Welcome to Monthly Video Game Showdown #2! This month's theme is...Sidekicks! You didn't think the boss did all the work, did you? Nominee: Luigi.
    Whose Sidekick: Mario.
    Why: He wears green outfit.

We all know who this guy is, don't we? Well, at least most of us do, I'm sure. Luigi has been around from the very beginning of Mario series, and still is; he one of the most important characters out there, right behind Mario himself. Physically, he's much lighter than his brother, so he's able to run and perform other actions slightly faster. One other thing is, in some games, such as Super Mario 64, he's able to stay in air for a while when he jumps, which could be quite helpful at times. All-in-all, I'm a big fan, and would gladly like to nominate him.

    Nominee: Momiji
    Whose Sidekick: Ryu Hayabusa
Why: She gets to work with the Legendary Ninja of Gaming! ^^
    Spoiler:

Momiji isn't very known. Even though I think she appears in every Ninja Gaiden games but the SNES ones. She is Ryu's apprentice and Shrine Maiden. In-game, she's able to heal Ryu's arm in Ninja gaiden 3, double jump, and kick butt in DOA, so i'm nominating her.

    P.S. She's so pretty. ^^

    Nominee: Weighted Companion Cube Ellie
    Whose Sidekick: Joel
Why: She's very helpful to Joel throughout their journey across of post-apocalyptic America, and her personality is awesome.

    Spoiler:

Although she was raised in a world where standards and values have deteriorated, Ellie isn't nearly as jaded as Joel. She's also really enthusiastic about new things, and enjoys learning about the world before the infection began.
Playing as her in Winter was awesome, and it was probably my favorite part of the game.

    Nominee: The T Block
    Whose Sidekick: The I block
Why: Anyone who's ever played Tetris knows that the I block is where it's at. That's what you need to hit those 4 row clearing 'tetrises' that will make up the bulk of your score. However what a lot of people fail to consider is the relative strengths of the other blocks, the T in particular. This is the most versatile of the other blocks as along with the square, it's the only other block that is symmetrical. However unlike the square, it is able to be rotated, and therein lies it's utility as it can plug difficult 1 pixel gaps while making the overall structure flatter, and thus a better base to built upon until you get the holy grail which is the I block to make your tetris and up your score.
    Spoiler:

Here is who I will nominate

    Nominee: Repede
    Whose Sidekick: Yuri Lowell
Why: Repede is a very useful member of Brave Vesperia. He fights along side any of the party members. Plus in battle, he can actually steal items from enemies using the Thievery arte. Even though he is a dog, he fights using daggers.

If we are allowed to nominate another person, I would like to nominate:
    Lianshi

Who's Sidekick: Sun Shang Xiang from Dynasty Warriors

Why: 'Cause she's the Crossbow Wielding Master.

    Spoiler:

Lianshi is the iconic Crossbow Wielding Master of Dynasty Warriors.(And the only person that wields a Crossbow in that game.) She's the guard of Sun Quan and Sun Shang Xiang. Her Musou attack is shooting arrows at the opponent, that turns into water with damages the opponent(?)
Her 2nd Musou attack is shooting arrows into the air, making rain fall down, healing herself and damaging others a bit. She is so cool, and so protective of others, so i'll gladly nominate her. (If I can nominate once more. :) )

Man, I came into this thread fully prepared to nominate Ellie. :c I also would have nominated Clementine, but I think one badass little girl in a zombie apocalypse is probably enough.

    Nominee: Aiden
    Whose Sidekick: Jodie
Why: Aiden and Jodie make a pretty badass team. Being a spirit that only Jodie can communicate with, they share a special bond like none other, and Aiden is very protective of her. Not only does he have skills like telekinesis and possessing people, even though he doesn't have a physical body, he can shield Jodie from bullets and put her enemies in a chokehold (and also, as children, terrify the living hell out of her bullies).
Image: For the majority of the game, Aiden is really just an incorporeal blue glow "tethered" to Jodie:
    Spoiler:

So, the thing in the background. :)

If we are allowed to nominate another person, I would like to nominate:

For now, I'm going to only accept one nomination per person. I want to be fair for others that have not had a chance yet! Especially since slots are filling up fairly quickly and I intended for nominations to last until the 17th!

