In the past, fossil Pokémon have been based on prehistoric figures. Based on what we currently know about the Alola region, are there any particular ones you'd like to see? How about design wise? Would you like to see a continuation of the typical Rock-types with a secondary typing? Or maybe a whole new combination of types.

I would love some new fossil Pokemon. If any region were to introduce them then I'd expect it to be Alola. We did get two from Kalos which makes me think they could skip a generation as they have in the past, but it would be great to get a couple more!

Something I would like them to do is steer away from the Rock-typing as a base type for fossils. I know it seems pretty logical for fossil Pokemon to have this typing, but I think there could be so much more potential for fossil Pokemon outside the rock typing.

As Angie said, I'd love to see more unique typing for the fossils. I'm thinking about possible new types and I feel a Rock/Electric or Rock/Fighting would make for a fresh type idea that could work on a new fossil Pokemon.

Rock/Ghost, Rock/Electric, Rock/Normal and Rock/Poison are the only ones never used.

I could see Rock/Normal to be some Prehistoric Bears or other Pokemon that you would normally see Normal type. Rock/Electric could be a Prehistoric Pika clone critter.

The ancestor of the Pika clones :D.

We haven't had a generation with no new fossil Pokemon since Gen II, but I feel that we might get our second. Irc the Kalosian and Unovan fossils were already unveiled around this time. Plus there were rumors of no new fossil Pokemon, irc.

I think this generation having no new fossil Pokemon might also have something to do with Hawaiian lore and that it never had much of a presence in the prehistoric ages. Worth mentioning when we consider how much Hawaiian lore is focused on in Alola.

I'm curious what they would do with fossils because Hawaii is largely volcanic rock so theres very few fossils in that type of stone.

Hawaii is made of cooled lava since all the islands are formed by an active volcano, the old islands got eaten up over time since the tectonic plate it's on get under the continent because it's heavier.

Gen 2 didn't got fossils but I can see Tyrannitar line to be some kind of fossil reference being Rock/Dark and feeling a bit more Prehistoric. Also Terracosta original design was supposed to be a fossil with Tyrannitar.

I actually had a weird thought for a Rock/Ghost fossil Pokemon a while ago.

The idea was that a ghost possessed an inactive fossil and then when you bring the fossil back to life the prehistoric Pokemon has a sort of "link" with the Ghost Pokemon that previously had possessed the fossil. They could have a sort of symbiotic relationship.

Do you think that could work or is it too complicated?

I've always wanted to see a sabertooth tiger fossil Pokémon but I don't think Alola is the right region for that to happen :P Would be cool to see a part-Ground-type fossil though instead of a Rock-type - the Aurorus line for example, I don't see why it was a Rock-type apart from the fact that you get it from a fossil. Nothing else about it is Rock-like.

We already got our sauropod and T-rex Pokemon last game. If Game Freak is doing dinosaurs as fossils again, I'd like to see stegosaurus and velociraptor. If not, a sabre-toothed tiger or a dire wolf would be neat.

I want a spinosaurus (It could kind of work, they were mostly aquatic, right?), other than that I'm good with whatever.

Actually, now that I think of it, an ichthyosaur or something is more likely, and I doubt we'd get two rock/water types again. I'm probably never going to get a spino pokemon.

Doesn't Aurorus have gems lining the side of it's body? o.o

Also, as much as I am pro-change when it comes to whether things should be shaken up or not in the Pokemon series, I do like the idea of fossil Pokemon staying part-rock type. But this bias stems from the fact that the only rock-types I've ever liked using were all from fossils. :P

That being said, I'd like them to continue making fossil Pokemon so long as they continue to flow with good ideas (I like the Kalos fossil pokemon). DO i think they will have them this time around? I'm leaning towards that they will, but the fact that nothing has been said about them does have me thinking they may actually skip this gen. :'(

I wouldn't mind seeing some old fossils returning with different typing. Alola form fossils like maybe an Omanyte that's Dark/Water or something.

But new fossils would be welcome by me. I would be okay with something different but mostly similar to fossils, too.

There's a noticeable pattern where we get dinosaur fossils every even-numbered gen (minus Gen II) and we get non-dinosaur fossils every odd-numbered gen. So I'm expecting Gen VII's fossilmons to be based on prehistoric organisms that aren't dinosaurs. There's also a pattern where one fossil is a sweeper and the other being a tank.

Oh I never even noticed this!

I read a post in one of the other threads about a (most likely fake) leak that mentioned a fossil based on a fern. I think it would be interesting to have a plant-based fossil since the closest we've had to that is Lileep (which I literally just learnt is based on a crinoid/sea lily, an animal which was thought to be extinct).

Two times hardly establishes a pattern.

Remember how everyone was saying we'd get get a dragon eevee in X and Y because every even numbered generation gave us 2 new eevees before?

People said the same thing about Jigglypuff before Smash 4's release, since it came back to the roster two times back then.

We still get the pattern of new Eeveelutions every even-number gen though, so a dragon Eevee would eventually be introduced in Gen VIII.
