The thread is lagging so much! Or maybe is it me getting asleep, I can't tell...

Schools charge tuition too though.... =p

I will defend that chocolate to the death Starlight!
And take a percentage of it.

School is overrated. All they teach you nowadays is how to be a mindless worker drone.
If school was meant to make us smart and rational and critical, then how will we become consumers?

Schools are supposed to train people to seek out knowledge. But that doesn't really happen.
This is a relevant point!

It's a complicated mess if you try looking up the causes (but it involves capitalism).
There you lost me, I don't understand what you mean XD

To me, school is not teaching you life or a job, it's teaching you to be a citizen of your country. That's why when people tell me that mathematics aren't useful in your every day life, I reply: "is there any useful class at school?"

Do you know what PISA is? It's a standardized test that was at least used to gauge how different kids in different countries compare to each other. I can't speak for other countries but I do know that my country was usually very bad at it. Schools were simply not equipped to teach properly. The state wasn't well equipped to handle the consequences, either. So what did they do? They gave it to someone else. And if you give it to someone whose modus operandi is for profit then you can easily imagine where that leads.

Afaik the US has a similar issue where private schools are simply better than public ones. So that doesn't really bode well for most of those who attend a public one.

Unfortunately, this is something you have to learn in the field.

Yeah my country is also very bad at this kind of tests.
What you say is strange though, because in my country, education in your country is often seen as infinitely better than ours (less hours at school, more time for sports, more time for languages, that could be why your English is better than mine :P).

I don't know about school policies in your country, so I can't really compare. I've also been out of school for a long time at this point.
But I can assure you that my English skills did not come from school. Most of it comes from playing video games and watching Youtube videos. Like, there was literally a 5+ year gap in my life where I did nothing but isolate myself from society and spend all day watching Let's Plays on Youtube. (It's also why the isolation part of the pandemic doesn't really affect me as much. It's literally not the worst isolation experience I had in life xD)
