobs seriously.

Serebii is a joke, which is why I left :/

Hmmm...I didn't even notice this thread. XD

I dunno...most of the forums I've been to are nice.
Haven't been to SppF for a while now so I don't have an opinion based off Serebii and the SF mod's comments.

Bulbagarden has been nice and. Their Forum games doesn't have character limits

TV.com...Haven't been there for a while so...no comment.

PC is a great place to be in and the people are civilized enough except when people start going crazy on hot threads. Sorry if I started it with my old election thread. And the fact that the forum games have character limits confound me. They don't count as post count so...why? I got infracted for breaking the character limit in OT. ;_;

Eh, please don't negative rep or infract me for this. I'm just airing idle thoughts...

@ Foxhound: Eh...I just use PC as a place to get people's opinion because I want to see the opinion of people in my age group and I'm too lazy to go to other social-networking sites for that. XD

It's because they're not heated discussions, they're all out flamewars, iono how they end up like it, maybe some people just keep derailing threads.

And I mean c'mon, how is a pokemon forum suited for serious discussions about controversial topics?

Hm.. If you didn't notice, there's a number of non-pokemon forums here too..

DarkMark, a Harry Potter forum. There are kids on there, so it's like mega-strict. I can't stand it. When JeannieChang took over control of the forums it was like a concentration camp! By the Abyss, she was horrible. Though it got better, since they added an NC-17 area and I can be as vulgar as I want, generally ;P
This place is a little strict, but I understand why. It's not too bad, though. No where near as bad as DarkMark.

I've noticed that PC isn't what I'd call "Strict" but it has started to get a bit more stern. I love this website to death. The only thing I don't like about it, is the Quick Trade thread. I have posted in there before with no results, but if I post a thread saying the pokemon I want in a thread by itself, I get better results. That's the only thing I don't like about PC but other than that, this place is awesome.

Well, I'm a member of several forums, and not many are really strict, but on 'serebii.net' , I once said in the chatroom " Well, you're not very nice doing that! just jokin, lol, i'm sure you're a very nice person. P'raps, a bit pesimistic? ^_^" which really isn't very very offensive or nothing, but I got an infaction! :0

PC and Serebii. Espcially Serebii, unlike PC, which I hope this won't happen, Serebii, has strict rules,no trade corner, and no custom avatars except for staff which really pisses me off. PC is starting to get stirct in a way.
We don't have custom avatars because of the strain on the server. It's already slow as is - do you want it slower? :p

Certainly not in the Frequently Asked Questions section. :p

We had a section like a trade corner at one time, but it was excruciatingly active to the point of moderation of it being exhaustive for the multiple mods modding the section.
The current system is a lot more efficient to moderate. :)

People complain that some of the rules are arbitrary, but if you look around, or ask around, the rules actually are quite justified. It's just preventing abuse, essentially. It's a larger forum, so more abuse is likely to happen, no? D:

And.. personally, I've never really had a forum be too strict with me. I tend to read the rules, and try to remember then when I post. If they have a rule, it's usually for a reason. :[

As odd and as nooby I'll sound for saying this, but...

Gaia can be pretty strict, too.
The mods there don't pay attention to the content in reports. They just lash out the ban-whip like it's nothing. So you could literally do nothing wrong whatsoever and be a good member, but if you get reported, you're pretty much banned.
I talked to a mod there once, so I know. They're always just too wrapped up in dealing with reports to even dedicate 30 seconds to read them.

Pokefarm doesn't allow regular members to have a custom avatar either no forums are too strict.
Pokemon Nightmare is a little strict but not too strict.
PIF isn't strict much.
All forums I go to are a little strict.

Serebii because Serebii won't let regular members have avatars that are custom made. Plus on Serebii you can't have name changes, and the max size for sigs is 200x200? WTF!?

Are you seriously the first person to say this? =( I've read the whole thread, and everyone's all "baww I was infracted on Serebii for posting a one line review" or "lol serebii suckzorz". I'm in the same boat as you, in that I don't think any forum I've been on has been too strict. Looking at Pokémon forums, sure, they all have their quirks; PC and Serebii are both quite daunting in size to someone who's used to a forum the size of, say, PE2K, while the communities on Bulbagarden and TCoD can get a little... hostile at times.

As for a strict forum, however, I recall something that once happened on the now-dead Pokémon Fan Universe. A member was banned for, and I quote, "spreading communism". PFU was run by a better admin in its later years, thankfully, before pretty much everyone left it to die.

As for signatures, 2 200x200 images on a 600x800 resolution - yes, some people still have that/use it - is obscenely large. :p

Haha, I don't think the first necessarily, but yeah. I just try to follow the rules without complaining excessively. I merely assume most rules have a justification behind them; yet when they're strange to me, I do question them to a moderator or an administrator. Usually, that solves my question ^^

Oh, how silly of me, I didn't notice that the site was called Pokeandsomeothersubforumscommunity. I can't say I know ANYONE who didn't join here for a completely non pokemon related reason, it also goes without saying that a lot of the members here are quite obviously young and impressionable. They have every right to enjoy themselves in a kind, calm atmosphere.

In short, the majority of members are either young, uninformed or disinterested with heated debates, especially ones that get way out of hand.

All forums have different ways of handling things. I think it depends on what the forum is originally covering. You're always going to have rules wherever you go, whether you like them or not.

I've been to this place called Anime Render and they have renders and stuff there. However, you either have to buy your gold/premium membership or spend time trying to post to reach those galleries.

I don't post on forums that much, let alone just PC and it hard when I go to a new forum because then it's like I have to start over fresh. :<

I do remember another forum that was pretty good but...in a way it was already somewhat dead when I was there. It was called RXN forums and the only trouble was when I took the blame for a friend of mine after he took 3 points away from this mean admin. We both got banned but I think know that it was a bit too much. We could have just been warned about it because hell, we were n00bs. D:

FoxHOUND: Veterans also will tell you that they don't like pokemon anymore. Yet they still come here for those other subforums you are talking about. Having those other subforums give members a chance to get a break from all the other pokemon business that tends to go on. That and the whole pokemon section is like a n00b central almost.

If you had taken the time to check either my join date, or where most of my posts have being, you'd of realised I am one of those "vets" you're talking about. It doesn't stop the fact that most of the members are here because of pokemon and most of them are young. If you had also taken time to take in what i said, you'd realise I was talking about the majority of the memberbase and how heated, often controversial topics aren't really suitable for them. Not saying we shouldn't have them, just saying i understand why they always end up locked.
