I don't I actually knew anyone that got an allowance in high school. We all either got summer jobs for money or just didn't do anything because no money. I guess that's what happens when you don't grow up with much money though, your parents can't afford to keep you sane in high school by giving you money.

I'd take summer jobs anytime. But my parents absolutely refuse me getting a job :/

I don't remember ever getting an allowance any time in my life XD I have a steady job, and I'm pretty content with my pay and stuff. I realy try to manage my cash and have it saved away for emergencies, and special events

I never really got an allowance, but if I was going shopping, my mom would give me money. Now, I realize the follies of my youth. I should've gotten a job when I was a lot younger u_u

I wanted a job earlier but a lot of times having a job when you're young is dependent on you either having money (which I didn't) or living in a place with good public transportation (which I didn't). Getting places 20 minutes away would take an hour and a half, and at that point I wouldn't have time to even do homework since my bus ride home was already an hour - dedicating 4 hours a night to travel, then adding a few for work, then adding homework would have been impossible.

I've tried getting a job, but they told me I have to come in on Saturday, talk to the manager, and do all this other crap that I can't even remember.

So no job for me until I graduate lol

But my parents give me $20 a month and $15 for mowing the lawn so I still have tons of money :p

Tons? How often do you mow the grass because I imagine at your age you're spending money like no tomorrow so that minimum of $35 is gone before you can blink twice.

Sounds like my boyfriend and I - my internship pays nearly $20 an hour, which is big bucks for me, and I have a lot of financial aid as well, so I have plenty of money to spend on whatever I might want, but I still hold out and feel bad if I spend more than 40 dollars in any one place or in a month. Meanwhile, he sends money all the time even though he was just told that he won't even get school loans to cover all his tuition and he'll need to look for outside loans, and he also doesn't have a job.

But hey, what anyone else does with their money does not matter to me in the least. He's good for me because he's good at convincing me that if I say I want a 5 dollar thing every day for a week, I should just get the 5 dollar thing because it's 5 dollars.

I suck at saving money. I tend to save about $50 and then I see something cool and that I MUST HAVE as well as unforseen expenses such as school and there goes my money :(

I'm being mindful this time though.

Most amount of money I've ever been able to save up is around $1,200, if I remember right. xD;; Spent it all under a new laptop. Old one became too much troublesome for me, so I really needed it. Generally, though, I'm just terrible when it comes to saving; as soon as I get my hands on some cash, one way or another, I always wind up spending them.

I probably have a good...10k squirreled away but I have to move soon and I need a car and I want to buy a Mac for programming purposes (which means I can't get an older version of one, gotta go all the way). So that's going to fade away quick.

From what I've heard/seen Macs are pretty expensive. You sure you can't do without one?

Like I said, programming purposes. It's very, very difficult to do iOS programming on a PC (involves getting shady Mac OS rip-offs) considering you need a newer OS to get the newer SDKs. That's also why I can't go the used route, because unless I get a really recent used one that won't even be that much less expensive it won't have the latest updates which includes the SDK.

I could at least get a Mac Mini which is the least expensive option, but I'm considering just getting a laptop for ease of use because I won't have much table space for desktops in my apartment and I plan on building a PC soonish as well.

I hate developing for Macintosh... it's like a backwards reworking of UNIX, which bothers me. :s

My favorite programming languages are PHP, Python, and C. C has a lot of age, experience, and loads of libraries to use with it, PHP is rather hard not to use in web development, and Python is almost a godsend for streamlined network-based programming. I enjoy Python about as much as Audy enjoys PHP. :P
