    Curious about this.

    Do you buy music through a virtual shop like iTunes store, or do you buy the actual hard CD?

    Curious to see how many people here actually buy music legally, and if they prefer having the actual CD.

    I myself use both iTunes for single songs or albums I can't buy in actual CDs.
    I must say I've downloaded 'illegal' music before because some music I have you literally cannot buy it anywhere because they artist is either unsigned or they don't sell their music.
     
    I love CDs more because I love the little booklet or art that comes with it :33
     
    I prefer the CDs but making sure they don't get dusty or scratched is a pain D;
     
    I download all my music illegally. If I like a band, I can use the money saved to see them live.

    The sheer amount of music that I listen to means that I'd have to spend hundreds of pounds for all the CDs I want, and I don't really agree with the pricing of them and the fact that the actual musicians don't get that much of the profits made (I know quite a few of my favourite musicians actually share this view). So I support my favourite bands in other ways (buying merchandise and going to their concerts). I think it's crazy that people pay money just for data by using iTunes; if I was, for some obscure reason, totally against illegal downloading, then I would definitely buy the CD because I want to actually have a physical copy instead of handing over my money for computer data. At least then I actually own something.

    Although I might start buying vinyl in the future just because it would be cool to have a vinyl collection. But there's no way I can afford that right now.
     
    I usually don't even want the whole album, so I just buy select songs from iTunes. However, the iTunes Store won't work for me atm so I don't know what's up with that.
     
    I prefer the actual hard CD.
    It's a shame I can't buy some of the albums I like at the shops, since there aren't a lot of artists I can choose from. iTunes doesn't work for me. And I'm compelled to download songs illegally ..not really compelled, but yeah. Especially most of the random J-rock and J-pop; I can't find them, even if I scan the whole vicinity. As Vendak said, I support my bands in other ways if I can't buy their albums.
     
    Honestly, I have no preference. Whichever copy I can get my hands on first is the winner, usually. If I get gifted an iTunes store card, I'll buy songs with it. If I find a CD for cheaper than buying all the songs I like off of it, I'll get the CD. Getting the CD certainly makes putting the song on custom mixes and mp3 players much easier, though.
     
    I download my music illegally for exactly the same reasons as Vendak. I believe the profits should go directly to the band, and not into the record company owner's fat wallet.

    I do prefer to have a hard CD. The quality is far greater than downloading through torrents.

    If I do have some extra money lying around, I'll go out and buy hard CD versions of albums I downloaded, to reduce the guilt. Lol.
     
    I normally prefer actual CDs plus they're like my collection, too. xD
     
    I usually download music illegally and I have no guilt in doing so. Bands don't get much of the money made from CD sales, and CDs are way overpriced anyway, so I don't bother. In fact, there are numerous artists I know who don't mind people downloading their music at all. Don't use the "you're not supporting the artist" argument on me, because I go to live concerts and buy band t-shirts.

    I also have a vinyl collection (albeit not a very large one, currently there's only an Explosions album, a Sonic Youth double LP, a Babies 7" and two Vivian Girls 7"'s), and if I really like a band and I've got cash spare I'll buy them on vinyl. I actually had about 60 CDs that I gave away for free earlier this year simply because I know CDs are hardly going to be sold in a decade or two, whereas vinyl will still survive.
     
    I download music illegally, but I do buy CDs when I can afford them/if I can actually access them. I don't trust iTunes, and as such would never buy from their store.
     
    I don't really mind either way; if someone gave me a CD, then I'd be completely happy with it. However, I generally download songs illegally, I guess. I feel a bit bad, but at the same time, I'm not willing to spend $1 per song because I like having hundreds and hundreds of songs. I just can't afford all that, y'know? It's not worth it.

    Well, I don't necessarily buy all music legally off of iTunes but when I do it's actually better(as I don't feel guilty). I haven't even bothered to ask for a CD nor buy one for years actually I just much prefer my music to be on the computer and If I wanted to listen to it on the go I can burn a CD or take my iPod with me(rarely use it;lost somewhere). In all I prefer to download my music digital.
     
    I think I fall under neither. I never buy CDs and I don't buy off iTunes or download music illegally. I listen to music off websites like Playlist.com. I also use apps on my phone like Pandora Radio or Bing Music for when I'm out and dying to listen to something I like.

    I don't buy my own music because I refuse to spend the money for it and I don't download music illegally because my parents are beyond paranoid that the minute I download a song the police will bust through the door. So I've been forced to use websites and apps. I'm content though.
     
    I only buy CD's of artists that I consider some of my favorites... Beyonce, Lady GaGa, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Jeffree Star. Other artist I'll take to iTunes Plus...
