Magical Backpacks! ~ Best One?

Of course, in all of the main pokemon games, the protagonist gets a handy dandy bag to hold all your possessions in. Below, you can see the various bags that each protagonist had!

Personally my favorite magical backpack was BW2's, since it had the free space pocket where you could place anything you wanted with just a few simple button presses - TMs, healing items, held items, whatever you wanted. Not only that, but you could register the menus to Select and have easy access to them as well.

I didn't like it as much in XY because they removed the ability to simply scroll with the stylus, so there I always had to set it by alphabetical order. However, it was nice that you could teach your Pokémon TMs from the team menu.

My fave hammerspace bags are BW2's and XY's. As Stargazer mentioned, BW2's had the Free Space pocket, allowing you to keep all the items you frequently used together. I also liked how, if you ran out of an item, upon reacquiring it it'd go back to the Free Space bag rather than to its original designated slot. As for XY's, though I disliked the removal of the Free Space pocket, I still found it relatively easy to go through it compared to previous bags. Plus, you could alter the placement of the pockets, which I thought was pretty neat.

For some reason I never noticed the free space pocket in bw2?

I'm pretty sure I liked Hoenn's bag the most. It had the most organization I prefer. The only thing I would add is a separate medicine slot. The mail and battle items slots are pointless for me. Also just want to add that I hate how the XY bag doesn't have a separate poke ball slot.

If I had to pick a bag for the look I'd say the male bag from RSE or the female bag from Fr/Lg

My favourite bag was probably the one from Generation II as it gave us pockets for the first time to divide everything up :) I also liked the way in Gen 3 with RSE they had a picture of the bags and showed that there was a difference between the male and female ones :)


If I had a trainer's bag like one of the protagonists... hmm I like the style of Lyra's and I think May's looks good on her but I think I'd choose Hilda's one as I'm a fan of that style where the strap goes over the opposite shoulder of where the bag rests on the body :) I know Leaf's does as well but I like that Hilda's sits a little higher :)

I like the B/W2 bag because of the extremely useful Free Space section. It made getting to important or frequently used items such as Max Repels really easy to get to, removing the hassle of having to scroll all the way down your main items slot. I also like the DP/HGSS bag because it had sections you can go through via the touch pad on the DS, making things easier. If I had to wear one of the bags the protagonists had, I'd probably use the D/P/Pt or B/W2 bag that the female protagonist has. It's just...stylish.

 

[Hiatus]

I actually like the backpack from Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. To me, it seems quite simple in design, and in reality, I'm sure it'd be a lot easy to carry. In terms of mechanics, it does have limitations, which suck. FireRed and LeafGreen one isn't too bad, either, but it's just a little bulky. Second favorite are fifth generation ones; theirs limits are much less, and designs are simply great. As for third, I'd say gen four.

My fave bag system was the one from Black 2 & White 2, with the cool Free Space feature which was kinda baffling that it was removed in X & Y. Design wise, my fave bags were those of 5th Gen, I liked how modern they looked.

My favorite would be gen 3's. It just worked in my oddly-organized head for me XD It also was the least "purse" like, which is hard to see being really a Pokemon trainer's bag. :P
With male characters, I never play as them except in 1st gen so I have no opinions to state there :<
