when i get the king promoted in checkers i just move it back and fourth like a degenerate.

lmao yeah i've never done that so i can't relate. have you ever experienced having 3 or more pieces captured consecutively?

That's exactly what happened when i turned on checkers vs a bot last week.

I just closed the game right off.

I feel like with chess there's just much more control over the board.

there's just much more variation with as to how the pieces move really. i feel more free to move around in chess and can plan better for some reason.

for something amusing, you can go on lichess and turn the bot up to 3,000 elo.

it turns into "don't win. survive".

will definitely give that a try lmao. wouldn't a grandmaster find a way to beat it tho?

Shockingly, nope. Grandmasters can hardly even get a draw with it. Magnus is 2875 ELO, but when you get that high even a tiny amount makes a world of difference.

damn i underestimate just how strong these chess bots are nowadays. i remember the days of Deep Blue where it was an achievement to beat Kasparov once out of like 5 tries.

I believe Kasparov returned for a tournament against modern high level players in 2017. He placed 8th out of 10th. In 2016 he beat 15 players at once.

Not bad for someone who's been retired for over a decade.

Oh, and a fun fact you might know. Magnus did play Kasparov when Magnus was only 13 years old. Magnus was up material, but kasparov saved it with a draw.

ooh i haven't heard of this guy yet. nice to see someone linking something other than Gothamchess huehue. i'll perhaps give him a look later on.

I actually prefer him much more than gothamchess.

He's an IM rated around 2300, but he explains in a way everybody can understand, and takes players of all levels seriously. If he gets matched with a 500 ELO player, he takes them with the same attitude as a 2,000 rated player. He usually doesn't end games early, so he can explain things fully.

I'm not too educated in checkers and chess and stuff like that, though it reminds me how my boyfriend's recently been learning mahjong and shogi and how I've got no clue what's going on there, but it seems like he's enjoying it.