If all sixteen slots are filled before the 17th, I will be adjusting the dates for all subsequent portions of the Showdown! :)

Nominee: CL4P-TP General Purpose Robot (ClapTrap)

Whose Sidekick: The Player (Salvador, Zer0, Maya, Axton)

Why: He may be stupid and he may be weak, but he's one hilarious little wisecracking robot and he makes Borderlands 2 an even more enjoyable experience.

    Image:
    Spoiler:

Hope this isn't too much of a stretch...
    Nominee: Fawful
    Whose Sidekick: Cackletta
Why: First off, he has the capabilities to become the actual villain. In his first game, he is working as Cackletta's sidekick, but in Bowser's Inside Story, he himself is the main antagonist. He has great power.
Second, his language is hilarious. "I HAVE FURY!" "Your lives that I spit on are now but a caricature of a cartoon drawn by a kid who is stupid!"
Third, you can't help but love swirly glasses.
In all, Fawful is one of the coolest and funniest video game characters, so that has to put him on top of the sidekick charts.

    Nominee: Daxter
    Whose Sidekick: Jak
Why: What better sidekick than one that think's he's the hero? One might consider Jak as Daxter's sidekick rather than vice versa. But to his dismay, he is the sidekick here. And a funny one at that. Little guy's sassy. But he's also got heart. He was selfless in the first game in that he chose saving the world over returning to his human state. He shows his selflessness again in the third game by sticking with Jak after the tragedy at the end and together, they follow Veger to the center of the Earth. Jak and Daxter have a friendship that really can't be matched. Just play the games. You'll understand. :)

I'll have to get back to you on a picture. Internet is being a ho.

    Nominee: Midna
    Whose Sidekick: Link
Why: Who doesn't love a sidekick with a little bit of sass? Midna has a lot of depth to her - not only does she assist Link in traveling back and forth between the Twilight Realm and Hyrule, but she also wields powerful dark magic in which she can attack enemies as well move humongous objects. She also has the cunning to trick the acclaimed Hero into helping her reclaim her throne from Zant - the villain in Twilight Princess - something that you usually don't see sidekicks do, but adds personality and depth to her character as a whole. One could argue that Midna just used Link for her own selfish needs, but a bond was created between the two I believe later in the game that showed how extensive and effective their teamwork can work in the land of Hyrule. Midna shows that she will go to any lengths to bring peace back to her world - even if that means being a subordinate to a lone human.
    Image:
    Spoiler:

If you want a .jpg or .png of her, just let me know.

    Nominee(s): Bentley and Murray
    Whose Sidekick: Sly Cooper
Why: Because together they make the perfect team, and they are really useful, Bentley has a super brain and can ivent almost anything, and is a powerful computer hacker, Murray just beats the **** out of any bad guy that tries to interrupt the operation, and is the driver of the team, these two compliment prefectly the protagonist's thieving abilities.

Since there's been 3/4 of the slots taken, I would like to throw my own favorite sidekick into the fray!

    Nominee: Diddy Kong
Whose Sidekick: The King of Swing, Donkey Kong
Why: Diddy has not only been there for Donkey Kong since some of his earliest adventures, but when the big ape got himself kidnapped, Diddy set off on a journey to save him! If that doesn't show loyalty, I'm not sure what does. Diddy has tagged along on some of Donkey Kong's best adventures and continues to be his number one sidekick and buddy. They make a great team and even when things get tough, they still work together and compliment each other well.

This is also a reminder that there are only THREE slots remaining now! If you've wanted to nominate someone, better get to it quickly! I didn't expect the spots to fill up this fast, but hey: even better for the showdown! Thanks guys!

This was my second choice as greatest sidekick, I'm glad to see that someone finally nominated Mr. Diddy.

I've updated the nominations to the latest few postings. :) Only two spots remaining, so things are looking good! A lot of great sidekicks nominated so far, hope we get a couple last good ones to fill us up. :D
