Last One to Post Wins! v4

Idk I really like history. I've always loved learning about it. From the beginnings of civilisation, passing through the medieval ages, to the wars and conflicts that countries went through and that some are going through to this day, I've always found it such an interesting subject to obsess over. Except when the teachers forced me to memorize story bits and dates and names to use them in one test and then never again, saying that "IT'S IMPORTANT!!!" (It wasn't)

The next subject I'm going to learn about in History class now is about the Empires in medieval Africa. I've never learnt anything about African history, other than, you know, colonisation and slavery and stuff, and that kinda sucks. Plenty of people (myself, for the longest time, included) get such a wrong and generalised vision of the continent as a whole because of this, I believe. I always say that, when you don't learn about a subject, it's easier for you to fall for misconceptions and misinformation about it, so I think this is gonna be good for me. Plus, I'm actually very interested to know about the history of the African countries individually, so I'm definitely excited for that!

We studied about our colonial era, French Revolution, world war, history of dressing/fashion, fight for independence, history of printing, bits and pieces from local history, etc.

But the most famous chapter was the last chapter, which amused interest in entire class. It was History Of Cricket !! Entire class enjoyed that chapter.

I liked history as a subject, but feel like school usually goes about it wrong. Imo what's important is the historical events themselves, so that people don't forget about them and hopefully don't repeat them (they usually still do in some manner or fashion though... anyway...).
What does school do though? "Here's a bunch of location names and historical dates and names of people important to it and you need to memorize them all for the test!" Ugh.

There was definitely a bias towards European history here, with some American and South East Asian history sprinkled in (the latter due to a former Dutch colony there; which had like 90% of the attention there xD). I don't really recall anything about Africa per se, but there might've been and I've just forgotten :sadwick:

Any class in school can be made better or worse depending on the teacher imo
There was this one history teacher who was just so dang boring to listen to... and I remember a Math teacher that just never really managed to properly explain things and just kinda went through the motions.

Totally agree with this. The first impressions of a teacher can really make a difference in a student's perspective on a subject, especially if said student is a child. I've had this history teacher for the longest time that, while being a bit more easy-going and laid-back than my other teachers, had such boring classes, that mostly consisted of just copying what he wrote on the board. But in the school I am now, the teachers have just been so nice and history classes so much more fun, engaging and so much clearer to understand!

I do want to say something looking at the discussions happened before me, but won't because I am anticipating something, hence it is sometimes better to wait, rather than proceed, depending on the circumstances.

Has anyone here played the Art Academy games? They always seemed neat to me but I've never heard anyone talk about them. Besides a let's play of Pokemon Art Academy I watched years ago I completely forgot about it until now.

Look at this amazing art :

This is the sand art which not made by human. Rather, one can only find this art at the base of Ocean. And this kind of sand art are made by Pufferfish. They are only sized around 10cm, but they make the patterns over 2m in size. And since the ocean current is always moving, and there are some other deep sea creatures, hence these marvelous patterns are broken. But the Pufferfish keeps building it again and again, without losing enthusiasm. It is such an intriguing art that some sort of algorithm is also based on it, as much as I can remember.

These kind of natural beauty can't be imitated by any games, though.

But the effort of Pufferfish does teaches us about being persistent without losing our enthusiasm.

I used to be super into sea creatures when I was younger, I remember doing a research project on them in elementary school, and I'd sit in class watching videos of them. I eventually grew out of that but I still think it's neat that there's who knows what down there and there's so much in the ocean we still don't know about. Plus some of the creatures we do know of like octopi are really interesting.
