Have you ever been to anime conventions?

I have. I go to one every single year. I've met a lot of favorite voice actors, and even three of the friends I know today on Facebook. I started going in 2009. It helps build up my social skills too, but it takes a lot of planning to keep everything right though. :/

So, what about you? Have you ever been to an anime convention?

Yes I have, my first convention was in 2010. At first I would attend conventions for the goodies but then later on I realized that it did indeed help with my social skills and made some friends. I can strangely say it helped me against my shyness. It is quite expensive though: entrance + travel + cosplay (if you cosplay that is). But I always kept good memories and I'm still planning on going. :)

I've been going to them since about the summer of 2010 when I went to Otakon for the first time. I'm from the east coast so I can always find a group of Otakon guys to meet up with if I want to go, and my boyfriends from the west coast so I can meet up with his friends for Anime Expo if I want. I also went to a little rinky-dink one over the winter in...Michigan, I think.

I enjoy the social interaction and the shops.

I've gone to Otakon every year with a good friend of mine since 2008. Don't know if I'll be able to go this year, though, as my funds are kinda tight, plus I'd have to travel by train or plane since I don't live in MD anymore. I've also wanted to go to some of the local cons, but again, haven't had the money to do so.

I've never been to an anime convention, but I am going to volunteer at AX this year! So excited ^^

I've been to 3. The anime conventions here are nothing much really.

Never been to one yet so I honestly have no idea what goes on at these events. Soon to change though next year when I go to uni where hopefully I can go to a con as a group.

Oh I've been to some of Indonesia's most famous ones. Good thing I live in the capital. xD

I currently have this inner conflict on whether I should save up for ORAS/any other upcoming 3DS games or for upcoming conventions.

The people I meet are really nice people, although they tend to get flabbergasted by me and my sister's English conversations. It's funny to see then trying to converse with us in English, and then we told them we speak Indonesian as well. P:

Maybe someday I'll actually share contact information with them. *sigh* That'll be the day my circle finally makes a debut.

Never been to one, and I think that there's only a couple a year that happens in Toronto. I probably will go to one eventually just for the experience, and see what it's like, but I don't have any near future plans.

I've gone to Anime Expo in LA every year since 2007, when I was a sophomore in high school, with one exception, since I wasn't able to go in 2009 due to work. I've also gone to a few other conventions in other parts of the country. For me, it's often less about the con itself than it is an excuse to go up to LA for a 4 day vacation with 3+ friends.

That said, I do tend to geek out super hard over the Bandai gunpla booth at AX. So many model kits in one place @_@ And there's always at least a few cool things to watch in the panels and video rooms. Mega64 is probably my favorite recurring panel at AX.

But yeah, cons are the most fun when you have a group of good friends to go with.

Fooling around with the ones watching the stands, that's what I normally do in a regular day at a con.

I've only started to attend cons 2 years ago back when I started to watch more anime. And during these 2 years, I had made cosplayers do OOC things for my photos, did some ranting about certain anime with people of the same opinion, and fooled around with the miniature mannequins some people had displayed on their stands (I'm serious with this one).

All in all, cons are fun. You, anime watchers who have yet to attend cons, I'm looking forward to hear your first experience. :>

By the way, beware of getting squished. :3

I plan to attend a con with Jo (Fairy) and her bf Nick and maybe along with Dipu as well sometime in the future. But that's a few years away haha. As for cons in our country, Comic-con does happen and there are get togethers by various anime clubs based in all kinds of cities around the country - I DO plan to attend one whenever I can. It just depends on whether or not I'm free and if it is financially okay for me to go to one. Hopefully with me joining college this year I'll have more chances of attending one. I'm looking forward to the experience in all honesty.

I've been to 3 different local conventions, increasing in size each of the last 3 years. I started out at MetaCon 2012 (it's first year), a con with an anime element but that was trying to be a mini San Diego Comic Con. We made the mistake of not booking a hotel for that. Then we had plans to go to our largest local one, Anime Detour, but I missed the registration deadline for that by 12 hours, so I didn't get to go with my group, but we made up for that by going to AniMinneapolis later in 2013, which was actually pretty busy, though I didn't get to enjoy it to the fullest as the only driver in the group and we stayed in a hotel that was 10 minutes away by car. This past spring, I managed to register for Anime Detour on time, though because we only had 4 people and half of them were MTG nerds, we spent most of the time idling in the Atrium, the Dealer's Room, or back at the hotel playing Mario.

But yeah, cons are the most fun when you have a group of good friends to go with.

Oh definitely. No question about it.

I've been to Anime Boston for it's first three years, so I was there for the very first one. I haven't been back since 2005, though, due to lack of funds and an interest in anime.

Also, I've been to the local convention the first year that started, but it was so poorly run that I haven't been back. I've heard it's gotten better. I might go again with some friends if I had the money, since the statement that conventions are more fun with friends is definitely true.

Yep! I've been to Metrocon, the biggest anime convention around these parts. It was fun, although I didn't go with the right group of people.

The only reason I would have to go now is for cosplaying. Which I would love to do, but I can't sew. xD

I wish. I never seem to keep up with the times, so I keep forgetting when the conventions take place, if they ever do. Then there's always my stubborn parents who won't change their schedules for anything, and the fact that I live in a backwater town and have to travel quite a way away to get to any sort of convention. (They definitely wouldn't hold one here anyway) Though the next time one pops up nearby, I won't hesitate to try and go. I've heard good things about anime conventions, and I'd really love to meet new people who share my passion for anime.
