How large is your vocabulary?

Average, really. I prefer to use more common vocabulary. Though I tend to look up a word that I need to know what it means to understand something I am reading.

My friends call me a literary genius and constantly ask me to dumb down what I say. I read Lord of the Rings when I was seven years old. Yeah, my vocabulary is fairly extensive but since I've discovered that long words =/= a social life, I've stopped using them more and more and just kept them in reserve for when I'm writing.

Being a somewhat avid reader, my vocabulary is fairly vast. However, I do not tend to use it very often. There are some circumstances when extra description is needed and you'll have to describe something beyond: "HE WAS SO...SO...IDK!" So yeah, I have a wide enough vocabulary which allows me to describe things in greater detail than the average person. There are people I know who have much greater control over whatever language they excel in than I, but I'd say mine's pretty good.

I consider my vocabulary as "moderately high". Its not as large as Shakespeare's but I can definitely cope with it.

Giant, actually. i.e: They dropped one graham's number nuclear bombs on us. Meameamealokapouaoompa.

I bear no resemblance to the altogether fictitious caricature of valiance and pride that is the female that bears the Oriental nomenclature of Hong Meiling, for the deciding characteristic of my gargantuan and ponderous intelligence has nothing to do with excessive and flagrant overuse and abuse of multifarious verbage.

Rather, I am like Patchouli "Big words alone do not impress me, Meiling" Knowledge. I find greater glory in the use of short, complex sentences, rather than long, bare statements.

I'm constantly surrounded by idiots, so my vocabulary is restrained.

But it's giant, long, and pleasurable. Those are the adjectives of my vocabulary. But, as I learned more and more languages, I generally forget words in English and replace them with another by mistake VERY often, simply because I don't just study foreign languages, I speak them with foreigners every day (mainly my girlfriend on Skype).

I feel my vocabulary is too small for a writer. :/ I'd say it's not too small in general, but not really big or anything either. I should learn some new words sometime. Or buy a dictionary and thesaurus. Either or. :p

I speak/type differently depending on the situation/who I hang out with. I'm horrible with definitions, even though I can understand what Shanghai Alice typed. I just have terrible short-term memory.

That being said, slightly above average.

I would say my vocabulary level is good, though you wouldn't tell from how I talk to my friends. I would say it got better after reading Frankenstein. That is a great book, with an extraordinary vocabulary.

It's what you call Average but there are still one or two words where in a conversation I'll pretend I know but then I'll look it up later

My vocabulary isn't really good, mainly because I hate reading books, so I don't get to see how well authors piece together words into sentences. Thankfully, I can at least use words in their correct context. But yeah, if you notice me posting around, I use the same words, haha. I have re-read my posts and thought "wow, i used 'though' and 'yeah' about four times in this..." so I need to read a dictionary or something.

Not very big, though what complex words I do know I tend to overuse to the point of sounding needlessly complicated. -_- I just suck at summing up my thoughts without adding a ton of fluff in the process.

I have the same problem, haha. I write fanfiction and original work, so my vocabulary should be at least above average. However, whenever I write I seem to keep using the same words over and over. Most of the time I tend to read novels and other fanficiton works to find some new words to use.
