4th Gen HeartGold/SoulSilver Speculation

A time of day effect in a forest? Yes please. Oh and with very dark setting at night. With hoothoot eyes.

That would be really cool especially that second part. They needed a hoothoot to get through that dark forest, it would be pretty cool if foresight or something similar were to be in the game to add an extra obstacle.

Actually coming to think about, if you ever left your game play stationary for a certain amount of time you would at times here the cry of certain Pokémon in that area. I remember this feature because in my Ruby version I used to hear a lot of Zangoose at times. So, taking the idea another step further in HeartGold and SoulSilver, showing the foresight effect for the eyes of Hoothoot during the night in Ilex Forest would be a great insight for the game.

It will actually be near in completeting the realistic effect for Pokémon games. Not to forget, the Ilex Forest is supposed to have a spooky vibe, so this wouldn't be such a terrible idea. If only Game Freak would take such an idea an really implement it into the remakes, it would bring up the quality of the game when compared to the past games before it.

Yes, the deduction of points from RSE is what added an extra challenge in the original Pokémon Contests. It was something that got me both upset, yet satisfied with them. The reason why is because when you get to deduct points from the other contestants and use move combinations, then it is quite fun. However, when you lose the points and get your Pokémon too nervous to move, then it can get upsetting. Although it added to the fun of the game, I wouldn't expect those applications to come back if they allow HGSS Contests to be Compatible with DPPt Contests. As for the Wi-Fi access with Pokémon Contests in the game, one can only hope, because I think this will be a great step up for this side event.

Honestly, I do agree with you about the clouds within the new remakes. Unlike those in Platinum, I've noticed the ones here seem to be more spaced out rather than overly used. So, as good as it was in Platinum, it does seem as the Game Freak has stepped up the graphics and outlook of the game a bit more. As for the Shrine, a bit of difference would have been nice, however I can understand the similarity. Seeing as both are shrines to worship or stand for a specific Pokémon, then it makes sense to look quite similar, especially knowing the game is using the same tile format as DPPt. I don't expect many changes to be done to it though.

Bug Catching Contests is what made Gold, Silver, and Crystal a part of what they were. It were these small add-ins that slowly yet surely increased the quality of the game. Giving it a bit of difference to what we have now. So, bringing back the Bug Catching Contests would be a smart move for Game Freak as fans from the originals would be quite disappointed to see it removed. The ribbon idea however is quite a nice thought and I can see that working, but we'll see.

About the Day Care on Route 41 and having the ability to walk in next to them and see them, I find this very possible to happen. Like you have stated the use of all 493 OW sprites for each Pokémon raises this possibility. It is another small feature to the game that makes it even more worthwhile in the end. So, I definitely see this making a comeback, if not then it would be quite disappointing as well. Although, I'm sure more than likely it will be back.

Hehehe, I agree to all of that... (BTW that's too long =P)

Have you thought about the places that we couldn't access?
(ex: Safari Zone, Pewter Museum etc...)
I think there's 50% that it'll remain the same like the original ones - unaccessible...

Or there's also chance that they're gonna be re-open...
I can't wait to see the 3D Celadon and Goldenrod, I really love Cites. [=

Hopefully we can have a rematch to the 16 Leaders, 'coz I really want to! =P

I had too much to say XD

Anyway, I actually have thought a lot about the inaccessible locations from the originals; the Safari Zone being one of the major ones. However, if you think about it, for the least, Hoenn Pokémon may show up at certain areas within the game. This is so players will be able to capture all 493 Pokémon without the use of the GBA versions. So, I was thinking [along with others] that the Safari Zone can be opened and have Hoenn Pokémon located within the game. I think this will make a pretty good set up and give the players a chance to relive the Safari Zone once more.

The same goes with Cerulean Cave as well. Before in the originals, we weren't able to have access to the area. So, with this being said it could be possible that in the remakes they will allow players to travel within it once more like in FRLG. This will give the players a chance at catching Mewtwo for their, team, collection, or PokéDex entry. Nevertheless it adds up with the thought of having the ability to fill the National Dex without the major use of GBA games.

