also, nah, there's no way Cantrell came up with 'grunge' in '93. pretty sure it was Mudhoney who coined the term? back in like '87? or Green River or something. I'm not too familiar with the genre (anymore) so I could be wrong about that, but it was definitely around way before '93, especially considering the year after that is when Cobain killed himself and grunge was most certainly a thing for almost the whole time he was making music.

Cantrell just said a friend made it up, and I could have the date wrong. '87 sounds better, but yeah. It wasn't really a thing until the media and people took it on, lol. Which is interesting.

oh, okay. I feel you. and it was definitely more of a lifestyle/fashion thing than it was an actual set of musical characteristics -- when you listen to something like Touch Me I'm Sick by Mudhoney from 1987(or '88, I don't remember) and then listen to Jeremy by Pearl Jam, it's two completely different things. Interesting Progression! only thing that really groups the two together is they both had long hair and wore flannel.
 
I don't get too bothered by mainstream nowadays, I think most of what there is now is quite radio friendly for casual listening.

But it is nice that we're branching into music discussion, since the C&M DCC is gone.

I think the reason why that thread died was because it took away from a lot of the other threads and you know that can be a bad thing if you take too much discussion that could have gone elsewhere.

Strange how TT's DCC manages to not do this, huh

I should think about the reasoning behind that.
 
honestly, I think it's just because the conversation here is sooo free-flowing and since the point of this forum is just to chat, having a thread that serves that purpose (especially for shit that doesn't deserve its own thread) is kinda necessary. moreover it's like...... you're not gonna find a thread that shifts from weather to music to The Inner Machinations Of PokeCommunity Staff so freely (or at all). isn't that N ice
 
The DCC in my section didn't take away from anything much. It just houses discussions that are too minuscule for their own threads 8)

Why no new thread? Isn't that thread like precambrian at this point or something?

Somehow, I feel like starting anew may not be the best decision either. I wonder what Zach's idea is? Maybe he's going for the high score or something.
 
Speaking of the DCC guys, I don't think we are going to hit the required number of posts here by the end of April D: That was such a cool prize too! Better get chatting ;D
