I cannot think of a reason my mother would deny me this tattoo. :V

In all seriousness, the things in the design have all been held to my heart, to where I've felt emotions of deep attachment to them at some point or another. Absolute worst case scenario, it could devolve into a cool Poké Ball logo and evidence that I dated a transgender girl (ROTC being already past). I hate to objectify and generalize our relationship like that now, though. D:

I've never understood why, when something means something to somebody, they feel the need to tattoo it on their body. What's the point? If something means that much to you, you shouldn't need to get it tattooed on your body.

It's kind of like when people get their childrens' names tattooed on them and when people ask why they're like "because i love 'em!" Like... nobody ever questioned that you love your children. Why go through the pain of a tattoo for something that has little to zero benefit?

For show.
 
I remember as a child getting those temporary tattoos they had in those machines. I had one on me for a week at most, but they also wash off more easily as time moves along.
 
One of my friends tried desperately to put one of those temporary tattoos on me, and my reaction was to practically knock them out XD
 
I want a reminder on my body of the things I value/valued before. It's something I can look back and reminisce on, conveniently on my body.

Also, those who can't take the pain need to man up. Plenty of people have had their breasts tattooed before, it's not hell. :P
 
Coincidentally I am the queen of snark as well. Which is why I have to specify my lack of snark.
 
I'm also pondering adding to it as I reach further milestones and accumulate more experiences in my life. Maybe it'll turn into a life story of sorts as I age. :p

Okay, putting aside the joking aspect of my comment...

A word is just a series of symbols that represent an idea. How is a few symbols representing a person any different than the Mercury symbol representing a person? Less embarrassing if/when you break up because no one else knows that it's a symbol of your love for someone you're not with?
 
You could always do the wimpy kid method:
Previous tattoo: "Lydia"
Edited tattoo: "I am not in love with Lydia any more"
Or the Simpsons method:
Just add an "N" in "x and x 4 ever"

Funny both, but they work... :P

Because a symbol has a connotation reserved for the wearer whereas text is openly interpretable by anyone and often has its meaning in plain sight. Like I also said, it can be worn as a mark of my past if things happen to shift south. I have no intentions to remove them regardless of outcome and I wouldn't be embarrassed a bit either.
