The worst part is that newer Maker versions have long since abandoned the idea of using Ruby as a scripting language. Meanwhile fangame creators are stuck using RMXP which at this point is just horrendously outdated. I know an indy developer who tried to create their own game in RMXP. At some point they stopped bothering and switched to Unity. I'm not saying that Unity is a great engine (it has so many issues), but at least it's better than RPG Maker in so many ways. Sure, you need to know your C# and whatever else they may have put in there, but at least it's a lot more flexible and optimized. RPG Maker is so unoptimized, it's not even funny. RM2k still best, though!
I agree that RPG Maker XP feels a bit "rigid", but I don't know enough about game design to tell if it's outdated or unoptimised ^^"

Also, if you want to mess with me don't try that using RPG Maker as a topic. I've spend a couple years in the community, so I know what's up. :P
I'm not messing with anyone, I just want to force you to write a post :P

One positive aspect of Essentials v19, is that now I won't feel guilty for not helping people, now that I don't know the current framework anymore! I'll be able to focus on my game.
