When did you start watching Steven Universe?: Oh my, I've heard it was good so I decided to check it out, since I've seen episodes before. Then I binged it and I love it so much. Square mom is best mom.

That was tremendously depressing. It's so hard to see how both Amethyst and Pearl are so desperate to get a slice of how it feels to be Garnet. They both feel so weak alone it's so sad ugh. It's like Sugilite's episode but backwards: the one fusing is Pearl and the one feeling left out and writing a song about it is Amethyst; Sardonyx is not a huge monster from hell but a chatty, happy-go-lucky, theatrical performer; the problem is not in unfusing but on how Pearl wants to get fused again... the only thing that doesn't change is how much they long to feel the love and power Garnet embodies. It's a depressing amount of character development.

Thoughts on Cry for Help:

I agree with everything Ivysaur said. Even some lines are similar, like what Steven says about the Warhammer. I never realized that a detail like Amethyst loving fusing with Garnet could be spun in such a sad way.

There was one positive thing though; Amethyst tries to defend Pearl and understands her motivation. She even chokes up and has to let Steven tell Garnet the truth. It really shows how far she's come, even if she still has serious issues. I hope that at least Pearl and Amethyst grow closer because of this.

EDIT: Also, I think Pearl has crossed a serious line. She might have doomed the entire Earth! And I know Steven did something almost as bad by telling Peridot his name, but Steven doesn't have thousands of years of experience. Plus, since Amethyst was made on Earth, she might not know just how bad Pearl's mistake was. I thought Pearl knew better by now, but she's starting to become a liability. It's really sad.

At least Amethyst's song was nice? .__. Oh, and I guess Sugilite was awesome, too, but the context sure wasn't awesome.

Sardonyx was so charming and I'm so glad I didn't spoil myself over her personality. So cute and witty.. just love her. Pearl's so broken though, and poor Amethyst.. :( What made me really happy was seeing Amethyst defend Pearl from Garnet's anger, though - she truly has come a long way as a character, as Shiva said. Despite what Pearl did she can still understand her reasons given how amazing Garnet is which makes fusion with her wonderful for them. Everyone loves Garnet, haha.

Went makes some pretty good points about this being an almost backwards version of Sugilite's episode and I can really see the resemblance. Very depressing. Everyone was so on edge by the end of the episode which makes the cliffhanger.. asdf unbearable.

Well, I don't remember ever seeing Peridot again after the first time, just a lot of static. Which, yes, was how Peridot's message began... but there was no Peridot at any point after the first time.

I should have expected these feels, especially given the track record of other Stevenbombs.. but my heart is always unprepared. I suppose I was distracted by what a joy Sardonyx was. Ohoho~! (Dat 90s anime ojou-sama laugh.)
I don' t know if we will ever see Sardonyx again after the betrayal. Pearl really needs help. Her selfish actions due to her need for love and validation finally resulted in an outcome she can't ignore. I hope from now on that Pearl can finally face her inner demons and embark on the road of self-improvement. It's gonna be rough... But I think in the end the Crewniverse will have taught a valuable lesson by the end of this arc! This show gets too real with themes they explore sometimes... ;w;

Angry!Ruby's animation was hilarious though. Like, wow. 10/10 art.

It's very interesting to see how Sapphire (and, I guess, by extension, Garnet) acts so cold and uncaring of other people's feelings in general because she can see the outcome for things... so she doesn't pay attention to the fact that people may be in pain before getting the results.

Also precious cinnamon roll getting people to talk about their problems. Also showing his fear of being everybody's problem. Poor kid.

I knew it was going to be about Ruby and Sapphire since I'm subbed to this thread and have email notifications sent to me, so I stupidly clicked the email message where spoilers aren't hidden of course. But that didn't bother me much.

oh my god why are they so cute, i'm so glad to see them interacting like this. And laughy Sapphy? Can you be any cuter?! Sapphire also has the future vision which is what I expected, but not the one eye.. guess that does explain why Garnet has three eyes.

Greg, please be careful on Craigslist.

Keystone Motel

This episode was so freaking cute! I actually ended up tearing up a little toward the end, but that was because it was so heartwarming.
I loved seeing more of each individual side of Ruby and Sapphire and how they had a misunderstanding due to how they each coped with Pearl tricking them in yesterday's episode. I felt this episode really drove in that "Love takes time. Love takes work." idea in that it's okay to not see eye to eye with your SO sometimes. It's coming together and working out misunderstandings that makes you a good couple. Or something like that... I don't even know. Love ain't easy! x'D
It was interesting that Greg wasn't surprised to see Garnet separated, like this isn't the first time he's seen them quarrel. Greg really is best dad with his words of wisdom to Steven. I daresay he has the strongest emotional maturity out of any character in the show.
I forgot to mention yesterday that I was touched to see how Amethyst has grown as a character. Empathizing with Pearl and standing up for her, when in past cases she probably would have lashed out at Pearl. (I don't think that encounter in yesterday's ep was easy for any of the gems.) What Pearl did wasn't right and was potentially a danger to the planet, but she didn't do it out of malice and she knows she messed up big time and regrets it deeply. It was good to see her trying to repair things today, and I imagine she's probably closer to Amethyst who she seemed to be able to confide in. I'm just so glad everyone is showing they care for each other even when they mess up sometimes! ;w; That said, I hope eventually Garnet and Pearl will be able to talk through the Sardonyx incident..

So yeah, this episode brought depth to Ruby and Sapphire's characters - Ruby's a hothead with fire and a righthanded gauntlet, Sapphire's cool and collected with ice, future vision, and moonlights as a cyclops. (The one eye scared me for a second actually o_O) But the one thing that really got to me is how they argued not too long ago about what became of the old Crystal Gems, and now they're arguing again, badly enough to separate.

Side not...Sapphire can fly (or levitate)...fuck yeah

Laughy Sapphy--better than Laffy Taffy!

Well, now we know all about Ruby's and Sapphire's characters! It's great how the writers established them in such a short amount of time. I do find it weird that Greg acted like this has happened before, but then again, maybe Garnet quarrels more than it looks like. Also, poor Steven thinking he was the problem. I think children can really relate to that.

Overall, this episode was not what I was expecting at all. I thought it would focus more on Garnet's and Pearl's damaged relationship. However, I'm really glad we got to see Ruby and Sapphire again. I guess it's good to have a break from the intense drama. Still, I think Greg was the best part of this episode. I want some pizza....

The real big question: if Pennsylvania is the Keystone State, does that mean Beach City is somewhere along the Jersey shore?

2. Which character do you feel you're most like? funnily i'd say jasper but also lapis, so malachite. then a bit ruby and amethyst.
3. Who is your favorite gem overall (not limited to Crystal Gems)? jasper, ruby, sugilite, amethyst and ALEXANDRITE!! something tells me i'm gonna love yellow diamond x)
4. Do you draw fanart or write fanfiction of the series? Would you? yesss i dooo though i haven't posted much of it yet, here are a few (includes fangems and gemsonas!) (i plan on redrawing that pearl and amethyst drawing)

cry for help and keystone

cry for help is one of my favourite episodes thus far, i wrote a post about why i love it so much here. i loved that sugilite had a completely different demeanor. what i also liked was the fact that, in both cry for help and keystone, garnet was given some much needed development and above all flaws. she'd been pretty perfect for a while so that was refreshing. also sapphire only having one eye was pretty obvious. garnet has three. her face as covered by hair the whole time so obviously it was gonna be something out of the ordinary, and she's psychokinetic which is usually illustrated through eyes.
