I'm thinking we won't be visiting a second region, but if there were to be one then I'd say Kalos. It seems to have the closest connections to Alola with the presence of Mega Evolution, Zygarde cells, and the arrival of Dexio and Sina. They could easily throw in an excuse to sail over to Kalos for any of those three reasons I guess. Though, I wouldn't say any of those confirm revisiting Kalos at this stage. I think if we are going to be visting a second region, it wouldn't be revealed until somebody discovers it in-game? Either that or a reveal trailer right before the release as a final push for sales.
 
But then the same could be said for GSC. Those games revisited Kanto three years after the release of Red & Blue. I highly doubt we will go back to Kalos, but if the storylines are connected and S/M are in fact sequels of XY in a roundabout way, then I could see reasons why we would return.

Actually, it's Red & GREEN (& Blue since all three came out in 1996 while GS came out in 1999 in Japan. The western gap was even less than 3 years).

Anyways, I wonder if a certain scene in Pokemon Generations EP 1 is hinting at us encountering Perfect Zygarde in a cavern in SM, one that could be Terminous Cave.

Eh, I wouldn't completely rule it out just yet. I'm not saying I firmly believe we will, on the contrary, I don't think that we will be going back to Kalos. What I'm saying is from what we've seen so far, it wouldn't be hard for them to find a reason to go back there. We still don't know the full plot just yet which is why something could come up that connects the two. Yeah, it's unlikely, but it wouldn't be implausible, especially since it has been done before.
 
I really don't think we're going back to a previous region anymore, I had hope before, but I'd much rather they focus on making Alola the best it can be.

However there are possibilites. The biggest possibility to me is Kalos, because the region just seemed unfinished and there were a lot of mysteries to be solved there, but I feel like those were saved for a Pokemon Z which eventually got scrapped. I used to really want them to be solved but at this point I just don't care enough. Some XY characters can cameo if they want, but I'd rather move on.
Second most likely is Kanto because there's so much Gen 1 pandering this generation I wouldn't be surprised. While I wouldn't be 100% against it, I still don't think it should happen. It would take away from the special part of GSC. Next is Unova, because if we're assuming the geography in the Pokemon world is similar to ours, Unova and Alola shouldn't be that far away, and there are boats all around Alola like the ones around Unova. Also because I really really want a reason to return to the PWT.
 
I doubt that we return to another reason, but Kalos makes the most sense.

There's zygarde, the fact that Malva is technically still evil in the games, the ghost girl, the train incident, and more that could be built upon, such as AZ and Looker/Emma's stories,and the possible catacombs beneath Luminous.

From the ORAS perspective, we have Looker again, could get more AZ stuff, Zinnia storylines, and a more emerald like feel to Hoenn.

In theory all of the storylines listed above could be touched upon in Sun and Moon, or even if Kalos. Plus it gives Kalos the more fleshed out atmosphere it should have had to begin.

Granted that doesn't mean it will happen, but those are the general ideals behind reasoning for going back to Kalos.

They probably didn't do a Z version because of how third games typically sell less in comparison to duel released games.

Actually, Hawaii is closer to Kyushu (Hoenn) than it is to New York City (Unova).

However, Masuda said that we shouldn't compare the Pokemon World to the real world. Is is possible that Kalos and Unova are fairly close together and that Alola is south of them. I made a map a while ago that I really loved. The lines almost matched perfectly with Kalos and Unova being close together.

The called Alola the Southern Island I believe in a Corocoro or 2 corocoros ago. Which makes me think it is south of some regions. It is also possibly that Alola could be the connector between The first 4 regions and Unova.
 
Some places are doing midnight releases, I'd love to try one of those. Shame we have to wait five days, though. Pretty sure a lot of people will have finished the games by that time. Then again, the demo might just spoil everything a month before the release anyway lmao.
 
That's true. We're basically talking the size of ORAS & XY combined.. that's crazy! Music doesn't take up much, and we already know S/M has fewer soundtracks than XY did. New Pokemon and overworlds probably won't be the main reason for the huge increase, they will take up a considerable amount, but not to the extent of 3.2GB. Something else must behind the need for an extra 2GB of space.

The games aren't even out yet and you're making judgements on how relevant Kalos is to the plot of Alola?

If this was Gold and Silver coming out you'd be saying the exact same thing about Johto's link to Kanto. You just can't know at this point. We know that Zygarde is linked to Alola, but we don't know why. There is most likely a lot more story expanding on that. We also have Z-moves, which are linked to Z (Zygarde?) for unknown reasons.
 
As for the increased file size my guess is there will be a lot of cutscenes which would add to the file size of the game.

Johto and Kanto are directly next to each other in-game, but the Japanese regions they are based on, Kansai and Kantou respectively, are separated by the Chuubu region in reality. The regions aren't inherently going to align with their real-world location counterparts; Unova could have been placed next to Sinnoh on a whim had the designers chose to do so.

Alola already has connections with other regions what with them bringing over Yungoos from somewhere else to deal with their rat infestation, so it may not necessarily be far away from or close to any specific region just because it's based on Hawaii.

You didn't speculate though. As soon as anyone even drew a link to G/S's inclusion of Kanto you called it 'apples and orages'. Completely dismissing the notion isn't speculation, it's the opposite. It's shutting down another person's actual speculation. You didn't say "I kind of doubt that", you outright said that there was no comparison. Which is kind of unfair since you have no way of knowing that yet, and as you said, this thread is just for speculation. If somebody wanted to post a well thought out, highly supported theory in favour of Kalos being a postgame region, they'd make a new thread.

But to be clear, there are major links between Kalos and Alola. We've known this for a long time. Let me lay them out:
  1. Zygarde, a generation 6 legendary, is confirmed to be a major part of the storyline.
  2. Magearna, a generation 7 legendary, comes from Kalos.
  3. Lillie is clearly not from Alola. Most likely, she is from Kalos, both because of her clothes, and her name, which fits Kalos' heavy flower theme and draws parallels to Lysandre's Japanese name, which is literally lily flower.
  4. Sun and Moon, thematically, holds a lot of links to G/S/C, whereas X and Y was a painfully obvious homage to Generation 1 in so many ways.
  5. Yes, I know this is getting into conspiracy territory now, but Magearna has a SOULHEART.
  6. Kalos has a gigantic sundial, and moondials are also mentioned.
  7. Maybe the evidence is getting kinda weak now, but Sun and Moon are pretty big files.

At this point some link to Kalos is all but confirmed. This is more links than we've seen in previous games, Kalos is 100% of some relevance. Whether we do get a postgame region has yet to be seen, but it certainly seems foolish to dismiss it, no?

I'm guessing through hacks, but thankfully it looks like the 3DS will soft-brick anyone who tries to download it early.

I'm still hoping that GameFreak just deleted the files, or replaced everything else with "Lol no spoilers for you."
