In Omega Ruby c: I immediately infected my whole party and wonder traded a sick mon onwards. Should maybe send off some more.

Have you had pokérus at any point?

    Congratulations Riki!

That happened to me actually during my very first playthrough of Oras, and it spread through my entire party before I had noticed, and only came to my attention when the pokemon center nurse told me. It also had infected many captured pokemon that I had made contact with, and I ended up with multiple pokerus pokemon in my box when I checked the pc. I realized while breeding that it can also spread to eggs in your party as you travel.

I had previously gotten my team randomly infected with pokerus before playing XY, so I knew the drill when it happened in Oras. Gen 6 seems to be my lucky generation.

I still have plenty of pokerus pokemon, and have used them to spread it to other pokemon I was giving away. I did it recently actually and wonder traded pokerus pokemon as gifts of surprise. Good on you that you also thought to spread the plague to others!

How long does it usually last?

Good question! It varies, there are different strains and it can be contagious for anywhere between 1 day and 4 days during normal game play with the pokemon active in your party.

For me the infection had a shorter period, when left to run it's course the pokemon in my party were cured the next morning, so 24 hours or less. That only applies to pokemon that are traveling with you. All pokerus pokemon that I sent to the PC stayed infected.

If a pokemon with pokerus is stored then it pauses the cycle, and when you withdraw it at any time it will still have it, and it can continue to spread, as if it just got it that day. I have boxes i have named "infirmy" where lots of pokerus pokemon stay, in case it comes in handy later.

You'll know when pokerus is gone because the pokemon will no longer display the purple pokerus text, and instead a pink smiley, to show they had it and recovered. If your pokemon has pokerus and is cured though, I believe you still get the ev boost whenever you defeat another pokemon. Which is pretty cool, good luck in your battles!

    ooo thanks for the information!

So essentially if I put an infected mon in a box it'll stay infected until i take it out and the timecount resumes?

I've managed to catch it in Emerald, Diamond / Platinum, HeartGold, and Black around the time they were recent games. But the strains I have in Gen IV now were deliberately traded for on PC as I'd lost it. Noticed in a Sapphire cartridge I purchased that its there, so will be keeping hold of that!

I'm disappointed its been removed from SV, although it had lost its purpose given how easy EV training is from Gen VIII onwards. I think its because of Covid that it was removed, personally though.

it's gone from my party already ); except for my Gardevoir who sat in a box. I've spread it onwards to many more mons now and will keep them in a box and trade some away :3 let me know if anyone on a 3Ds wants it I suppose~

Happened to me while playing Pokemon Lucian Diamond, a sort of hack rom i made. I have everything documented in the Travel Journal. I was training my team a bit near Snowpoint City and boom: pokerus. I decided to remove it in the end lol

Are there downsides to the infection? o:

Can I take you up on this? I'm also on Omega Ruby

It seems this strain only lasts for about 1 day in the party. Sad, but still, it's something.

Sure! I'll trade you one of my sicklings and it seems it'll affect your party if you put it first in the line and go through some battles with it. I'll PM you~

edit: isn't it wonderfully ironic that a user named Doctor goes around happily spreading infection

Twice. One time in Emerald. I was confused, "why is there a pokerus status on my Pokemon?" & Then I got it in Sword.

I also might have gotten it from Pokemon in a trade, but I don't count that.

Well, I got mine from a wonder trade of all things ahah, and I'm counting that because pokémon is based around trading and communicating with others ;)
