It's not really martial arts when half of the fight is either beam spam or just brute force clashing at each other. At this point, DBZ is just a cosmic scale bar fight.

During the tournament when it was time for Vegeta and Goku to face U6the majority of the matches actually required thought or tactics to defeat the enemy. VS Hit was especially brilliant in this bit, as it brought back Kaoiken and had both Goku and Hit operating at insanely high levels of speed to read their opponenets movements and practically alter between hits and defensive manouvers. Of course thst ended on a Kamehameha but eh, the majority was still not brute force. And the recent Trunks arc has Goku sparring with Zamasu, which has Goku paying attention to his fighting style. Not to mention Goku Black is almost a 1:1 copy of Goku,s own style, so he might actually have to change his movements to eventually overcome this threat.

The new Shounen Jump series combines To Love Ru with Monster Musume, somehow managing to fit every shitty harem trope into one first chapter.

It's genius, really.

They're seriously going to kill the genre.

First girl rule applies as per usual in that genre, then. (And unsurprisingly, seeing as she won in the pilot work, as well.) Could definitely have had a worse outcome.

Not sure there was a definitive one but a few of influential series that ended during the early 00s certainly did it. Some with more drama than they probably needed (I'm looking at you Ichigo 100%). Tenchi Muyo is quite possibly the harem (as we know it) poster child, in it's main universe the first girl pretty much wins. I didn't read Love Hina but I believe that goes the same way too.

Love Hina is definitely guilty of it, and the previous series by the same author did it as well, iirc. It's possible the trend was done as a response to the response to Urusei Yatsura. Many of the authors who originally pulled the trope may have not liked the way it ended and subsequent authors are following the example of their predecessors because it apparently sells.

Urusei Yatsura ended that way because of how popular Lum was, Takahashi actually wanted a Shinobu end. Lum is certainly the odd one out in all of her endgame couples.

In the current age of Light Novels it seems the main grill wins because she's the one that's been written to target the biggest group, other grills are there for niche groups. Gotta print those yens.

I wonder who'll win the To-rub-owl. Would probably get shortest odds on Nana (original main girl's sister for any of you losers that don't read the most interesting manga) or harem end. 2 main grills from the jump series got pushed aside with the new Jump SQ serialisation, that can't have happened many times.
