Meta Journey v.4 - Hard Mode!

So, after learning the hard lesson that just because Grass > Rock you can't just go around trying to bite rocks, I'll be spending some time looking for what kind of toothpaste is good for Carnivine.

In the meantime, I think I should have my Nidoran train against a wild Pokémon.

Nidoran: "Niii!" *waves paws asking for screentime*

After the pleasant evolutionary surprise, you let Pupitar rest and walk along with Lotad. Suddenly, you encounter a wild... Eevee! After an intense battle, Eevee is successfully captured!

Eagerly, you head out, with your Beedrill by your side. You soon encounter a wild... Wurmple! It is a surprisingly rough fight, as the nimble worm is quicker than you expected. But in the end, you successfully capture it in a pokéball and add it to your crew.



Since both Wurmple and Beedrill deserve a rest after that, but you are still pumped up, you continue with Hitmonlee by your side. You are suddenly attacked by a wild Scatterbug (are you a bug catcher??). It is a fair fight, as kicks don't seem to do much against the durable little creature.... However, in the end you triumph. Congratulations, MORE BUGS!

Nidoran deserves screentime and gets it by battling a wild... Absol, oh my.

That was a bit too hard for the poor pinkboye. Perhaps you should start with something easier, such as... a small worm-like bug? There, there, Nidoran. You can't win every day.

Hey, it did end up being almost an Absolute disaster, hah.

Fortunately my Nidoran seems to not have much of his high spirits and has been pestering some worm-like Bug types in the meantime.

Nidoran: "Niii!"

Apparently he is also bored of being a generic mon™ and now wants to have a name.

While I give that idea a spin, why not give Nidoran a spin too? I have 2 Fic Feedback posts that say we'd like for him to encounter a wild mon to fight.

Unfortunately, Nidoran males seem to mean bad luck in this thread. You and Floatzel encounter one with a poison sting that Floatzel can't stand...

The Nidoran, whom shall soon no longer only be referred to by his species name, steps right into the jaws of a feisty Trapinch! It seems Nidoran is too scared to keep fighting after almost having lost its leg...



... but unwilling to disappoint you again, it regains its focus and sends the wild Trapinch spiraling! Just far enough that you can still reach it with a pokéball. Congratulations!

About a good thing because that means more friends for my Nidoran who shall soon be Named™.

In the meantime, I think it's a good idea to send out the new catch to train. So while Nidoran and I argue syllables, I'd like for Trapinch

You and Trapinch carefully get to know each other. It's not always easy; Trapinch seems to interact mostly by biting. However, thanks to your immense patience and very tough extra gloves, you have soon befriended the pokémon which you aptly name Good Boi.

One day, you traverse a route with a particularly rocky landscape. Suddenly, from behind a particularly rocky rock leaps a blue creature, poised for attack!



It is a wild Riolu!​

You test the waters of the new bond between yourself and Good Boi, but ultimately the Riolu manages to outwit and evade the jaws of your pokémon. Leaving Good Boi in a sorry state, the Riolu blows raspberries at you before it takes off behind the particularly rocky rock again. Good Boi might need some careful attention now to not feel like shit over this humiliating defeat.