As for the Pewter City Museum, there is a chance for this to return. Before in GSC we didn't have access to fossils and three years later Cinnabar Island was ruined by a volcano, so this can give the Pewter City Museum the chance to revive fossils if brought into the games. At least, if the underground is brought in and players can obtain fossils like in DPPt, then the Museum would be the best place to have access on reviving them. In a way, it'll be a kind of relation to the Lab in Cinnabar and Pokémon Company in Rustboro City of Hoenn. However, all of this is just speculation on ideas that can all work and expand Kanto more than what was done to it before. It is unknown if all of this might happen, but I give it a 50/50 chance of possibility as well as the person next to me might.

With the Gym Leaders, I say rematches will more than likely occur. Just like in FRLG it was done in a proper manner. We battle them like the originals the first round, and then after obtaining the National Dex we are allowed another challenge against the Elite [Hopefully this will extend to the gyms as well]. With this being said, a rematch would be wise and the ability to make them stronger with the new generation Pokémon mixed into their original team would be a nice addition the second time around.

I think it's definitely possible that some of the inaccessible areas will be reopened, especially if they include the Sevii Islands or another mini-quest (which would allow more ingame time for events to happen, such as the Safari Warden returning, Lavender Town deciding the extra security wasn't needed anymore, etc). Some things I don't think will return, sadly, such as Cinnabar, the Seafoam Islands, Viridian Forest, and Unknown Dungeon/Cerulean Cave. But the Safari Zone, Lavender Town, Silph, and some others definitely stand a chance of coming back, and I hope they do.

I absolutely believe that it will! They are their remakes! FR/LG had the same story as R/G and had new features+ a bit of more story after the elites. Thus I certainly believe that the story won't change.

If they add in the Sevii Islands, which currently I'm on the edge about, then I would say Kanto will get some changes from before. This will allow the past events from Gold and Silver to modify what they did to Kanto before. Such as, allowing the Warden to reopen the Safari Zone so players can have access to it, and so on. Although, changes in Kanto and openings of the old inaccessible places can still be done even if the Sevii Islands were not to occur.

In the originals, we did get to visit the Seafoam Islands, even though it wasn't as large as the original Seafoam Islands, but we had to go there to battle Blaine after he had to leave Cinnabar Island. So, I would say with the extra memory they can expand this area for the additional Water and Ice Type Pokémon later on. This will all help the players fill in the PokéDex without the use of the GBA slot seeing as the DSi never included it.

The same would go for Cinnabar Island, now that it has become erupted, the island instead of being a normal city can be a large cave-like area where players can travel. This will reflect upon something similar to Stark Mountain in Sinnoh. Again, we could have the chance to capture the needed steel, ground, rock, and fire type Pokémon to complete the PokéDex. Though, I think this as a little wishful thinking, it could be a possibility.

I've already mentioned the Cerulean Cave earlier as I referred it to the missing GBA slots in the DSi once more. So going with this idea, they can open back the cave so players can get their chance to once more capture Mewtwo for themselves. This again will expand Kanto, give players something extra to strive for, and allow us to have another Mewtwo without the hassle of migration or trade.

Merged topic speculating on whether the story will remain the same as, or similiar to, how it was in GSC here... given it IS speculation.

IMO... it'll stay the same at least to a large point. HG/SS is a remake after all, and so far events such as Slowpoke Well are in again as well.

I found this out about Kris.

"...Kris, despite being the female counterpart of Crystal's player character Gold, is believed not to be included as the female counterpart, with a new character instead taking her place. Whether she is chosen to be the player character or not, she will still appear in the game, taking a pseudo-rival role akin to the unselected characters of Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum." -Quote source: Bulbapedia

I thought this is helpful to know.

I think it's talking more about the new girl - or Gold, if you choose the girl - becoming the 'pseudo-rival' in HG/SS rather than Kris, actually - leastways, that's the info we've gotten before on her from Coro Coro scans and all - that's whom the article refers to, rather than Kris. (Not the greatest wording there on bulbapedia, have to say - easy to misinterpret it. >_<). Kris, however, has been so far nowhere to be seen or mentioned - it's yet unknown if she'll even appear in the game. We'll just have to wait and see on that, really.

Do ou think heart gold and soul silver will follow the same story as the gold and silver verson? if so will the red gyrados will be in it

This is a remake and not an entirely new game, which a lot of people are starting to get misguided with. Yes, they see a new look, extended areas, and new features, however that is what you need to expect when something is being remade. Again, I'll refer to the model of a car, for one year it'll be something of its own, then the next year it'll be redone with new additions, new features, and a bit of a new look. However, that doesn't change it from what it originally is, meaning a simple remake of what it was originally.

