I don't know if this is any help to anyone, but I found a picture of a Missingno.{not sure which one, since I heard there are multiple Missingno.s}and on the backsprite, I saw a figure, kind of like a Mudkip.

I highlighted the shape I saw with dark purple.

After that I deleted all the other color and got this.

After that I changed it to black and gray to make it easier to work with.

I deleted all the weird floating pixels and got this.

Finally, after cleaning it up a bit, I got this shape.

Some of the floating pixels might have been part of a tail, but I'm not sure.

I found an odd Missingno. in Platinum! WTF? It is shiny, a white screen and it gave me an Egg when I caught it! I hatched it and I got Missingno., level 1, Water Gun, Sky Attack, Water Gun, Struggle. Had massive attack and no defense. It was an odd glitch that happened and after it hatched, the game's palettes changed. I released it later and everything was back to normal. I don't even know how'd I get it!

That's one of the rumors. I guess that if it was true flying type was supposed to be bird type. But I guess they ditched that idea.

Missingno once erased my entire game when i caught it. I had 3 pokemon away from catching all 150. I was quite frustrated.

How was Missingno. discovered?
In the first beta (until Viridian Forest), Nintendo staff were testing it. At that time, they noticed all wild pokemon were odd glitches. They fixed that problem, but the game had Missingno. and they actually named it to keep the game running, and not freezing. They decided that Missingno. should be appearing when the trainer changes (Old Man, anyone?) and then when people go to a place where there are supposed to pokemon, the trainer fixes and no Missingno.. However, there was a flaw in the plan. Somebody left the right side of Cinnibar Island without pokemon, but a surfing area, placing Missingno. there!

How did Missingno. get it's name?
Missingno.'s name came, because it's data was #000 and that's where the name came from. It's really straight-forward.

Did Missingno. appear in the US version?
Also, Missingno. was never found in the US version, but they still decided to name it that to keep the data from getting mixed up. It was only in the Japanese version when it was discovered, US version had nothing to do with it. US only found out that it's number is #000 and that's it.

What about Missingno.'s type?
The Normal/Bird type was an accident. Bird types were supposed to replace Flying types, but is Gyarados a Bird? It can't even Fly, but it's still a Flying type. Missingno. was never edited to be found and neither did it's type. Normal was type #1, so it's the first type there is. So, Normal was the first type existant, Bird was the normal Flying type.

How did Missingno. have these two types?
Okay... I know Normal is the first type in the game's data, but the Bird came from... Well, I don't realoly know why is it bird, but Missingno. is.

What about it's stats?
This is a real brain-buster, to which I can't really tell. I guess must have been random or something, I don't do it-detailed research, just Missingno.'s existence and anything else that shows up.

I caught a Missingno on my original Red game by talking to the Viridian Man and surfing on the coast of Cinnibar and all that stuff. It severly messed up my game, and whenever I tried to restart, a picture of Oak would pop up, the game would freeze, and random Pokemon cries would play...

Did this happen to anyone else?

I'm not really sure. I've seen Missingno. one time only, and that was when I was borrowing a friend's blue version to see if the rumor was true. I saw it, and quickly turned off the game to keep it from ruining the save file.

i put all the things i dis-agree with in red....
since missingo.'s caught moves are sky attack and water gun
which makes it a bird and it was infact not an accident,
what was an accident was the fact that missingno. was left in the game as it was supposed to be removed in later versions.
Missingo. was a test pokemon used for the battle script.
It really all comes down to hex numbers - the same as the mew glitch.
the first pokemon ever created was rydhon as its hex is something like: 0001 or something like that....
but there are many ''glitch pokemon'' that were left in R/B/Y
and the only way to activate them is using the hex numbers
which is why the ''ditto trick'' is so succesful in activing these ''glitch pokemon'' because it takes on the hex numbers of all the other pokemon..
