Is there any media you've tried to watch / read / listen to, but you just couldn't finish?

Did you feel like you should continue, even though you weren't enjoying it?

Feel free to share and discuss your reasons for saying "I quit!" in this thread!

This one will have some people screaming at me, but...Steven Universe. One too many Lars-focused episodes, and I absolutely cannot stand Pearl.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Or as I like to call it now... THE DUMPSTER FIRE

I don't remember when I stopped (probably because at this point I'm trying to forget I made this horrible decision in the first place) but it was sometime after the Starlight Glimmer BS and before the first movie came out.

There was too many half-assed BS so-called 'redemptions' and too much shoving down the throats of said half-assed BS 'redeemed' characters trying to get the fans to like them. Yeah I couldn't take that shit anymore. So I dropped it like a rock. One of the few times I drop shows because I try to stick with most shows until the end. I just couldn't with this god damn DUMPSTER FIRE

As I mentioned before in another thread, the Trials of Apollo.

Couldn't make it past the second chapter - the first two ... pentologies (quintet ?) have "If only we'd respected and been nice to these guys, the bad guys wouldn't have so many people helping" as a major component to both main characters story arcs.

So when the third pentology starts with the gods punishing a character that was portrayed in a very sympathetic light in the previous works - when there are so many more people that were pratically begging to be taken down a peg, it just made me so angry I couldn't continue.

Like, I know the gods are stubborn old dogs, but have them have some form of growth, dagnabbit.

This is an anime, but Seven Deadly Sins. I actually got through the whole first season somehow, but it was hard and much later I tried the second season and didn't get far. The main male protagonist's constant groping of the main female protagonist is beyond disgusting and is constantly in our face. IIRC, the first time it happens, he did it to her unconscious. Ew. Disgusting show.

    The pokemon anime.

I tried to watch diamond/pearl. I think I got about 55 episodes in and team rocket was in every single one. I couldn't take it anymore.

    The Simpsons.

I started watching the show in the late 90s and for about 15 years it was a sort of ritual to watch the daily episode. I don't remember the exact reasons why I stopped but at some point I just really wanted to get away from the series.

Years later I heard that the show had long since started to decline in quality, immensely.

+1 with the Pokemon anime. actually any anime that goes on for more than like 200 episodes or so. i cannot be bothered to try and catch up with anything and grind through filler episode after filler episode lol.

also, books in general recently. i used to be able to manage finishing a book in like 3-4 weeks or so, but my reading attention span has severely dropped to beyond abysmal depths. the first book i tried finishing for the Reading Challenge 2021 (or whatever it's called) was literally just a couple hundred pages small and has a pretty darn interesting story, but i can't get through it... it's been 3 months already...

It pains me to say it because I adore the early seasons, but modern doctor who is one I've tried multiple times to watch but I've yet to finish the Matt Smith era.
Something about the writing really doesn't gel with me, it feels like it's trying to be so cerebral with the overarching story but it ends up just being kinda boring. And the filler episodes rely too much on existing monsters for it to be interesting to me.

Moffat's writing was mind-boggling bad at times, and when called out on it, he seemed to imply that the fans "just don't understand it". Sorry Mr. Moffat, but I think it's you that doesn't "get it". Matt Smith was awesome though, he deserved so much better!

I wish I had your willpower to stop watching. I've had to sit through the atrociously bad Chibnall stuff... his writing has actually had me saying "come back Moffat" 😕

I feel so sorry for Jodie Whittaker. She has actually been pretty good after a very rocky start, but the writing and production... just OMG *bangs head against wall*

+2 for the Pokémon anime, which is a shame because I liked some parts of it a lot 😕

Like, I get it's for kids, but that doesn't excuse how formulaic and "safe" the plot is most of the time. There are many other kid shows that aren't afraid of being a little more "mature" and challenging to their audience (ATLA or even Digimon). But here, half of the show's episodes are basically Ash and co. meeting some rando we will absolutely never see again after the episode, seeing what's the deal with them, and Team Rocket showing up so they can get blasted away (again).

It makes me sad because Pokémon has a lot of potential for interesting characters and stories, but the people in charge of the anime are too happy making a repetitive series filled with, well, filler, instead of trying to have better writing and create something more engaging out of it... :|

being lazy like this is what allows them to keep making money with the least amount of effort possible. i'm pretty sure the Pokemon anime is just full-on coasting at this point, super sad to see :(

    The Owl House.

We watched a few eps and struggled to get into it.

My partner and I were both looking forward to it so much (it ticks every box for us) but we found it to be a boring by the numbers show, with unfunny humour.

I'm thinking about giving it another chance (maybe) but it will be by myself. I think my girl would rather watch paint dry than try it again.