So, to answer your question, yes the game will be the same as it was before when it comes to the storyline. There may be a few updates inbetween, but the same plot nevertheless. Except, after the main game don't expect everything to be exact 1:1 as Hiroshi puts it, because since 1999, lots of things have been through development since then. Not to mention, after the main plot a lot of new things can be done to give the game a better impression to the audience. As for Red Gyarados, seeing as I've said the plot will remain the same and seeing how vital the Red Gyarados was to the original plot, I would say yes, it will make another return.

Even though Kris wasn't implemented to the remakes, I still give Nintendo credit for going at something new. Even though some may fuss about it, I'm one of those who just learn to adapt with many others. However, Kris was a great female role to play as and a little reference or word about her would be pretty interesting to see within the game. Even if she isn't physically seen, a little few words would be good enough to satisfy me, and maybe a few others. So, I'm looking forward to see how the supporting role is played through seeing as it wasn't done before in the original Gold and Silver, nor Crystal.

Well you're right, similar to what happen in FR/LG, some unpopular Johto Pokemon can be caught. Hopefully I'll not just see some Pochyena, Zigzagoon (or some other Pokemon that are mostly dislike) in the new Safari Zone...

Looks like there are many many place we can explore and Pokemon we can catch in HG/SS, I'm really looking forward of it. I really wish it won't disappoint me.

Yeah and I hope the volcano won't ruin the Cinnabar again. I wanna see an adition volcano on Cinnabar. Remember the lava boiling on Stark Mountain in Platinum? I really love it, hope they could add this effect in Cinnabar Island. And I hope Seafoam Islands can be re-explore again, even if Articuno is not there anymore.

We'll see. [=

Remember the Game Corner as well? There's a new card game there, on G/S, hope it also make a comeback! Speaking of Game Corner, did you know the European versions of Game Corners(Platinum only) are kinda diiferent?
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Game_machine
Hope it won't happen to the European version of HG/SS...

I hope there's snow in Mahogany, Blackthorn and Mt. Silver , I don't know why... But I think the scenery would look more better if there's snow...

To me, I still think her(aka "The New Girl") as Kris...
But only a redesign one...

Yes, seeing as Hoenn is being the only left out region right now, I would say we will more than likely have a few encounters with some of them after the National Dex is obtained. Whether it be in special locations or even through the PokéRadar, I still expect at least a few to be available. Not to mention, along with them being there, more than likely some may be held exclusive like in FRLG had it as well for the selective second generation Pokémon made aquirable.

Besides accessing some of the older areas that were closed before, there will be the new buildings and areas we have seen so far. All of this will give the player something extra to do. Although, adding the extra travel in and a more realistic view point of things will definitely be a nice touch, I agree. It is only to note whether or not Game Freak will implement such an idea at the moment or not.

As for the Game Corner, like in Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver for the Euro version will be disabled as well. The reason being is because of new European law that doesn't permit the influence of gambling or anything closely related to such events. So with this being said, HGSS for the Eruo model will have the Game Corner present, but it will not be accessible to play any of the slot machines available within. Although, on the topic of weather, in recent videos dealing with the Arceus event, snow was seen within the game, however most speculate it being placed near the top of Mt. Silver.

I personally think that the game will release on october 15th because this is supposed to be a celebration of the original gold and silver, and the release date for those games in the us was october 15th, 2000

The information on US' or any other country's, but Japan's release dates hasn't been confirmed as yet. However, it is known that the Japanese release date will be held on September 12th, a day earlier than the release of Pokémon Platinum. Although, when it comes to the US release date I wouldn't expect it so far in the year 2010.

The release difference between the most recent games have been roughly about September [Fall] for Japan and about late February to late April [Spring] for the US. So, going by this I wouldn't expect it to be released on its 10th anniversary date. Not to forget, GameFreak nor Nintendo has any obligation to go by a specific pattern.

The Japanese release date is on the 22nd of September, its already been announced.

Actually, just a few days off, the Japanese release date is scheduled for September 12th of 2009. It has been sited on the Official Pokémon Japanese site for HeartGold and SoulSilver.

yes i understand, but gamefreak physically stated that this game is a celebration of gold and silver, it might not come out october 15 2009, but october 15th 2010

and i know they have no obligations to do that but i have a hunch they might
